After Rebirth, I Replaced My Ex-Husband's True Love-Chapter 91: Filing for Divorce
The hot pot made me feel all warm and cozy, and along with Joel Sutton being quite talkative, the atmosphere was really pleasant.
Later, I drove to Prosperity Park, the largest park in City A, which has a large artificial lake. It’s beautiful in the summer when the lotus flowers bloom, and in the winter, a layer of ice forms on which birds perch. Visitors buy some bread, crumble it, and throw it down for the birds to peck at.
Joel Sutton also bought two loaves of bread, handing one to me, "Miss Hathaway, you feed them too."
"Alright." I opened the bread, crumbled it with my hands, and threw it onto the lake. A few birds immediately came to peck at it, and it was quite lively.
After we finished feeding the bread, we took a walk around the park. I rarely come out for a stroll, and even though it was quite cold, I was pretty happy.
Finally, we arrived at the foot of Mount Valen. The stone steps were relatively clean; the hikers had already trodden away all the snow.
While climbing the mountain, Joel Sutton suddenly brought up Azure Vaughn, "I heard she brought a man home to meet her parents, but it wasn’t your husband."
What a sarcastic remark. I stopped to catch my breath and replied, "I know, Henry Preston went to see her afterwards, and I happened to be at her house at the time."
"You were at her house??" Joel Sutton was quite shocked.
"Yes, her mom used to work as a maid at my home. She was very warm and gave me some Chinese medicine, so I went to pick it up." I talked about it candidly.
Joel Sutton nodded and continued to climb the mountain in silence.
When we reached the top of the mountain, I was already drenched in sweat. I took off my coat, and the cold wind felt refreshing.
I gazed at the snowy scenery of Mount Valen, and it was truly beautiful. The City A at the foot of the mountain looked like a winter wonderland, shimmering under the crisp sunlight.
"Miss Hathaway, let me take some pictures for you," Joel Sutton put down his backpack, pulled out the chubby tabby, and handed it to me, "How about holding it for a few shots?"
I leaned against the railing, took the chubby tabby, and smiled at him, "Sure, let’s do it this way."
Joel Sutton’s photography skills were quite good. I had seen photos he’d taken of Azure Vaughn in his social media moments before. After taking a dozen shots, he said, "Alright, come take a look."
I walked over, earnestly selecting beautiful photos, until someone stood in front of us, prompting me to look up.
Ivan Underwood appeared in front of me like a ghost, with a group of his colleagues not far behind, sneaking glances at us.
"Ivan Underwood, what are you doing here?" I was totally unprepared to see him.
"Year-end mountain climbing team-building," Ivan Underwood didn’t look at me but instead at Joel Sutton, "Together with Azure’s ex-boyfriend again?"
He’s getting more and more obnoxious with his words now, what’s with that?
Joel Sutton’s expression subtly changed, and he looked at Ivan Underwood with animosity. Young people are more ambitious and can’t stand sarcastic remarks.
"Joel Sutton and I are just friends, and it’s normal to go hiking together. He and Azure have been broken up for a while. You don’t need to call him that," I looked at Ivan Underwood, clearly displeased, "Let me reintroduce you; he’s called Joel Sutton."
"Have you divorced Henry Preston?" Ivan Underwood didn’t respond to my unhappiness but questioned me instead.
The mention of this matter irked me. Since Joel Sutton knew about it, I didn’t need to hold back, venting my dissatisfaction quite bluntly, "Why are you asking me about that? I’ve drafted the divorce agreement three or four times, and he just won’t sign it. Didn’t I ask you to persuade him to divorce me? You should go and do it!"
Joel Sutton gave me another startled look, probably not expecting me to be so straightforward.
Remembering Henry Preston’s furious expression when he rushed to The Vaughn Family, I felt no attachment at all.
"Miss Hathaway, don’t be upset, it’s bad for your health," Joel Sutton quickly consoled me.
"I’m not upset; I just feel this guy is unreasonable. Why does he always find fault with me? A typical case of helping relatives rather than reasoning!" I intentionally said this for Ivan Underwood to hear.
Clearly, Henry Preston was in the wrong, so why am I being criticized?
Ivan Underwood’s eyes darkened slightly, and I sensed he might be getting angry, although it wasn’t very obvious. 𝚏𝕣𝐞𝗲𝐰𝕖𝐛𝐧𝕠𝕧𝚎𝚕.𝐜𝚘𝗺
That’s when a woman called out "Dr. Underwood," and Ivan turned around. A young woman wearing matching couple outdoor jackets came over, her eyes brimming with admiration for Ivan.
Since I had stayed in the hospital for a few days, I recognized the woman as a nurse who had even given me injections.
"Everyone’s ready to start barbecuing, let’s go." The little nurse’s voice was sweet.
"Okay." Ivan’s response was cold as he turned and left.
Joel Sutton watched their backs as they left and suddenly said, "Miss Hathaway, be careful of him."
I looked at him, puzzled.
He said seriously, "My male intuition tells me he might be trying to come between someone."
"Hahaha..." I couldn’t help but laugh out. Joel Sutton, like Crystal Dawson and the others, has totally misunderstood Ivan.
"What’s so funny?" Joel Sutton asked awkwardly.
"Nothing, Sutton, if you say Ivan is trying to come between Azure and someone, I might believe it, you know?" I patted Joel Sutton’s arm, "Let’s go, let’s see what else is fun at the top of the mountain."
Joel Sutton and I looked around but found that besides the scenery, there really wasn’t much else.
Ivan and his group had come prepared; they were setting up grills in the cold wind and preparing food. It was surprising to see him participating in team-building.
A bunch of pretty girls swarmed around Ivan, making him look very popular.
Unfortunately, he was rather oblivious to the romantic atmosphere.
"Sutton, let’s go back down the mountain," I said to Joel Sutton, feeling a bit deflated about lingering around.
Joel Sutton nodded and obediently followed behind me as we descended the mountain.
By the time we returned to the foot of the mountain, it was late. Before we parted, I could tell Joel Sutton had something to say to me, but my mood was sour, and I didn’t want to invite more trouble, so I drove away before he could speak.
In the rearview mirror, Joel Sutton stood by the roadside, unmoving.
My guilt flared up again at that moment. I thought I should stop giving Joel Sutton hope from now on.
I’ve decided; I’m going to sue Henry Preston for divorce!
With this thought in mind, I immediately told Crystal Dawson and the others after returning home, which got them all riled up. Even Tiana O’Connell recommended a lawyer who specializes in divorce cases to me.
Under the lawyer’s guidance, I started preparing the petition.
Two days later, I submitted the petition to the court. If everything goes smoothly, Henry Preston will be notified in seven days. Regardless of how he responds, I have made up my mind—divorce is a must.
As for my parents and in-laws, I’ll deal with them as they come.
Upon hearing that I had submitted the petition, Crystal Dawson was as excited as a monkey, rushing to my house at night to ask, "Really? Zoe, does that mean my brother has a chance?!"
