After My Death, the Love-struck CEO Begs for Reconciliation-Chapter 22 - 23
The phone was vibrating frantically.
Julian Lancaster was feeling anxious and initially didn’t want to bother, but the unfamiliar number kept calling incessantly.
He answered, and after hearing the person’s words, his expression changed, and he rushed upstairs.
Caleb Crawford slipped in just after he left. Uncle Shaw happened to be awake, so Caleb showed him the USB drive he had brought.
"Do you think your good niece’s husband is anything decent? If he likes that kind of rubbish, I guess it’s a case of ’like uncle, like nephew’."
Uncle Shaw smashed the computer and told him to get out. But Caleb wouldn’t give up, and he exaggeratedly told Uncle Shaw about Serena Sullivan’s actions.
"You didn’t know, did you? Clara Everard, whom you treated like your own granddaughter, was used by those two as a stepping stone. Your good niece’s husband knew all about it too. If he’s such a villain, it’s because you, old fool, didn’t teach him well!"
The door was forced open from outside, and the crazed Caleb was thrown out by Julian Lancaster. Uncle Shaw squeezed his eyes shut, tears streaming from the corners, his chest heaving dramatically, and Julian quickly ran over to help calm him.
Uncle Shaw opened his eyes, pushed him away, his voice shaky.
"It’s me, it’s my blindness, I didn’t teach you well..."
Time seemed to stand still for a few seconds. Julian felt as if he was being bound tightly by an invisible rope, making it hard for him to breathe.
The heart monitor suddenly sounded an alarm.
At Valoria Fashion Week half a month later, Adrian Sinclair introduced me to the design directors of several top brands. After seeing my work, they exclaimed that I was an exceptional talent.
"I’m so happy today." I poured myself another drink, "Thank you, Mr. Sinclair, for bringing me here to broaden my horizons, seeing so many... so many big shots..."
Adrian Sinclair pressed down on my hand, "If you can’t drink anymore, don’t."
But I refused, saying, "I’m happy, so I’ll drink more. I’ll pour you another glass too."
Adrian Sinclair had no choice, just watching my slightly flushed cheeks, but he didn’t stop me from pouring him a drink.
"Oh, Adrian Sinclair..." After three rounds of drinks, I was already tipsy but still wanted to ask the question I had been pondering: "Why are you so good to me?"
Having lived this life again, I’ve seen through Julian Lancaster’s hypocrisy and was utterly disappointed in him, losing faith in all emotions. But it didn’t mean I had turned into a block of wood.
I’ve noticed Adrian Sinclair’s kindness towards me, yet I don’t understand why he is so good to me.
This aspect of the relationship has not been addressed by Adrian Sinclair. It’s as if he doesn’t want anything from me. I’m more inclined to believe he’s using me, but after thinking it over, I seem to have nothing worth utilizing.
I’m waiting for Adrian Sinclair’s reply.
However, he just looked at me, saying nothing.
This bar is not far from my home, and Adrian Sinclair helped me walk back. There was light rain when we arrived, but now it has stopped, and the ground is wet, making soft sounds as we step on it.
Downstairs, Adrian Sinclair found his phone left in the store, so he asked me to wait here. I looked at the puddles on the ground and reflected that I’ve been in Caelus for quite some time now.
Before I could utter any nostalgic drunken words, someone suddenly grabbed my wrist, instantly waking me up.
"Let’s talk."
It was Julian Lancaster.
The cold night wind cleared my head. I tried hard to break free from his grip but was pulled into an embrace.
"I’m sorry, I’m sorry..." The person in my arms trembled violently: "I was wrong, Clara Everard. I regret it. I’ve always loved you, and you love me too, don’t you? Come back with me, please... Caelus’ winter is too cold. Let’s go home, please? I promise I’ll always be good to you. Let’s get married. Didn’t we promise to get married?"
"I’ll punish Serena Sullivan. I won’t let you be sad anymore..."
