Chapter 80: Chapter 5: The Gathering of the Evil Cultists_2

This transition scene can sometimes be really... troublesome, for players interested in the storyline. The old lady’s narration makes it easier for players to immerse themselves.

However, for him, it was somewhat dull.

"This is Alistair, previously hailed as the most talented mage," the old lady pointed to another table, where a man with black short hair dressed like a clergyman was intently stacking tarot cards.

It was only when the old lady mentioned him that he glanced at Xi Mu, their eyes met briefly before tacitly diverting their gazes.

Indifference, that was the message Xi Mu and Alistair conveyed through their exchange of glances, holding no interest even to speak to each other.

"This is Martha, she once killed a dragon with her bare hands." The old lady seemed oblivious to the indifferent atmosphere, pointing at a gentle-smiling young girl wearing gauntlets.

"She is one of the few within the followers of Church of Death who is easy to talk to."

"Hi~" Martha smiled broadly, greeting Xi Mu with a sunny smile and a gentle wave, appearing very amiable.

She was one of the few approachable members within the Church of Death.

But upon hearing this, Xi Mu simply nodded coolly in response, not particularly interested in Martha, especially since Ms. Martha was a spy infiltrating the church.

"Lastly, that brings us to me," the old lady tapped the ground with her cane, drawing everyone’s attention.

"Granny Saisi, the first maid of the Witch of Death." Her introduction was concise, without delving too deeply.

Yet this self-introduction was already quite significant.

"Granny Saisi, does that mean you have lived for over ten thousand years?" Martha covered her mouth in shock, seemingly amazed that the old lady had lived for ten thousand years.

Nowadays, the members of the Church of Death had changed countless times, with everything but their faith in the Witch of Death mostly lost in history.

It was unexpected that someone had lived on from ten thousand years ago.

"Hehehe... just lived long, that’s all." Granny Saisi smiled amicably, not elaborating on how she managed to live for ten thousand years.

She turned her head, looking at the calm Xi Mu.

"Let Ahtal speak about the plan."

"..."

Xi Mu felt everyone’s gazes as he calmly took a sip of his drink, then seriously said:

"The plan should be set by the teacher, I am just here to take you to meet the teacher."

The atmosphere fell silent.

Afterwards.

"Hahaha, Lord Ahtal, you are really too funny," Martha laughed heartily, wiping the tears at the corners of her eyes.

"Gathering all us nefarious folks here, and you don’t even have a plan?"

"I don’t mind waiting," Bloody Countess covered her lips and smiled faintly, her crimson eyes filled with allure, tempting one to tear off her red dress and ravage her on the table.

Alistair next to her raised his hand, over turning his stacked tarot cards and looking at the cards scattered on the table.

"Fate shows all is well." His voice was calm, but it somehow relaxed the atmosphere of the tavern.

And this was indeed the value of the once most talented mage.

"Since Alistair has said so, then we can be at ease," Granny Saisi smiled, looking at Xi Mu and said:

"Lord Ahtal, let’s go meet your teacher."

Xi Mu nodded: "Meet at the hotel rooftop tonight."

"Okay." Alistair nodded, then stood up and left the tavern, followed by Killing Spree Jack and the Bloody Countess, taking their leave as well.

Since the plan was not to be executed now, they naturally went about their own agendas.

"Everyone’s gone, huh? I was hoping to spend some time with everyone," Martha sighed, pulling up a chair to sit next to Xi Mu.

She supported her cheeks with her hands, her eyes brimming with smiles.

"We’re colleagues now, how about getting to know each other?"

"..."

Xi Mu gave a cold glance at the overfamiliar Martha, the spy lady was a good person, but she showed no mercy to players joining the Church of Death.

Unless the players caused Martha to fall from grace.

"I’m tired, I need to rest." He stood up and left, leaving the underground tavern, and Martha, seemingly undaunted, followed Xi Mu for a while, only to find him disappearing suddenly into a slum area.

After she searched for a while.

In a secluded alley.

Martha witnessed a murder scene where Ahtal indifferently covered a dwarf’s mouth with one hand and forcefully twisted it, a neck-breaking sound ensued, and the struggling dwarf breathed his last.

"You’re still following?" Xi Mu, looking at Martha at the entrance of the alley, crouched down and touched the dwarf’s body.

With black flames rising, the body was reduced to ashes.

"Are you making this sacrifice for the Witch of Death, my lady?" Martha asked, only to see Ahtal giving her a subtle look.

"No." Xi Mu stood, flexing his wrist, "They were followers of the Flame Giant Surter, specifically here to assassinate me."

He saw the puzzlement in Martha’s eyes.

"I have some history with the followers of the Flame Giant Surter. I previously stopped their plans to unleash the Flame Giant Surter."

"You stopped the plans to unleash the Flame Giant Surter?" Martha covered her mouth in shock, "Lord Ahtal, you are indeed a hero."

"That’s why I told you not to follow me." Xi Mu said coldly, then suddenly dodged, evading an assassin’s attack from behind.

He landed an elbow strike on the assassin’s neck, a crisp snap of breaking bones audible, and the assassin likewise lost his breath.

"This is my own affair, no need for you to intervene." He crouched down, touched the creature’s body, and the black flames quickly turned it into ashes.

Then he continued wandering in the slum area, efficiently and decisively taking out the attacking assassins under Martha’s watchful eye.

His professionalism and decisiveness were more formidable than the attacking assassins.

Having done all this.

Xi Mu left the slum area and went to the temple of the Goddess of Life, where, led by a nun, he devoutly confessed to the Goddess of Life.

Seeing this, Martha was utterly confused; she suddenly couldn’t understand Ahtal, who, not long ago, was mingling with the most evil cult in the world, discussing extremely sinister conspiracies.

And now, Ahtal had come to the temple of the Goddess of Life, earnestly praying and confessing, and, even more absurdly, Ahtal indeed had the care of the Goddess of Life.

Is it her who is abnormal, or is it this world?

After praying for a long time.

Xi Mu mainly altered the recent events in the Iris Flower Kingdom slightly, claiming that he was helping a friend reclaim his country and accidentally discovered that the followers of the Flame Giant Surter were enacting an evil plan.

For this, he stood out without hesitation, successfully thwarting the plan, but subsequently, he got infected by the fire of Surter.

As of now, his life wasn’t expected to last much longer.

"Goddess, can my soul serve you in the high heavens after I die?" Xi Mu raised his hand, clutching the necklace that symbolized the blessing of the Goddess of Life.

Latterly, the necklace emitted a faint glow, seemingly receiving a response from the Goddess, signifying that he had a further blessing of the Goddess.

A cultist blessed by the Goddess?

Martha’s mouth dropped open in astonishment at this scene; from the intensity radiating from the necklace, this man had received a not insignificant benefaction.

Is it the Goddess of Life who’s blind, or is it her who is problematic?

And just then, Xi Mu had finished praying, lowered his clasped hands, and looked at the astonished Martha, saying:

"This is the reward from the Goddess for me, nothing to be surprised about."

Everything done in the Iris Flower Kingdom could be known to All Gods, after all, the Iris Flower Kingdom has a church presence, naturally, devotees would tell the Gods.

And the things to come were much simpler; with the kindness and compassion of the Goddess of Life, just by pathetically pleading to the Goddess that he stopped the Flame Giant from being unleashed, costing him nearly his life.

Getting a reward was not difficult.
