After work, start to speedrun the other world-Chapter 48 - 29 Preparing to Slay the Dragon_3
"There is a plan that requires your cooperation," Xi Mu’s tone calmed down as he mimicked the Witch of Death, with his fingers interlaced across his chest.
"However, the prerequisite is that I must become a Hero."
"You mean, we should cooperate with your actions?" the man asked dubiously, just as Xi Mu pointed to his chest.
"If you need convincing, you can personally feel the runes inscribed by the Witch herself for me."
The man fell silent for a moment and then asked, "What do you want us to help you with?"
"Help me intensify the curse on a dragon," Xi Mu answered, "I need to become the hero who slays it."
"Just weaken the dragon?" the man frowned, then saw Xi Mu smile mysteriously as he explained.
"This is just the beginning; the Witch has more plans in store," Xi Mu’s gaze was distant as he spun a yarn with all seriousness.
"You will also need to propagate throughout the world the idea that Hell does not exist."
"Propagate that Hell does not exist?" the man was stunned, unable to grasp Xi Mu’s words, for the existence of Hell was universally acknowledged.
At this, Xi Mu explained:
"Hell’s existence—who among you has seen it with your own eyes? It might just be a lie. As long as this idea exists, it will surely cause panic."
"To prove itself, the divine will have to act."
The man came to an understanding, "Then we’ll have the opportunity to infiltrate Hell and break the Witch’s seal!"
"Exactly," Xi Mu nodded. Currently active, the Witch of Death was not her true form but merely an incarnation.
Her true body was still confined in Hell, unable to act.
And the followers of the Witch of Death had been trying to find a way to free her for many years.
"I’m starting to believe that you are truly favored by the Witch," the man exhaled deeply, "We will help you weaken the dragon."
"Good," Xi Mu nodded calmly, heading towards the park exit, then heard the man behind him ask.
"Did the Witch mention us?"
"Otherwise, why would I contact you?" Xi Mu replied and continued walking towards the park exit.
In fact, the Witch of Death was unaware that she still had followers alive, after over ten thousand years had passed.
With such a lengthy period, the Witch of Death had assumed her followers were all dead and had no plans to reestablish a cult surrounding her.
But that did not stop him from using the power of those followers of the Witch of Death.
The following day.
The sky was slightly bright.
"...Are you serious about going to fight the dragon now?" Siegfried stroked his chin, looking at the knight clad in silver before him.
"No disrespect, but do you really understand how powerful a dragon is?"
"I understand," Xi Mu replied calmly, "That’s why I don’t plan to fight the dragon head-on like you."
"Then what do you plan to do?" Siegfried asked, as Xi Mu turned around to look at Letixia, Jed, and Yasiraqi behind him.
"Use poison, curses, hire mages to deplete the dragon’s strength with long-range magic, and only move in to strike when the dragon is on its last breath."
Siegfried fell silent for a moment: "Does that still count as being a dragon-slaying hero?"
"Will the dragon die or not?" Xi Mu asked, and after a long silence, Siegfried asked.
"If I become a dragon in the future, you wouldn’t use the same tactics against me, would you?"
"No, I would kill you with my own hands," Xi Mu answered decisively. If he could personally take down a boss, then he certainly wouldn’t let anyone assist him, for fear that they might steal the kill and cause him to lose a lot of experience points.
Siegfried fell silent for a long while, then turned his gaze to his daughter Yasiraqi and asked:
"Why are you following them?"
"Slaying a dragon seems like a fun thing to try," Yasiraqi explained. Xi Mu had found her the previous night and asked if she wanted to fight the dragon like her father.
She felt thrilled by the idea, and considering the unfortunate dragon was already weak from the curse, she merely needed to fund an army and wait until the dragon was weak enough for her to strike a few times and gain a sense of involvement.
Afterwards, with a bit of promotion, she could pass as a dragon-slaying hero as well.
"Fine, you guys go ahead," Siegfried waved his hand, somewhat helpless but also somewhat reassured. It seemed his chosen protégé was also quite cunning, not an overly righteous knight, which assured him he could safely entrust the country to Ahtal’s protection.
Those who are too upright in this world... cannot survive.
...
...
The following day.
The unnamed forest.
Xi Mu stood on a hillside, overlooking a huge canyon in the center of the forest where the occasional painful roars of a dragon could be heard.
The dragon was indeed in a weakened state, but it presumably still had the capability to attack, enough to end his life with just one blow.
The disparity between their power levels was too great.
"When night falls, we’ll start with the poisoning," he turned to Letixia, Jed, and Yasiraqi, explaining.
"We’ll start with a hard-to-detect toxin to weaken the dragon, then gradually increase the dose, while arranging for people to curse the dragon from behind."
Saying this, he turned to the wealthy Yasiraqi and spoke.
"The task of recruiting mercenaries, I’ll leave to you, Yasiraqi. All the fame from dragon-slaying will also solely be yours," he stated.
Yasiraqi, curious, asked: "Don’t you want to become a dragon-slaying hero?"
"I don’t," Xi Mu responded promptly, "This dragon slaying is mainly to deepen my understanding of dragons, fame is completely irrelevant."
After all, he was only interested in the experience points from slaughtering dragons, and fame was merely good for achieving a dragon-slaying achievement, which meant nothing to him.
He could achieve it sooner or later.
