After Prison I Rushed into Marriage with a Comatose Tycoon-Chapter 104: Sorry, We Did Our Best
The door to the operating room was suddenly pushed open, and a nurse immediately walked out. "Who are you? This is an operating room. Who let you in?"
"I let her in."
The nurse was startled. "The Dean?"
The Dean nodded and led Eliza Sutton toward the operating table. "Doctor Wagner, stop for a moment. Please step aside. From now on, she will be in charge of the rescue."
"I’ve brought in a new doctor. She will be leading the resuscitation efforts."
"How is that possible?" Doctor Wagner was stunned. ’A life-or-death resuscitation is no time to be swapping doctors on a whim!’
The dean, however, had no intention of explaining. He just said to Eliza Sutton, "Please begin."
Eliza Sutton immediately walked over. "Report the patient’s condition."
One of the nurses assisting in the operation instinctively snapped into professional mode.
Doctor Wagner was frantic. "Dean, what are you thinking? Who is she? She looks so young, yet you’re handing her the most critical part of this operation. If anything happens to the patient, the hospital will be held responsible, and it will be a huge liability."
"You don’t need to worry about that. With her here, the patient couldn’t be in safer hands."
Doctor Wagner sneered. "Fine. Since the Dean has so much faith in this so-called doctor who just appeared out of thin air, have it your way. Whatever consequences follow will have nothing to do with me."
With that, Doctor Wagner turned to leave.
"You’re Doctor Wagner, correct? Please don’t leave just yet. I need your help."
Doctor Wagner said coldly, "Sorry, I can’t help you."
Doctor Wagner stopped just short of saying he wasn’t an idiot who’d get involved in this mess. He glanced at the dean and said, "Dean, that man is Shane Lockwood. He’s not just anybody. I don’t know where you dredged up this ’doctor,’ but letting her take over is no different from gambling with the patient’s life. If something goes wrong, never mind her—our entire hospital will face the consequences."
The dean frowned and was about to speak, but Eliza Sutton cut in. "Have you heard of Quillon Croft? He’s my master."
Doctor Wagner froze for a second before a look of fervent excitement washed over his face.
Quillon Croft.
’The grandmaster of medicine, Quillon Croft. Who hasn’t heard of him?’
"They say if the King of Hell calls for your soul at midnight, Quillon Croft can keep you alive till dawn. His reputation was legendary."
He rushed over, asking in disbelief, "You... you’re a disciple of Quillon Croft? The Quillon Croft?"
"Yes. And I doubt anyone would dare to throw my master’s name around recklessly." ’Unless they have a death wish.’
Eliza Sutton asked, "So, will you stay and help now?"
"Of course." Doctor Wagner stood respectfully by Eliza Sutton’s side.
Eliza Sutton took out a set of golden needles. They were thicker than the silver needles she normally used, and she inserted them into thirteen acupoints on Shane Lockwood’s body with lightning speed.
Doctor Wagner exclaimed, "The Ghost Gate Thirteen Needles!"
Eliza Sutton didn’t respond. Her expression only grew more focused as the golden needles moved in her hands with such agility they seemed to have a life of their own.
As Doctor Wagner watched, the look on his face grew even more reverent.
As Eliza Sutton continued her treatment, Shane Lockwood, who had been unconscious the entire time, slowly opened his eyes. He turned his head to look at her.
"You..."
His voice was dry and hoarse, grating like sandpaper on glass. Every syllable was a struggle.
"Go to sleep. Everything will be fine when you wake up."
Eliza Sutton’s voice was exceptionally gentle, yet it carried an unshakable confidence.
Shane Lockwood watched Eliza Sutton quietly. After a long moment, his eyes slowly closed.
The look on Eliza Sutton’s face grew even more resolute. "Prepare for surgery. Now."
Doctor Wagner was taken aback. "Ma’am, neither Mr. Lockwood nor his family authorized a surgical procedure. He’s too weak right now; he’s not fit for surgery."
Eliza Sutton said coolly, "He wasn’t fit for surgery before I arrived. Go and prepare."
When she saw that none of them moved, Eliza Sutton declared, "Whatever the consequences, I will take full responsibility! Now, prepare for surgery immediately!"
...
「Outside the operating room.」
Mrs. Lockwood had regained consciousness. She refused to rest in her hospital bed, stationing herself outside the operating room the moment she woke up.
The second branch of the family had also gotten the news, and Florence Young arrived with Fabian Lockwood in tow.
A far cry from her disheveled state when she’d been thrown out of the Lockwood Estate, she was now practically beaming with delight. But she had to feign a look of grief, which twisted her expression into a strange grimace.
Florence Young spoke up. "Sister-in-law, it’s been seven or eight hours. How come there’s still no word? I wonder if there was some sort of accident, and now the doctors don’t dare come out. Maybe they’re trying to figure out how to shirk responsibility!"
"Impossible! My son is a good man; heaven will watch over him. He’ll be perfectly fine!"
"Everyone hopes so, of course. But I heard that when Shane was brought in, he was vomiting blood like a fountain. If he really can’t be saved, you can’t blame the doctors. You have to blame Eliza Sutton. She was supposed to marry into the Lockwood Family to ward off misfortune, but instead, she ended up bringing on his death! We can’t let this go. Eliza Sutton must pay with her life." Florence Young’s tone was so certain, it was as if Shane Lockwood were already dead.
Hearing Florence Young relentlessly cursing her son, Mrs. Lockwood’s anger boiled over. She couldn’t hold back any longer. "Florence! You’re his aunt, for heaven’s sake! In all the years Shane has been head of the family, has he ever treated you unfairly? Now that he’s in trouble, not only do you not wish him well, but you’re running your mouth about him not making it and someone needing to ’pay with her life.’ Do you think that’s the least bit appropriate?"
"Oh, Sister-in-law, don’t be angry. You know how much I dote on Shane. I’m just not very good with words. I’ll stop talking, alright? I’ll just stand over here and pray that Shane makes it out alive. How’s that?"
Fabian Lockwood added, "Aunt, my mother is being so sincere. You should at least acknowledge her goodwill."
Mrs. Lockwood was so furious she nearly fainted.
’Sincere? Is that what they call sincere?’
The words had barely left Fabian Lockwood’s mouth when he felt a sudden gust of wind rush toward him.
Fabian Lockwood instinctively turned his head just in time to see Master Lockwood swinging a cane, striking him hard.
Fabian Lockwood jumped in shock. "Grandfather! When did you get here?"
"I got here just in time to hear you and your mother spouting your nonsense and cursing Shane to death!" Master Lockwood said, so enraged he couldn’t stop himself from raising his cane and striking at the pair again.
"Grandmother." Emmett Lockwood, who had arrived with Master Lockwood, immediately rushed to Mrs. Lockwood’s side to support her. "Grandmother, are you all right?"
"Yes. I’m fine." As Mrs. Lockwood said this, tears began to stream down her face uncontrollably. 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝙬𝙚𝓫𝒏𝓸𝓿𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝙤𝓶
By this time, Master Lockwood had already given Florence Young and Fabian Lockwood a sound thrashing.
He looked at the tear-streaked Mrs. Lockwood and said with a grim face, "What are you crying for? My eldest grandson is still holding on. Do you want to cry away all his good fortune? Stop crying."
Hearing this, Mrs. Lockwood immediately wiped away her tears. "You’re right. I won’t cry. My Shane is very fortunate. He will definitely be fine."
At these words, Florence Young couldn’t help but purse her lips, her eyes filled with scorn.
’Very fortunate?’
’How can a dead man be called fortunate? That’s hilarious.’
But since Master Lockwood had shown no mercy when he was hitting her just now, she didn’t dare let her true feelings show.
Just then, the door to the operating room opened.
Doctor Wagner walked out from inside.
Mrs. Lockwood rushed forward instantly and grabbed Doctor Wagner’s sleeve. "Doctor, how is my son?"
Doctor Wagner took off his mask, revealing an exhausted face. His eyes were filled with sorrow. "Mrs. Lockwood... I’m sorry. We did everything we could."
