Chapter 39: Chapter 39: She’s the Bully

Without giving Shen Qingqing a chance to speak, Jiang Zhixun abruptly opened the door and left without looking back.

He was tall with long legs and quickly descended the stairs.

It was barely past four in the morning, not yet time for training.

Shen Qingqing still wanted to say a few more words to get Jiang Zhixun to agree to the divorce and submit the application as soon as possible.

She chased to the doorway, not even catching a glimpse of his silhouette.

The coat she was wearing slipped to the ground, leaving her chilled.

Only then did Shen Qingqing realize she was wearing a nightgown.

Luckily, her pants were fine but her arms were exposed to the air.

It seemed a bit odd.

Instinctively, she touched her chest, relieved to find her vest was still on.

Her anxious heart wouldn’t settle; she had been so drunk last night that she couldn’t have changed her clothes herself.

There were only two possibilities.

Either the front desk lady helped her change.

Or... it was Jiang Zhixun.

The latter Shen Qingqing found hard to believe, yet she inexplicably felt that Jiang Zhixun changing her clothes seemed more likely.

Otherwise, why would he be here at this hour?

It’s very likely he hadn’t left since last night!

Shen Qingqing hurriedly shut the door and picked up the coat from the floor.

Her heart was skipping abnormally, not out of embarrassment.

But from awkwardness.

In three years of marriage, the most intimate gesture between them was her willingly linking arms with Jiang Zhixun on the day they got their marriage certificate.

Having Jiang Zhixun help her change clothes was something she had never considered.

Glancing around, she saw the cashmere sweater that had been changed out was now washed.

A line was stretched across the room, connecting the window sill to the hat stand, where the cashmere sweater hung neatly.

It wasn’t hard to guess whose "handiwork" it was.

Staring at the washed clothes, Shen Qingqing spaced out for quite some time.

She didn’t know why Jiang Zhixun did these things nor did she want to delve into the reasons behind it.

There was only one matter left to discuss between them.

And that was divorce.

Besides that, she didn’t want to hear anything else.

She took a clean sweater from her suitcase and put it on, which warmed her body and gradually brought her rationality back.

She was certain the braised egg she ate last night had something wrong with it, but now the evidence was gone, making justice hard to pursue.

Sitting at the desk, Shen Qingqing was lost in thought.

Before coming to the Northwest, she considered that she might encounter trouble on the way, and that Jiang Zhixun might give her a hard time once she arrived.

After submitting the divorce application, she anticipated that perhaps her superiors would try to counsel her.

She imagined countless possibilities but never thought someone would disgust her like this.

First came the verbal mockery, followed by action.

The former was endured because of Zhou Xiaomei and Lin Zhidong, but the latter... she really couldn’t swallow this.

She might be good-tempered, but that didn’t mean she would let others bully her!

Having made up her mind, Shen Qingqing went to freshen up.

The thermos was filled with hot water, and the enamel basin held cold water, requiring only a little hot water to make it usable.

The cup for washing and drinking were also brimful.

He had washed her clothes and fetched her water; Shen Qingqing didn’t understand what Jiang Zhixun was up to.

Without thinking too much, she took out her washing supplies to brush her teeth, wash her face, comb her hair, and apply snow cream.

Then she spent some time writing and journaling.

By the time everything was done, an hour had already passed.

Shen Qingqing took the leftover steamed buns from the night before downstairs to have the front desk lady warm them up.

After staying at the guesthouse for a few days, Shen Qingqing was already familiar with Miss Li.

Seeing her, Miss Li smiled teasingly, "Maybe Captain Jiang will bring you food after training."

Jiang Zhixun hadn’t left the night before, which many knew.

They assumed the couple had reconciled.

Shen Qingqing pursed her lips and tentatively asked, "I felt unwell last night, he didn’t cause you any trouble, did he?"

Miss Li shook her head, "We wouldn’t have known you were sick if you hadn’t mentioned it. No wonder Captain Jiang went down early to wash clothes; he didn’t want you to touch cold water."

Thinking to herself, despite Captain Jiang seeming icy cold, he was unexpectedly considerate.

Supporting his wife by washing clothes before heading out for training—such men were truly rare.

The hand Shen Qingqing had in her coat pocket tightened; it was indeed as she suspected, Jiang Zhixun had stayed in the room all night.

Did he stay awake or catch some sleep?

There was only one bed in the room, and when she woke, it had been particularly warm...

Shen Qingqing quickly cut off her thoughts, not daring to think further.

Jiang Zhixun could have sat and rested or laid on the desk to nap.

He could overcome any tough environment; such minor inconveniences were nothing to him.

Shen Qingqing reconsidered; her pants remained on and she was properly dressed with undergarments, feeling no discomfort.

Even if he did sleep on the bed, their interaction has remained innocent, needless to dwell on it unnecessarily.

Pulling her scarf higher, Shen Qingqing discreetly exhaled a breath.

Regardless of whether she and Jiang Zhixun did anything, it wouldn’t change her decision.

An unhopeful marriage shouldn’t be forcibly sustained by matters like that.

After a few minutes at the front desk, Shen Qingqing received her warmed buns and returned to her room.

It was still a bit early to find Lin Fengmian, better to work for two hours first.

The call could then be made on the way.

Though chemistry with Jiang Zhixun had broken down, if Shi Yu wanted to pursue dating with Chen Shaojie, she would still help set them up.

Nowadays, romantic freedom is valued; she merely played matchmaker, whether it worked was up to them.

Her own love issues were a mess, giving reliable advice wasn’t feasible.

All the while nibbling her buns and reading.

Once she finished, she cleaned her hands then resumed translating, only work seemed to quieten Shen Qingqing’s mind.

Once engrossed, time flew quickly.

Two hours slipped by unnoticed, fleetingly.

Shen Qingqing put the book away and only then did she head out again, her destination the Lin Family’s communal apartment.

On the other side, Jiang Zhixun’s expression was grim, his aura coldly fierce.

Everyone else had finished training; he continued pushing himself harder.

Chen Shaojie and the others exchanged glances.

"What’s this about now?"

Cheng Jingliang didn’t know either, "He put the snow cream on my desk, probably had another row with Miss Shen."

Chen Shaojie was weary, "He didn’t return to the dorm last night; I thought they had patched things up."

"I thought the same,"

Cheng Jingliang sighed.

He hurried to catch up and asked Jiang Zhixun, "What did you do now to upset Miss Shen?"

Jiang Zhixun was simmering inside.

"Why don’t you ask what she did?"

"Miss Shen is good-tempered, she’s very considerate in her words and actions."

Jiang Zhixun gave him a long, thoughtful look, "So you’re saying I’m hot-tempered and inconsiderate?"

Cheng Jingliang could feel the tension in his scalp, "Talk business, stop distracting."

Jiang Zhixun snorted, "The one bullying is always her!"

She says marry, then it’s marry.

She says divorce, then it’s divorce.

So changeable; what does she even take marriage for?

Until Shen Qingqing gives up the idea of divorcing, he absolutely won’t see her again!

Whether she stays here or goes back to Beijing,

It’s neither here nor there to him!

Jiang Zhixun’s expression darkens further.

Maybe it was a mere illusion, but Cheng Jingliang sensed a hint of grievance.

"Talk things through, don’t make it more complicated."

Shen Qingqing’s every word always started and ended with divorce; Jiang Zhixun didn’t even catch a chance to discuss properly.

Growing increasingly restless.

He suddenly sped off running.

Cheng Jingliang reached out but in the end said to Chen Shaojie, "It’s okay, let him be."

Ultimately, whether the wife matters more or his own emotions matter more, he’ll have to sort it out.

Love matters, outsiders really shouldn’t interfere.
