Chapter 1794: The Cold War (Part 2)

Ulric paled, especially when he saw his elementalists pause their movements. They researched Alterra a lot before attacking, of course they did, and these elementalists must also know a lot and knew the advantages.

They had also heard of this legendary "trash talk" and how it could affect their morale! It’s such a high-level technique! 𝑓𝘳𝘦𝑒𝑤𝑒𝘣𝘯ℴ𝘷𝘦𝓁.𝑐𝑜𝑚

"Don’t forget your oaths!!" Ulric screamed, along with the generals in other areas. "You have to do your best or face punishment from the heavens!"

Fortunately, the elementalists shook their heads of the doubts, and they started working again.

Anyway, now that the ramp has fallen, the Zabon people had to adjust their strategy.

Going against level 7 walls—which were nearly 8 meters high—and Level 7 sentries, which were far stronger and had longer range, simply wasn’t on the same level as fighting level 5 ones, which were the standard walls for Towns below level 3.

Hence, most of them hadn’t fought against one before, so many of their fighters had a bit of an adjustment period, and they were pushed on the defensive for a while.

Their shields were up, and the people squeezed in behind, while they also threw in their own attacks. Their earth users focused on creating walls to shield them, and then repair as the enemy earth users tried to dismantle them in turn.

Whoosh! Whoosh!

"Ah!"

Not every spot could be covered by the walls; when the enemy shifted their attacks there, another opening would be formed.

Still, they were tens of thousands in number, so they couldn’t lose without even breaching anything!

The earth users gulped down their mana potions, opting to create roofed platforms that fit a few people instead. They tried to let it hold more, but then their speed would slow down, and the enemy earth user could get to them before their people could reach that high.

Hours passed by with this kind of stalemate, and the people from Zabon were obviously strained, losing their energy very quickly, and more and more of them were getting hit by arrows, life and death unknown.

In contrast, the enemies were much more leisurely. If they got tired, then others would take over while they recovered. Worse was when the enemy powerhouses, like Oslo, would make a move, and their earth shields would be useless.

It was getting too difficult, but the Zabon people, according to Oath, were doing their best. Ulric’s only comfort was that it had only been a few hours, so it wasn’t hopeless. He had already sent aether letters to his people at the back to send a message to their Lord, asking for reinforcement, and there should be teams of mercenaries heading in to support.

This was until...they suddenly felt their blood turn cold. Literally.

The temperature did not just drop; each drop of water started to freeze, including the moisture in the air, causing people’s skin to get irritated.

"AHHH! Damnit!!"

"It’s so cold!"

"It’s suddenly difficult to move!"

"FIRE USERS! FIRE USERS!"

The Zabon folk had no choice but to gather around their fire users and those with heating items in their spaces. In the meantime, people from the battlement stopped attacking, and only the sentries were pushing out arrows.

They looked down with that sound amplifier of theirs in hand.

"Ah! It’s so cold. I’d better turn on my hand warmer. Ahhh, that’s better."

"Did you drink soup?"

"Is it still warm? Whoa, that’s a self-healing bowl, right? It can keep things warm even in the cold? Amaziiinggg~"

It was a bowl that had the technology from heat packs underneath it, which would allow some things to cook without cooking materials. Of course, since this was not a normal winter, the heat would only last a minute or two outdoors, but the enemies did not know that.

"I could use wine...oh? You have a bottle? Give me some!"

The Zabon attackers glared, and they felt angrier when they felt envious.

"These bastards!!"

...

No matter how much they cursed, no matter how angry they got, no matter how much blood rose up their brains in anger, it just wouldn’t get warm enough.

Some people at the back who had heard rumors that Alterra announced an extreme cold happening finally confirmed it and immediately headed back, knowing there was no chance of winning this war now.

However, this was also acknowledging their loss and knowing the implications of it.

Everyone who went through the array (except for those hired by the chancery and the Mercenary halls, as they were protected from slavery) would likely become slaves or the so-called Prisoners of War.

The only bright side was that this was a town-level war, so the people outside wouldn’t die for a few hours of exposure.

They sure would suffer, though.

And there was no way they could win, so many more wanted to run back.

Alterra didn’t seem like it was planning to stop them either. That said, there were also plenty of people who were injured. Many were also still being injured by the sentries, who had not stopped shooting as soon as they entered their scope.

In contrast, the Alterrans were also a bit cold, but they looked so comfortable. "We have warmers."

Sad for them, the new wall was more than 7 meters tall and wasn’t easy to jump over anymore.

Unexpectedly, they saw dozens of metallic things drop down. Some were hit and hurt, while others avoided it.

They thought they were dangerous at first and panicked, until they saw that what was thrown didn’t move anymore.

"Shovels?"

"If you bury yourselves in the ground, you’d not only be warmer, but we also won’t attack you. What do you say?"

"..."

"We’ll also send torches around the areas with at least 10 buried people!"

"..."

....

Twenty or so hours later, thousands of people had already buried themselves, while the rest—those in the back area and those who could still move—had returned through the array.

The others up front wanted to go back, too, but level 40 to 60 powerhouses appeared behind them, fully clad with winter clothing and heating equipment, setting up blockages. Anyone who tried to go past would be trapped in something, probably waiting for death.

So the thousands of people, including a good majority of the elementalists, had no choice but to do as they were asked.

Soon, the war officially ended, and people, including a shivering Uric, looked at the new notification he had received.

[You are now a slave to Alterra Town (Lv2)]

Well, at least he was warmer.
