Chapter 61: Chapter 36 Rainfall

"Why would such monsters invade!"

Soldiers fled in panic, fearful of the silver-clad Knight catching up. It was his first time facing such a terrifying being; that fanatical and indifferent gaze struck terror into hearts, especially as comrades were slaughtered one by one. Even in fleeing, they would be finished off.

Glancing back subconsciously, he only saw the distant silver-clad Knight hurling a Knight’s long spear, piercing through the air and, along with it, his neck.

Almost let an experience pack slip away.

Xi Mu pulled his gaze back and then turned to the maid beside him, who was so fearful she was about to cry, and said, "As long as you take me to where the King is imprisoned, I’ll let you go."

"Yes!" The maid, shuddering with fear, obediently led the blood-stained silver-clad Knight toward the place where the King was held.

Along the way, there were hardly any soldiers who dared to block Xi Mu’s path, making it almost unobstructed.

Occasionally a few more capable Knights would emerge, but they were quickly dealt with by a few slashes from Xi Mu, leaving behind several resentful corpses.

Meanwhile.

Elsewhere.

Letixia and Fifine, with the cover and help of past servants, successfully infiltrated the room where the King was imprisoned.

However, the person they met first was not the King.

It was Princess Ashliya, sitting beside the King’s bed, placing a bowl of medicinal soup on the nightstand.

"Sister, you’re back." She smiled and greeted Letixia, appearing not at all surprised by her sister’s return.

"Father fell gravely ill and had no choice but to pass the throne to me."

"..."

Letixia fell silent, her green eyes flashing complexity, while Fifine next to her was extremely panicked, vigilantly scanning the surroundings in search of ambush soldiers.

Ashliya stood up from the other side, seemingly forgetting the gap in strength between her and Letixia, or perhaps she felt that Letixia wouldn’t bear to kill her own little sister.

She approached Letixia with ease, maintaining that ever-sweet smile, just like the cute sister who was once so reliant on Letixia.

"It’s just me here, no ambush set up," she said, extending her hand to touch Letixia’s shoulder.

But she found a thin sword at her throat.

The atmosphere turned tense.

Letixia’s green eyes were icy. She did care a great deal about her sister and didn’t want to kill her kin.

But now, she could no longer trust her own sister.

Seeing the thin sword at her throat, Ashliya revealed a radiant smile, her pupil’s color shifting from green to the red of burning flames, betraying a madness, a madness that burns everything to ashes.

"Sister, do you want to kill me?" She grabbed the sword, and red flames burst from her fingers, instantly burning the sword to pieces.

At that moment, Letixia also reacted, slashing the broken sword towards Ashliya’s throat without hesitation or doubt.

But Ashliya’s reflexes were quicker, stepping back just in time. Her sweet smile chilled in an instant.

"I had intended to make sure you understood why you died, Sister." She sighed with regret, facing Letixia’s angry gaze.

"Sister, the one who should be angry now is me."

"Ashliya, you’ve actually become a follower of Surter," Letixia gritted her teeth, looking at her sister’s red pupils.

Their family’s pupil color was always green unless affected by an external force such as receiving a blessing from a deity, resulting in a change of appearance.

Ashliya had undoubtedly accepted the power of the Flame Giant Surter.

"Not a follower, but an equivalent exchange." Ashliya smiled demurely, lifting her hand to brush a golden lock of hair from her ear as sparks fell. 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒆𝙬𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝒎

"When I thrust the Sword of Light into the altar, I received Surter’s attention and gained power beyond yours, Sister."

With this, she raised a finger with a dancing flame.

"Now, even on my own, I can kill you, Sister."

"Why would you do that?" Letixia asked, seizing the opportunity to understand the whole story since her sister had not arranged for any guards.

In response, Ashliya replied with a smile, "Sister, you really are naively excessive. My motives could not be more ample."

She explained cheerfully.

"To become the Queen of the Iris Flower Kingdom, to gain even greater power, wealth, authority."

"Ambition is the best motive."

Irrefutable; if someone betrays their own family for power, wealth, and status, and even associates with an Evil God.

It was all too logical; the annals of history clearly showed how insanely humans could act for wealth and power.

Not only against their own fathers but also mercilessly against their own children.

"I never saw this side of you before," Fifine unexpectedly spoke up looking at the dazzlingly smiling Princess Ashliya, feeling as though she’d been deceived.

Ashliya found the remark amusing: "I never had the opportunity before. What could I do if I didn’t play the obedient girl?"

She raised her hand to touch her beautiful face.

"If it weren’t for Sister visiting the Gods, I would not have had the chance to take everything from you, not just the Iris Flower Kingdom, but also the Sword of Light."
