After Rebirth, I Replaced My Ex-Husband's True Love-Chapter 127: Divorce Announcement to the Public
Every time Henry Preston hears me mention remarriage, his expression changes, visibly displeased.
But with the divorce certificate in hand, what can he do to me?
"Do you have a suitable target?" he asked.
"Tsk, aren’t they everywhere?" I replied calmly, "Don’t forget, when I was pursuing you, there were plenty of people chasing me too, but I insisted on tying myself to you."
Henry gazed at me, his deep black pupils showing some unclear emotions. After a while, he voiced his confusion, "Why can we still talk so peacefully between us? I’ve been pondering if you changed suddenly or gradually. My intuition suggests you changed suddenly, but I don’t know what prompted the change."
I changed suddenly, because I died once.
From Henry’s perspective, it must seem surprising. My feelings for him were so deep, it’s impossible for him to believe that I let go overnight.
Even the fact that we are chatting peacefully now is because I am calm enough.
In Henry’s mind, the person who should have initiated the divorce is him. I should be the one who is unwilling, clinging on relentlessly, which would seem more normal.
"What’s the big deal, didn’t you fall for Azure Vaughn at first sight? It’s just a moment’s thing, who can say for sure?" I explained casually.
"Really?" Henry obviously didn’t quite believe it, "Isn’t it because you have a new love?"
Lying in bed, I looked at Henry, "Why are you so concerned whether I have a new love or not?"
Henry was startled, seemingly realizing he was showing signs of jealousy again, so he fell silent, lost in thought.
I said, "The things you can’t get and those you’ve lost are always the best, right? From now on, don’t come to me. I don’t want to be involved between you and Azure. I wish you both happiness."
After speaking, I turned over, facing away from Henry, and stopped talking.
Henry should understand what I mean—it’s just a matter of unwillingness for him.
And I sincerely wish him and Azure happiness. This way, they won’t have time to disturb my life.
Henry and I run in the same circles, even though we’re divorced, intersection is inevitable. At most, we’ll nod acquaintance.
"If this is what you truly want, fine, I respect your choice." I heard Henry’s voice, followed by the sound of him getting up to leave.
I didn’t look back, just continued to rest my eyes, pretending he never came.
Three days later, I received news from home that Henry had announced our divorce to the media.
Previously not announced, he must have been wavering between me and Azure.
This counts as his final answer to me, right?
Crystal Dawson and the others already knew about my divorce, so they weren’t too excited. On the contrary, netizens at home started teasing me.
Netizen A: Has the Ninja Goddess’s ninjutsu worsened?!
Netizen B: Did Henry get divorced because of that college girl?
Netizen C: Ugh, scumbag couple.
Netizen D: Mr. Preston is genuinely in love with Azure Vaughn. He’s had countless rumors before but never divorced. By the way, his wife doesn’t take some of the property?
Netizen E: Looks like his wife’s family isn’t short of money either...
After scrolling through the netizens’ comments for a while, I turned off my phone. What was a ten-year tangled story for me was just a bit of gossip for others.
Many were criticizing Azure. I wondered if Laura Lawson saw this and would start opposing her daughter being with Henry again.
I wanted to let this matter end, but things didn’t go as I wished.
A call from my ex-mother-in-law left me in a dilemma. I didn’t answer the first call and only picked up the second.
"Zoe." My ex-mother-in-law’s voice was slightly anxious, "I heard you were hospitalized, what happened?"
"Auntie, I’m fine." I hesitated and replied, "Just a little physically weak, need to be hospitalized to recuperate for a while."
I was still having slight bleeding. The doctor said it’s best to stay until it stops and the baby stabilizes before being discharged.
My ex-mother-in-law paused, seemingly unaccustomed to my new way of addressing her.
After realizing, she continued, "You need to take care of yourself. You’re already so thin, eat more."
"I know, Auntie, you should also take care of yourself." I replied politely.
"Zoe, it’s our family that wronged you," my ex-mother-in-law sighed, "Henry told me that divorcing you was a delaying tactic, afraid you’d be unhappy, which could harm your health. He said he would find ways to win you back, but now it seems...he couldn’t."
No wonder there was no reaction from his family when we divorced before. So that’s what was happening.
I remained silent, not knowing what else to say.
"But I will never accept Azure!" my ex-mother-in-law suddenly became emotional, "Even if she becomes pregnant with Henry’s child, I won’t acknowledge it. To enter The Preston Family, it’d have to be over my dead body!"
I was surprised that my ex-mother-in-law hated Azure to the extent of not recognizing a future grandchild?
Wasn’t she eager to have a grandchild?
Then I understood, she was just too angry and said those words in a fit of rage. If Azure really got pregnant, my ex-mother-in-law might not be able to bear it.
"Auntie, if Henry and Azure are truly in love, you should make peace with it, a harmonious family brings prosperity." I pursed my lips and advised softly.
In the past life, I had cried and begged my ex-mother-in-law to help keep Henry, but she couldn’t do it.
"True love? That Azure can’t be that innocent. Anyway, I won’t accept her. If The Preston Family needs a daughter-in-law, I only acknowledge you." My ex-mother-in-law said.
She spoke sincerely, quite emotionally. But I felt nothing. Maybe she truly liked me as a daughter-in-law, but I couldn’t forgive her for the Winter Tate incident.
After a few more words, we ended the call.
My hospitalization must have been Henry telling my ex-mother-in-law, no others at home would know, not even Crystal and the others, to keep them from worrying.
But I forgot about someone who likes to pop up.
"Miss Hathaway." Azure Vaughn appeared at the door to my hospital room on the fourth day after Henry announced our divorce.
She seemed to have mostly recovered from her leg injury, although she still limped slightly. She held a bouquet of blue gentian and placed it next to my bed.
"Mr. Preston said your illness is serious, you need to be hospitalized, so I came to see you." Azure had her hair in a princess-style, exposing her beautiful forehead, with a gentle and serene demeanor, "Miss Hathaway, are you feeling better?" 𝚏𝕣𝕖𝚎𝚠𝚎𝚋𝚗𝐨𝐯𝕖𝕝.𝕔𝐨𝕞
I looked at her, expressionless, too lazy to speak.
Henry announced the divorce; she was here to flaunt it, nine times out of ten.
Azure was bothered by me, because Henry’s feelings for her didn’t seem that steadfast, so she needed to flaunt to gain security.
"He said you can’t get upset with your illness," Azure continued chatting to herself, "but he was too careless, announcing such news at a critical moment. I’m sorry, but I know he did it for my peace of mind."
I really wanted to laugh. To break her solo act, I sat up and threw the bouquet of flowers at her, "Knowing I can’t get upset, yet you bring flowers with bad connotations to see me, you’re quite thoughtful, aren’t you?"
