Chapter 83: Chapter 83: She Said She’s Fallen for Him

Ivan merely raised an eyebrow and then advised, "Before you remarry, be sure to take care of yourself. Don’t actually get your head messed up."

I muttered "None of your business," not sure if he heard it clearly.

A young nurse hurried over and called Ivan away, and after he left, Crystal Dawson returned, seeming to have figured things out and was very excited, "Zoe, you really were a simp till the end, and you got everything?!"

"No, a divorce is still a divorce." I was at peace and said calmly, "Henry Preston has already told Ivan and them about our divorce, including Azure Vaughn."

Crystal’s smile froze on her face, "Huh?"

Even though she had been navigating the field of romance for years and could be considered an expert in matters of love, she was momentarily bewildered by the on-again, off-again relationship between Henry and me.

Usually, when someone breaks the norm to offer help, and another has just been discussing feelings of guilt with her, isn’t that a sign of a reunion?

But then again, Crystal is Crystal. After being momentarily stunned, she became even more excited, "Right! If you should divorce, then divorce! A woman shouldn’t be so humble. He treated you badly for ten years, and you can’t just forgive him because he shows a hint of kindness. Divorce him and let him attend your wedding in hell!"

I couldn’t help but laugh. Crystal is really funny. Once Henry and I divorce, not only will there be no dramatic "chase-the-wife-to-the-ends-of-the-earth" scenario, but it will also lead to him and Azure getting married and having a family.

Azure’s existence is still a major reason why Henry agreed to divorce me.

"Alright, alright, your imagination is really something. Go buy me some food, I want to eat the canteen’s eggplant with minced meat, it’s quite tasty." I urged Crystal with a smile.

"You don’t want meals from a five-star hotel but must have the canteen’s eggplant with minced meat. Oh, you!" Crystal pretended to criticize my inability to enjoy luxury, yet earnestly headed to the canteen, as it was mealtime and there was a queue.

With only me left in the ward, the smile on my face gradually disappeared, replaced by a faint sense of loss.

I got up and walked to the window, gazing at the snowy ground below. The hospital staff was setting up New Year’s decorations, and the atmosphere seemed nice.

Tomorrow is New Year’s Day, but I have to spend it in the hospital, truly miserable.

As I was lost in thought, I heard footsteps behind me. I thought Crystal had returned so soon and spoke, "Any plans for New Year’s Day? If not, why not keep me company?"

There was no response behind me, puzzled, I turned around, only to see Azure Vaughn looking a bit uneasy. 𝕗𝐫𝐞𝕖𝕨𝐞𝗯𝚗𝕠𝘃𝐞𝚕.𝐜𝗼𝚖

She had put on light makeup, looking very exquisite. Her already beautiful face showed a hint of guilt. She was wearing a long black down jacket with polka dots, with a fitted waistline, and a sweet bow at the collar. Under the bare-legged look, she wore white mid-calf boots. I could tell at a glance that her clothes now had a better quality than before, likely much more expensive, but still brands I couldn’t recognize.

Today, she seemed to have matured and become more composed.

"Miss Hathaway, are you feeling better?" Azure asked softly.

"What do you think?" I looked at her coldly. After the incident where I was kidnapped, my impression of her had plummeted.

After speaking, I returned to the bed, picked up my phone to play, unwilling to pay attention to her.

Azure gently sat on the chair beside the bed, dared not look straight at me, but couldn’t help glancing at me. I furrowed my brow, put down my phone, and asked, "Do you have something to say?"

"No, I’m just worried about your health." Azure bit her lip and still replied softly.

"A person who can’t wait for my demise, why would you worry about my health?" I feigned surprise and questioned.

Azure’s face immediately lost all color, turning pale. She shook her head hard, "No, Miss Hathaway, I didn’t wish for your death!"

I coldly said, "Really? Then tell me why, when I was at the dock warehouse, you clearly heard my cries for help, yet you turned a blind eye and ear, and still went to tell Henry and them that I wasn’t there? Later, when Henry came looking, even Connor’s phone ringtone could be heard, yet you couldn’t hear my desperate cries for help?"

A series of questions made Azure’s face very uneasy. She mumbled, "Miss Hathaway, I’m not that kind of person. You should know me better, right? I just didn’t hear at that time, maybe having some hearing issues."

"A person studying vocal music has hearing issues?!" I felt my intelligence was being insulted, "Azure, why have you become like this? That night Henry should have told you that he and I are about to divorce, why are you in such a hurry?"

Azure had her darker side of her heart exposed by me, she seemed unable to accept that she had done such a horrible thing, and she started crying, "Miss Hathaway, I’m sorry, I might be crazy recently, I... I seem to have fallen in love with Mr. Preston!"

I originally had a whole bunch of words to retort, but they all got stuck in my throat at that moment, unable to come out.

Azure sobbed, "I know... I know I shouldn’t have feelings for him, but he always forcefully intervenes in my life. Unconsciously, I got used to his presence, and I started to feel inferior. I’m not worthy of him, I can’t compare to you, that’s why I did such things on impulse. Miss Hathaway, I’m sorry. Please don’t tell Henry, okay?"

As soon as I tell Henry, he might not accept that his cherished one, his "white moonlight," has become so petty and malicious.

I found it quite amusing, "Azure, be honest with me, did you get used to his presence, or did you fall for his lavish spending on you? It’s easy to go from frugality to luxury, but hard to go back, I get that. From the clothes you’re wearing, I can tell what you’re thinking. Your father’s surgery, the relocation house, Henry took care of all that, right? Isn’t it the convenience brought by money and power that you’ve grown accustomed to?"

"No!" Azure became agitated, seemingly unable to tolerate my belittling of her feelings. Her eyes reddened, "That’s not it at all! I’m not here just for money; I’ve really fallen for him as a person!"

"And also, Miss Hathaway, it wasn’t Henry who sowed the seeds of materialism in me, it was you." Azure added, her gaze at me turned somewhat sorrowful, yet determined.

"You showed me what a truly affluent life looks like. The clothes you wore previously, the jewelry, I looked them up, they were very expensive. And the money you lent me for renting my wedding dress, you lent it to an unfamiliar person so effortlessly and didn’t rush me for repayment, plus the car Joel talked about - everything was something I never knew or desired before."

I was indeed shocked. Is it possible that in the end, it was me who led Azure to worship Henry’s wealth?

Was it my flaunting of wealth that twisted the soul of a pure girl?

Alright, maybe I did have a bit of a show-off tendency. In my previous life, Azure’s appearance caused the downfall of my family. In this life, I can fulfill her and Henry’s relationship, but emotionally, I feel a bit unbalanced, so I did some sneaky things deliberately.

"You can leave now." I didn’t want to say more to Azure.
