After Rebirth, I Replaced My Ex-Husband's True Love-Chapter 118: Linda’s True Identity
The young woman seemed a bit unwilling, "Mom, he’s divorced, can’t I like him?"
"Who knows if it’s true or not? Have you heard him announce it publicly? If he hasn’t admitted it himself, just take it as a rumor!" 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝚠𝚎𝚋𝗻𝗼𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝚘𝐦
"Hmph, he’ll admit it sooner or later."
After a while, the footsteps of the mother and daughter moved away, and I walked out of the stall.
That Lulu is Uncle Lawson’s daughter, Eloise Lawson.
I had met her once before the banquet when Uncle Lawson introduced us. At the time, she couldn’t help but glance at Henry Preston, but her attitude towards me was fine, smiling as she spoke.
I went to the sink to wash my hands and returned to the banquet hall nonchalantly to continue eating.
After dinner, the guests began to leave one after another. I looked around but didn’t see Uncle Lawson, so I planned to look for him to say goodbye before leaving.
"Zoe!"
Eloise suddenly appeared. She was about twenty-five or six, dressed quite maturely and elegantly, but on closer look, you could tell she was relatively young.
"Lulu." I smiled slightly.
"Hey, where’s Mr. Preston? Why isn’t he with you?" Eloise asked as she handed me a gift box, which was a bit heavy.
She said, "This is a return gift, Zoe."
"Thank you." I held the gift box pretending to look around, "But I don’t know where Henry is, you can look for him. Please help me tell Uncle Lawson that I have something to do and need to leave first."
"Oh, alright." Eloise nodded.
I left The Apex Grand Hotel with the gift box and prepared to take a taxi by the roadside.
A black Bentley parked in front of me, with a City A license plate.
The window was half open, and Henry’s gaze met mine, "I’ll drive you home."
"Sure." I replied quickly and sat in the front passenger seat.
Logically, I should keep my distance from Henry, but knowing I’m pregnant, and the child belongs to this man, I felt a bit shortchanged about raising the child alone.
What’s the big deal about getting a ride? I felt like not demanding more from him was already a sign of my education paying off.
Henry’s behavior was unpredictable, being nicer to me after the divorce, proving human nature’s contradiction.
After finishing this assignment and returning to Xylos, I probably wouldn’t come back for another two years, focusing on work there and giving birth to the child.
I hope Azure gets pregnant soon too, so when The Preston Family finds out I have a child, they won’t come fighting for it.
On the way, I asked Henry, "Why don’t you tell others we’re divorced? Didn’t you even tell Azure?"
"I did." Henry’s profile showed his high nose and slightly parted thin lips, "Apart from a few people around me, I couldn’t be bothered to tell anyone else."
I was silent; just because he hadn’t said it didn’t mean the news wouldn’t spread.
Otherwise, where did Eloise hear about it from?
"Just now, that Eloise likes you." I said bluntly, "Aren’t you afraid of not being able to withstand the loneliness in a long-distance relationship with Azure?"
Henry’s face darkened noticeably, "Just mind your own business."
"I don’t have that many troublesome love affairs." I muttered.
Henry let out a cold laugh, seemingly disagreeing with me.
When we arrived at the hotel entrance, I unbuckled my seatbelt and got out of the car. Just as I was about to go inside, Linda called me, "Zoe!"
I turned around to find her carrying some fruit, appearing to have just been out shopping.
"What did you buy?" I asked.
"Apples, some mangosteens, and strawberries. Do you want some?" Linda asked me.
I waved my hand, and out of the corner of my eye, I saw Henry still hadn’t left; instead, he got out of the car, and he looked at Linda with the same gaze as Ivan.
Linda’s expression changed drastically after seeing Henry, more intensely than when she saw Ivan.
Her gaze was as if seeing an enemy, with her eyes turning red.
My heart skipped a beat, feeling a sense of unease.
"Yardley, long time no see." Henry spoke first, his voice very light.
"Haha, Zoe, is he your friend too?" Linda ignored Henry and asked me instead.
I paused and confessed the truth, "He’s not a friend, he’s my ex-husband."
In that instant, I felt Linda look at me with even more hostility; she looked at me, then at Henry, her face frosty.
Suddenly, she rushed forward and slapped Henry hard. I was stunned for a moment.
Five distinct finger marks appeared on Henry’s cheek, but he said nothing, only looking gloomily at Linda.
"I’ve wanted to hit you like that for a long time; remember, I did it on behalf of my sister!" Linda said, furious, "If it weren’t for her repeatedly imploring in her will not to bother you, I would have fought you to the death back then!"
I caught the crucial point: sister.
Could Linda be Winter Tate’s sister?!
Henry seemed to want to say something but ended up silent, just looking at me.
"When you married him, didn’t you know he had someone he loved? You all killed my only sister!" Linda accused me, pointing.
I found myself surprisingly calm, as if my emotions had been numbed by all the things I’d been through.
I opened my mouth, "I didn’t know; your sister’s death has nothing to do with me. When I married Henry, I didn’t even know of your sister’s existence. If you want to blame someone, find the right person. I’m tired, I’m going to bed."
With that, I turned and left; I had just gotten out of this mess and didn’t want to wade back in.
Linda looked a little bewildered; perhaps she didn’t expect someone she saw as one of the culprits to be so indifferent.
After returning to my room, I chatted with Sherman Hathaway, asking what Linda’s real name was. He replied: Fern Tate, why?
I replied: It’s nothing, just curious.
Over an hour later, Linda returned, her eyes red with residual anger still on her face.
"I didn’t expect the one Henry married to be you," she voluntarily stated.
"Didn’t you pay attention to him over the years?" I asked calmly.
Linda sneered, "Pay attention to him? Seeing him even once reminds me of my poor sister. I’m afraid I’d lose control and go back to burn down his whole family!"
I could tell Fern Tate had deep feelings for her sister Winter, but she shouldn’t drag me into the blame. Essentially, I was a victim too.
Winter paid with her life; wasn’t I the same? I was just reborn, that’s all.
"Fern, I’ve already divorced Henry, and I didn’t find out about your sister’s matter until we were almost divorced. I hope you’ll be rational and not let personal grudges affect our work," I said peacefully.
Fern said nothing, just stared at me. After a while, she asked, "Henry met a girl who looks a lot like my sister, didn’t he? Is that why he divorced you?"
It seems they discussed a lot just now.
"Part of the reason is because of that girl, but let me clarify something: I’m the one who wanted the divorce, not Henry," I responded.
"He wouldn’t divorce you for that girl?" Fern seemed skeptical.
Perhaps she thought her sister’s life sacrifice should have been the biggest regret in Henry’s life.
If after meeting Azure, who resembled Winter, Henry wanted a divorce from me, it would, in a way, prove that Winter was his greatest love.
