After Prison I Rushed into Marriage with a Comatose Tycoon-Chapter 61: A Pretty Face and a Good Figure
Eliza Sutton’s mind went completely blank.
In fact, she had sensed Shane Lockwood’s suspicion ever since lunch.
But she never imagined that he was actually awake.
"I... I’m exercising." Eliza said, waving her other arm. Her lovely face was the very picture of sincerity. "I couldn’t sleep, so I thought a little exercise might help."
A cold sneer touched Shane Lockwood’s lips. "Exercising? And you need to hold a Silver Needle to do that?"
Shane Lockwood’s fingers tightened, and Eliza’s wrist immediately went numb with pain. She couldn’t muster any strength in her fingers, and the Silver Needle fell onto the bedsheet.
Shane Lockwood stared at the Silver Needle. "Eliza Sutton. Aren’t you going to explain?"
Eliza replied with utmost sincerity, "If I told you I was trying to master The Invincible East’s Flying Needle Skill, would you believe me?"
Shane Lockwood sneered, "Do you take me for an idiot?"
"Of course not, Mr. Lockwood. You’re brilliant and perceptive," Eliza said, laying on the flattery.
"So, why are you trying to deceive me with such a clumsy lie?"
"It’s true. I’m telling the truth." As Eliza spoke, she picked up the Silver Needle with her other hand. With a flick of her middle finger, the thin, flexible needle sank deep into the wall, its exposed end quivering.
Shane Lockwood’s pupils contracted sharply.
Eliza said, "To master this Flying Needle Skill, I practice every single day. I do it at night so no one discovers my secret. I never thought Mr. Lockwood would misunderstand and assume I had ill intentions. I’m truly sorry about that."
Eliza sounded exceptionally sincere and apologetic.
Shane Lockwood stared at Eliza for a long moment before finally releasing her hand. "It seems I misunderstood you. My apologies."
"There’s no need for that, Mr. Lockwood." Eliza got out of bed, retrieved the Silver Needle, and placed it back in her needle case.
She turned off the main room light, leaving only a single wall lamp on. Its warm, orange glow brought a sliver of light to the pitch-black room.
She lay back down on the bed and pulled the covers over herself.
Eliza turned to look at Shane Lockwood and suddenly asked, "Mr. Lockwood, would you trust someone you’ve only recently met?"
"No," Shane Lockwood answered without a moment’s hesitation.
Eliza wasn’t surprised at all.
’In truth, she wouldn’t either.’
’So she had been foolish.’
’To think she’d actually tried to treat Shane Lockwood in secret.’
’It was quite surprising. She still had this "savior complex," apparently.’
Eliza pulled her gaze away, looking up at the silhouette of the crystal chandelier on the ceiling. A silent smile graced her lips.
「The next day.」
Her previous treatment of Shane Lockwood had worked after all.
During the doctor’s rounds the next morning, he very happily told them that the wounds on Shane Lockwood’s back had begun to heal. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝐰𝚎𝕓𝐧𝚘𝘃𝗲𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝕞
"At this rate of healing, the wounds on President Lockwood’s back should all scab over within another week."
Mrs. Lockwood let out a long sigh of relief upon hearing this. She pressed her hands together and thanked the doctor repeatedly, "Thank you, doctor. Thank you so much."
"You’re too kind, Mrs. Lockwood." The doctor finished setting up Shane Lockwood’s IV drip and left.
Eliza filled a hot water bottle and placed it on the IV line.
Mrs. Lockwood took Eliza’s hand and said gently, "My dear, stop fussing and take a seat. You’ve been working so hard these past few days."
Eliza shook her head. "I’m not tired. All I’m doing are the little things, like helping with his meals and daily care."
But Mrs. Lockwood disagreed. "How could you say that? As a wife, taking good care of your husband is the most important contribution of all."
Eliza just smiled and said nothing.
Mrs. Lockwood added, "I’ll be here to watch over Shane today. You should go home and get some rest."
Eliza didn’t refuse. She did, in fact, have some personal matters to attend to.
After leaving the hospital, Eliza Sutton went to meet Woody and Saul Reynolds.
After she finished handling the work at hand, she called Woody over. "Still no news about Theo?"
Woody shook his head, his expression apologetic. "We only found that Theo appeared at the Angel Orphanage three years ago. It closed down later, all the children were gone, and all traces of Theo vanished with them."
Eliza Sutton parked her car at the entrance of the Angel Orphanage.
She walked into the dilapidated orphanage.
The information Amelia Sutton had given when she sent those people to kidnap her hadn’t been a complete lie.
Theo really had been at the Angel Orphanage.
Eliza walked slowly through the orphanage, looking at every detail. In a daze, she saw a small figure.
The little one was walking unsteadily. When he saw her, his small face lit up, and he came running toward her, sweetly calling, "Mommy!"
Eliza instinctively opened her arms to hug him, but she embraced nothing but air.
The small figure before her had vanished.
’It wasn’t real...’
Clarity instantly returned to Eliza’s eyes.
What she had just seen was only her imagination, born from how desperately she missed her child.
"Theo."
Eliza murmured, her eyes growing moist. The next second, she wiped the tears away.
She swore to herself that no matter where Theo was, even if he was at the ends of the earth, she would find him.
Eliza didn’t stay at the orphanage for long before leaving.
On the way, she called Woody again.
"Get a house ready for me."
"The house at Ryzan Bay is already being renovated. It should be ready in about two more months. You can move in right after your divorce is finalized."
"There’s no time." Eliza rolled down her car window a little. The wind blew in, tousling her hair. "My marriage to Shane Lockwood won’t last much longer."
Last night, he had caught her red-handed while she was treating him. Although she’d come up with an excuse and managed to placate Shane Lockwood...
...she knew he would never truly believe her.
He would definitely investigate her identity.
Her identity was well-hidden, but Yama Lockwood’s reputation wasn’t just for show. If he decided to dig all the way to the bottom, she wouldn’t be able to hide anything.
Woody’s spirits lifted. "That’s great! Boss, you’re finally going to be free."
The corners of Eliza’s lips curved up slightly. "Yes. I’m finally going to be free."
Just as Eliza Sutton stepped through the hospital entrance, a figure blocked her path.
"Slow down, slow down! An old man like me can barely keep up with you." Master Willow stood before Eliza, panting for breath.
Eliza took a closer look and finally recognized him. "You... You’re the elderly gentleman who had a heart attack and collapsed on the side of the road."
Master Willow slapped his thigh. "That’s right, the one and only! Granddaughter-in-law, you have no idea how long I’ve been looking for you."
"Wait... hold on." Eliza raised a hand to stop him, her face a mask of confusion. "Granddaughter-in-law? What granddaughter-in-law? Sir, are you sure you have the right person?"
"Of course I do!" Master Willow said hurriedly. "You saved my life that day, so I decided to offer myself to you in marriage. But, I’m a bit too old for that. Luckily, I have a grandson! He may not be the most promising lad, but he’s handsome, has a good build, and he’s only twenty-four. I think you’ll like him, my dear granddaughter-in-law."
Eliza Sutton: "..."
’This Master Willow really knew how to make a sales pitch. He must have been an expert back in his day.’
