After Prison I Rushed into Marriage with a Comatose Tycoon-Chapter 117: Shane Lockwood Isn’t Dead, He’s Alive Again
Master Lockwood’s expression darkened. He turned to his second son. "Is this your intention as well?"
"How dare you speak to Father like that," Lord Lockwood snapped at his wife before turning to his father with a placating tone. "Dad, it was one thing for you to favor Shane when he was alive, but he’s dead now, and Emmett is just a child. Rather than letting a side branch of the family take control, why not let Fabian have a try?"
Master Lockwood was deeply disappointed. "You think I showed favoritism?"
"And you didn’t?" Lord Lockwood’s emotions flared as he recalled years of grievances. "You favored my older brother since we were children. I was only two years younger than him, yet you only ever involved him in the Group’s affairs. You said it was the Lockwood family tradition to pass everything to the eldest son. Fine, I accepted that. What could I do? I was the younger brother. But after my brother died, I thought it was finally my turn. Instead, you passed the position to Shane.
"Fine. My nephew was a genius, so I, his uncle, stepped aside again for the good of the family. But now my ’dear’ nephew is dead, too. If you won’t give control of the family to my Fabian, are you going to give it to that little brat Emmett? Or does Emmett have to die, too, before you’ll finally give our branch of the family a proper look?"
Lord Lockwood’s expression turned vicious.
Master Lockwood flew into a rage, slapping Lord Lockwood across the face. "You bastard! Are you threatening me?"
The force of the blow snapped Lord Lockwood’s head to the side, and blood trickled from the corner of his mouth.
Lord Lockwood licked the wound, then suddenly laughed, his eyes filled with malice. "Dad, I’m just stating the facts. Of course, if you continue to be unable to make the right choice, then I’ll just have to make it for you." Lord Lockwood looked at Fabian and ordered, "Call the kidnappers. Tell them Master Lockwood wants to hear his great-grandson’s voice. Tell them to make him scream louder. And if a whipping doesn’t satisfy Master Lockwood, then perhaps cutting off one of Emmett’s fingers as a souvenir would be better."
"You dare!"
"Of course I dare." Lord Lockwood snatched the documents from Mrs. Lockwood’s hands, walked over to Master Lockwood, and grabbed his hand, trying to force him to press his thumbprint on them.
"Dad, just give in. It wouldn’t do to have to send another little one off at Shane’s funeral. I don’t mind, but I’m worried my sister-in-law wouldn’t be able to survive it."
Master Lockwood stared at Lord Lockwood’s hideous expression, unable to contain his rage any longer. "Are you not coming out? Are you waiting for an old man like me to send you a formal invitation?"
Lord Lockwood was confused. ’Who is Master Lockwood talking to?’ Just then, with a BANG, the door was thrown open. A figure rushed out and kicked him squarely in the shoulder.
Before Lord Lockwood could even react, he was kicked hard to the ground.
At that moment, Fabian Lockwood shrieked, "Eliza Sutton! Emmett Lockwood! What are you two doing here?"
Eliza Sutton smiled. "Take a guess."
Fabian had no interest in guessing. He was about to explode with rage.
Mrs. Lockwood couldn’t stop herself from pulling Emmett into her arms, crying out his name as if he were her own heart and soul.
Emmett let Mrs. Lockwood hold him and said softly, "Grandma, I’m back. Mom saved me."
Mrs. Lockwood froze, turning to look at Eliza Sutton with a very complicated expression.
Eliza didn’t notice Mrs. Lockwood’s gaze; she was busy shielding Master Lockwood behind her.
Lord Lockwood hadn’t expected this turn of events either, and his face turned ugly.
He scrambled up from the floor and glared viciously at Eliza. "Niece-in-law, I admit you have more brains than those canaries in gilded cages. But if you think you can protect Master Lockwood all by yourself, you’re living in a fantasy."
"Is that so? Then I’ll have to prove myself." Eliza made it clear she hated being underestimated. To prove her point, she violently slammed Lord Lockwood back to the ground.
Eliza looked down at Lord Lockwood and Fabian Lockwood, both lying on the floor, unable to get up. She asked with mock concern, "This time, do you still think I can’t protect him?"
Seeing Eliza’s expression, which clearly said, ’If you dare say no, I’ll beat you up again to prove my point,’ Fabian, who had suffered at her hands before, cowered a little. But Lord Lockwood, who had only recently returned, didn’t know any better.
However, considering his status, he wouldn’t waste more words on Eliza. He just looked at Master Lockwood and said, "Dad, are you really going to forsake our branch of the family for this widow and her orphan? Are you really going to stand by and watch the Lockwood Group be dominated by an outsider, rather than give Fabian a chance?"
"It’s not that I never gave you a chance, but your branch of the family is not suitable. Your hearts are too ruthless, too dark, too greedy. Putting you in charge would truly be the end of the Lockwood family. It’s only because you are my blood that I arranged a life of leisure and wealth for you."
"A life of leisure and wealth?" Lord Lockwood laughed coldly, as if he’d heard the funniest joke in the world. "Is your so-called ’life of leisure and wealth’ having me, his uncle, bow and scrape before a junior like Shane Lockwood? If so, then let me tell you—I don’t want it!"
Master Lockwood sighed and shook his head. "A man’s greed is like a snake trying to swallow an elephant."
Lord Lockwood was growing impatient. "Dad, just hurry up and sign. Otherwise, I can’t guarantee what I might do!"
"Second Uncle, do you really think that just by getting a signature today, the Lockwood Group will be yours? The moment Grandpa leaves this room and explains the situation in public, this share transfer agreement will be void. Everyone will know that Second Uncle kidnapped a child during his own nephew’s funeral and threatened his own father. A person like you is despised everywhere you go. You’ll be nothing but a rat in the sewer for everyone to revile. It’s truly not worth the risk."
Eliza might as well have said it outright: only a complete idiot would choose to do this.
"Shut your mouth! What right does a good-luck bride like you have to meddle in the Lockwood family’s affairs!"
"So what if I was a good-luck bride? At least I married in openly and honorably, unlike Second Uncle, who uses the main family branch’s tragedy to pull this kind of depraved stunt. No wonder Fabian is useless at everything except drinking, whoring, gambling, and chasing women. The apple really doesn’t fall far from the tree."
"Shut up! My son is the most outstanding child! How dare you slander him!"
"That must be praise from the guests outside." She sighed and said in a solemn, heartfelt tone, "Second Uncle, they’re just saying nice things because the Lockwood family still has some power, and you actually believe them. You’re so old, how can you still be so naive? Did your brain stop developing in kindergarten?" 𝐟𝕣𝗲𝕖𝕨𝗲𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝗲𝚕.𝗰𝚘𝐦
Emmett chimed in, "Mom, even I’m not that naive, and I go to kindergarten."
A vein throbbed on Lord Lockwood’s temple. He looked like he wanted to tear Eliza Sutton to pieces.
Eliza put on a frightened expression and turned to Master Lockwood. "Grandpa, did you see that? Second Uncle can’t even handle the truth. And my dear cousin only listens to his father. Their family is truly unsuitable for the position of CEO of the Lockwood Group."
"Don’t worry. I never intended to give them the position."
"Eliza Sutton, shut your mouth! My cousin is dead and gone now. Do you really think you can still throw your weight around using his influence? Let me tell you, if you know what’s good for you, get on your knees for me right now. If you serve me well, maybe I’ll let you live!"
Florence Young said, "Husband, let’s stop wasting time. Let’s do it. I’ve waited too long for this day."
Lord Lockwood agreed, called his son over, and prepared to force Master Lockwood to sign and press his thumbprint.
Just then, the door to the lounge was thrown open. The person who burst in had a look of terror on their face and stammered, "Lord Lockwood, Young Master Fabian, it’s terrible! The Eldest Young Master... he... he’s back!"
"He’s not dead! He’s alive again!"
