After Rebirth, I Replaced My Ex-Husband's True Love-Chapter 152: You’re the Third Party
Just then, I heard the sound of a vehicle outside the gate. I got up and walked over to take a look, and saw Henry Preston’s car appearing once again at my doorstep.
Why isn’t he at the hospital taking care of Azure, and what is he doing here again?
Henry got out of the car, surprised to see me staring at him from the door, then walked towards me.
"Shh." I gestured for silence.
Henry raised an eyebrow slightly. Although there was a hint of confusion in his eyes, he remained silent.
I continued to ask Fern Tate, "Why should I disappear? Even if Henry and I are divorced, I was once his rightful wife. Isn’t Azure the other woman?"
Hearing my words, Henry’s expression changed.
He had previously asked me not to call Azure the other woman, and now, saying it in front of him to someone else surely displeased him.
Fern couldn’t stand it either. That woman is strange; she must see Azure as Winter and can’t tolerate anyone attacking her own sister.
"Zoe Hathaway! You’re the other woman! You’re the damn one! If it weren’t for you marrying Henry back then, would Winter have jumped into the river?" Fern Tate shouted at me in anger, "Now you’re targeting Azure again, making things difficult for her on purpose. If anything happens to her, you should die! Die for both of them!"
"Fern Tate, for the last time, when I married Henry, I had no idea about your sister!" I coldly replied, staring at Henry’s face.
Fern shouted furiously, "So what if you didn’t know about my sister’s existence? Can’t you feel that Henry doesn’t love you? I heard he refused to marry you at first and only reluctantly accepted because of his grandfather’s illness. If you hadn’t been so shameless, you wouldn’t have had to get married, and my sister wouldn’t have been so desperate!"
She indeed knew all the details.
Henry’s face turned gloomy, and before I could respond, he reached in and took my phone.
"Winter’s matters have nothing to do with Zoe Hathaway. You can blame me for not being persistent enough back then, or blame your sister’s extreme personality. Either way, stop harassing Zoe Hathaway, understood?" Henry warned sternly.
I looked at him in surprise; Fern Tate was Winter’s only sister, and The Tate Family only had two sisters.
Fern was indeed anxious, "Henry, do you know what you’re saying? Why are you with Zoe Hathaway? Azure is still in the hospital, how can you not care for her!?"
Henry seemed uninterested in listening further and directly hung up the call, then blocked Fern Tate’s number right in front of me.
Watching his actions, I suddenly didn’t understand why he came here today.
I initially thought he was here to settle accounts with me, especially since I had told Azure about Winter, causing her to faint.
But judging from his attitude towards Fern earlier, he didn’t seem here to hold me accountable.
I deliberately let him hear what Fern had to say to see how he would continue to defend those two women.
"Why are you here?" I took the phone back and looked indifferently at Henry through the iron gate.
"Silas Lockwood mentioned something to me, and I came to confirm it with you." Henry looked down at me with a calm voice.
It seemed as if he was not the same person who had sternly warned others a moment ago.
"What is it? Ask away." I replied casually.
I didn’t expect Silas Lockwood couldn’t hold back and told Henry what Crystal Dawson had said when she went to find Azure that day. His intention must have been for Henry not to be deceived by Azure’s seemingly innocent appearance.
Though Henry was present at the time, he hadn’t heard what Azure said.
He asked me, "Is it true?"
"You don’t believe Silas Lockwood, so why come to ask me?" I retorted, "If I tell you not only is this true, but that Azure also knew about Winter’s situation, knew her mother, was clear about Fern’s identity, and deliberately pretended not to know, would you believe me?"
Henry’s eyes passed over with a chill, "Why would she pretend not to know, what does she gain from it?"
"If when we got married, I had known about Winter but pretended not to know, tell me, what would I gain?" I mocked, "A lot of people do things they’re ashamed of and need to find an excuse for themselves. How could Azure admit she’s just a stand-in?"
Henry’s thin lips pressed together tightly, his dark eyes fixated on me as if discerning whether I was lying.
I knew he wouldn’t believe it, but it was amusing. Why exactly did he come looking for me?
There are still some things I don’t want to tell Henry. When Azure returns to University A, I will naturally tell everyone. I don’t care if he believes me, as long as others do.
At that moment, my mom came out looking for me. Seeing Henry, she seemed as if she had seen a ghost, quickly pulling me back inside without saying a word to him.
A few minutes after my mom and I went back inside, Henry drove away.
"Zoe, why did he come looking for you? You shouldn’t see him. If your dad were home, he would certainly chase him away with a broom!" My mom reproached a bit.
"He came by himself; I’m not sure," I shook my head, "But don’t worry, mom. He just came to ask a few questions, nothing else."
My mom looked at me suspiciously, "Really?"
I hurriedly swore, "Really, after some more time to recover, I’m planning on traveling abroad, going around and having fun. Maybe I’ll bring you back a foreign son-in-law, one with blonde hair, blue eyes, and all about ’hello’!"
"Pfft!" My mom laughed, "How are you still a romantic? After being hurt by Henry, you’re still thinking about getting married? Not planning to stay single for life?"
"I don’t plan to. I can’t give up the whole forest for a single tree!" I replied.
My mom patted my arm reassuringly. I knew my parents never wanted me to stay single for life.
I don’t know if Henry would think carefully about my words once he gets back, but I feel even if he believes me, it’s meaningless. Isn’t it just Azure pretending not to know about Winter? What’s the big deal? She’s just a simple girl who occasionally has some selfish thoughts.
Crystal Dawson updates me daily about Azure’s condition, all honestly reported back by Silas Lockwood.
Azure lay in a hospital bed for about a week before she started to recover a bit.
She’s like a fragile doll, surrounded by a group of people afraid she might face any trouble.
Henry hired professionals to take care of her, and Fern Tate, Elvie Lawson, and Walter Vaughn took turns staying by her side. Reportedly, Joy Lawson, even from abroad, is planning to return. She’s one of Azure’s fanatical supporters.
However, to my surprise, Ivan Underwood returned even faster.
He wore a white coat as always, but stood taller than the others, with a bright, clean appearance. His clear, cold eyes paused as they fell on me.
"Dr. Underwood, you’re back!" A nurse greeted him shyly.
"Yes, I’m back." Ivan replied simply, with a calm expression, and then walked over toward me.
He glanced at the paper in my hand, "What’s wrong?"
I quickly shook my head, "It’s not me. I’m here with my mom for an exam. Her heart’s a bit weak, so regular check-ups are better."
My mom was getting an EKG at the moment; I was just waiting for her.
"When did you get back? How come I didn’t know?" I asked.
Ivan looked at me and answered, "I got back last night, quite late. I didn’t want to disturb your rest."
I nodded, truly considerate.
"Do Henry and the others know?" I asked again.
"No, I haven’t told them yet. You and he..." Ivan’s brow furrowed slightly, but then relaxed, "How are things?"
I laughed, "What could possibly happen between him and me? If it weren’t for Azure liking to jump in front of me for attention, I probably wouldn’t have any interactions with him anymore."
Ivan seemed like he wanted to chat more, but someone came to get him, his back fading into the distance. I felt uneasy about the distance between him and Henry caused by me; I would feel guilty if it did.
My mom finished her examination at that point as well, happily saying, "Looks good, nothing’s wrong."
I linked arms with her and replied with a smile, "That’s good, keep the good mood up!"
As the two of us were about to leave, we ran into Eloise Lawson at the hospital entrance. Her eyes lit up upon seeing me and she walked over briskly.
"Hello, Auntie!" She first greeted my mom and then asked, "Auntie, can I borrow Zoe for a moment?"
"What’s up?" I asked curiously.
Eloise dragged me to the side and whispered, "Zoe, I want to ask you something. Do you know Azure is in this hospital?"
I was startled, "What do you want to see her for?"
Eloise pouted, "I want to see her in person. I haven’t met her yet. What’s so special about her that makes Henry care so much?"
I fell silent. This girl had no clue about Winter, just like me in my previous life, thinking Azure was Henry’s true love.
And like me, she wants to find Azure and see her true self for herself.
