After Rebirth, I Accept The Arranged Marriage-Chapter 184: Petty Man
In the end, Roman Lynch was the more reliable one.
[Roman Lynch: Why don’t you tactfully ask your wife if there are any investment slots left? Say we want to pitch in too?]
Roman Lynch knew that Victor Morgan was probably having one of his proud and prickly fits.
If he just had Victor Morgan tell Jessie Sterling directly that he had money and she should come to him, Victor would probably end up sulking for ages, even if it all worked out.
It was better to use the excuse that they also wanted to co-invest and ask Jessie Sterling if there were any openings.
If even after all that, Jessie Sterling still didn’t think of Victor Morgan, then Roman Lynch could only pray for his friend.
His financial power clearly didn’t register with his own wife at all!
Victor Morgan pinched the bridge of his nose again. He hadn’t gotten stressed enough at work to want a cigarette, but now, because of his wife’s investment problems, he was starting to crave one.
Just as Victor Morgan was debating whether to bring the matter up with Jessie Sterling himself, a voice suddenly called down from above.
"Victor Morgan!"
Victor Morgan looked up to see Jessie Sterling in her pajamas, leaning over the second-floor landing with her head poked out, looking down at him.
Jessie Sterling was holding a strawberry bowl and waving at Victor Morgan.
"Hm?"
Victor Morgan hadn’t yet figured out what she meant, but he instinctively stood up and started walking toward her on the stairs.
Just then, Jessie Sterling’s voice drifted down again.
"Feed me, I’m starving, and I’m broke!" Jessie Sterling’s eyes curved into crescents as she smiled at Victor Morgan, shaking the empty bowl in her hand. "Honey, do you have any money to invest in my TV show?"
Jessie Sterling had actually agonized for a while before deciding to come and sound Victor Morgan out.
She would never admit she was only approaching Victor Morgan because she’d hit a dead end after being coldly rejected by Old Two.
Before she spoke, Jessie Sterling’s heart had been pounding. ’Could Victor Morgan really be upset just because I didn’t ask him for money first?’
’Isn’t that a little too broody and aloof?’
’It doesn’t seem like Victor Morgan’s style.’
But now, after saying what she just said, she couldn’t help but smile as she watched the man striding up the stairs toward her.
Victor Morgan didn’t know why Jessie Sterling had suddenly asked him. He clearly hadn’t given her the slightest hint, yet here she was, asking him just like that.
Victor Morgan managed to maintain a calm expression, but his long strides toward Jessie Sterling seemed to give something away.
Victor Morgan took the empty fruit bowl from Jessie Sterling’s hand. "Okay, sure."
Jessie Sterling tilted her head, studying the man before her, then let out a little "PFFT" of laughter.
She couldn’t even fool herself that Victor hadn’t just been brooding and sulking all by himself.
Listening to Victor Morgan’s reply—he hadn’t even asked how big her funding gap was before agreeing—it was as if he’d been ready all along to fill whatever shortfall she had, no matter the size.
’This guy was unbelievable...’
Jessie Sterling couldn’t help but recall watching Victor Morgan from upstairs just now. His back was to her, and he was sitting on a small stool. Maybe it was because she knew he’d been sulking, but his silhouette had suddenly looked a little pitiful.
"What are you laughing at?" Victor Morgan finally asked, unable to stand it any longer after Jessie Sterling kept laughing to herself without offering any explanation.
Jessie Sterling took a step forward and grabbed Victor Morgan’s tie.
It was as if she’d only just noticed how formally dressed he was, looking like he was about to go out.
But then she remembered that Victor Morgan had been with her at the manor all day, and her heart softened. She stood on her tiptoes and gave him a soft peck on the lips.
"Victor Morgan, you’re so broody," Jessie Sterling whispered.
Victor Morgan: "..."
Faced with such an accusation, Victor Morgan felt it was absolutely necessary to defend himself.
He deliberately furrowed his brow. "What nonsense are you talking about?"
His voice sounded very serious, but Jessie Sterling could easily tell he wasn’t angry at all.
Jessie Sterling smiled slyly. "It’s true! Weren’t you just sulking all by yourself in secret?"
Victor Morgan, who thought he had hidden it so well, felt his expression freeze the moment he heard her words.
"What sulking?" Victor Morgan said, craning his neck stubbornly, still unwilling to admit it.
Jessie Sterling: "What do you think?"
Her voice seemed to have little hooks in it, and as Victor Morgan looked down at the woman in his arms, he thought her gaze was even more ensnaring.
Victor Morgan didn’t answer. He simply lowered his head and captured the red lips that were vexing him so.
’What was I sulking about?’
Victor Morgan knew perfectly well.
"You did that on purpose, didn’t you?" Victor Morgan murmured before the kiss ended, nipping Jessie Sterling’s lower lip hard. He watched as her red lips swelled slightly from his bite, looking even fuller.
Jessie Sterling’s eyes couldn’t help but curve into crescents again. "No!" ’I can swear it,’ she thought.
’Okay, so I really did forget to consider him earlier.’
But Jessie Sterling felt it was best not to say such a blunt truth out loud in front of Victor Morgan.
She was worried that Victor Morgan would be even more depressed if he knew the truth.
’This petty man would probably go sulk in a corner all night by himself.’
Victor Morgan: "Not planning on going back to sleep?"
Jessie Sterling hummed in agreement. "I think I might have slept a bit too much yesterday. Anyway, I don’t think I could fall asleep even if I lay down now."
Victor Morgan took Jessie Sterling’s hand and led her downstairs. "Alright. Perfect timing. You can calculate how much you need, and I’ll make the arrangements on my end."
Jessie Sterling tilted her head up. "Is President Morgan really that rich?"
Victor Morgan turned and shot her a sidelong glance, his expression showing a hint of that familiar pride.
"You’re only just realizing that?"
Jessie Sterling: "..."
’Suddenly, the man beside her seemed a little detestable. Piggy banks like him and Old Two were all detestable!’
’Is being rich that great?!’
After they went downstairs, Jessie Sterling declared that she actually had some savings of her own; it wasn’t like she was completely broke.
But as soon as Jessie Sterling said this, she looked up and met Victor Morgan’s indescribable gaze.
"Why are you looking at me like that? I do have savings!" Jessie Sterling puffed out her chest, as if that would make her more convincing.
The next moment, Jessie Sterling felt Victor Morgan gently ruffle her hair.
His touch was very light, and as he ruffled her hair, it felt so comfortable she wanted to close her eyes.
"Mm, I know. I believe you," Victor Morgan’s voice drifted down. "Just keep that little bit of money for yourself as pocket money."
’This was practically no different from saying, "Just keep it to play with."’
Jessie Sterling, who had just been about to close her eyes in contentment, suddenly snapped them wide open and stared at Victor Morgan.
This time, Victor Morgan didn’t show the slightest hint of guilt.
’As if he didn’t know how much Jessie Sterling had in savings. It was probably just enough to buy some fun colored diamonds or something.’
’How could he let his wife invest all her pocket money into work? If that happened, how would his pretty little kitten afford to make herself look all fragrant and soft in the future?’
’Even if Jessie Sterling were willing, he wouldn’t allow it.’
Jessie Sterling: "! What do you mean?! Are you looking down on me...?"
The last syllable hadn’t even left her lips before the man in front of her captured them in a kiss.
’When dealing with a pestering wife, this was a pretty good method,’ Victor Morgan thought.
