After work, start to speedrun the other world-Chapter 85 - 8: The Night of Assassination
The atmosphere at the banquet plummeted to freezing in an instant, as everyone’s gaze turned toward Lady Hecate at the entrance.
All present understood that Prince Four was a composed and kind man, hardly likely to kill his own siblings—especially not now, given the fierce internal strife between the academy and royal factions, making it even less likely for him to kill his siblings at this time.
And Lady Hecate, as the leader of the academy faction, certainly had the motive to strike against the royal family members.
To weaken the influence of the royal family.
"Teacher, your timing is a bit unfortunate," Xi Mu stood up to greet her, walking over to Hecate’s side.
Seeing her disciple standing by her side in the face of the questioning gazes of the crowd, a smile appeared on Hecate’s face.
"Disciple, don’t mind the gaze of those who pose no threat. Even if their glare is sharp, it’s meaningless to you,"
Her tender yet nonchalant words exuded arrogance, irrelevant of the distinguished identities of everyone present, as far as Hecate was concerned.
Arrogance... No, she had every right to speak so.
After all, she was Hecate, a true genius of magic, controlling the flow of all destinies, able to manipulate the life of everyone present with ease, like marionettes.
No one objected, and the silence was deafening.
And then...
"Why do I feel that Lady Hecate is very kind to that man?" In a corner, a noble young lady whispered to her close friend.
Though her voice was not loud, it drew the attention of everyone.
The noble young lady’s face stiffened as she felt the synchronized gaze of everyone, forcing out a smile that was both awkward and polite.
Seeing this, her close friend hurriedly pulled her to dash away.
The crowd’s gaze shifted and then settled back on Xi Mu, also noticing Hecate’s favor toward her disciple.
"Hehehe is this Lady Hecate’s beloved disciple?" An old mage in a gold-embroidered robe, with white hair, stepped forward.
He leaned on his magic staff, blocking in front of Hecate and Xi Mu.
"Surely he must be a genius not inferior to you?"
Hecate turned her head to glance at her disciple beside her and smiled, "I actually hope my disciple is a bit less clever."
She feigned distress with a sigh.
"Sometimes having a too clever disciple can make a teacher feel unaccomplished."
So Versailles.
The old mage twitched his mouth, but he held back his thoughts, observed Xi Mu, and said:
"It seems he really is a genius, but just relying on talent is not enough to become an outstanding mage. Education in thought must also keep up." After saying this, he chose to turn and leave.
Hecate, seemingly not detecting the sarcasm of the old mage, turned to Xi Mu and said, "Disciple, would you like me to tutor you tonight?"
"I’d rather not, teacher," Xi Mu displayed a reluctant demeanor. He had absolutely no interest in Hecate’s late-night teaching.
After all, the main goal of attending this banquet was to let everyone see he was favored by Hecate, thus making them believe that if he were assassinated, it would certainly hurt Hecate, this proud genius mage.
After all, tonight Hecate had conspired to kill the prince and princess, and the royal family must counterattack, and assassinating him was the best choice.
"If you change your mind, you can always come to me for lessons,"
Hecate did not insist, confident in her ability to ensure her disciple’s safety within the Magic Castle, even if he did not stay by her side.
And she was curious to see how her disciple would survive the assassination attempt this night.
After staying at the banquet for a while.
Xi Mu left the banquet hall alone, his figure gradually vanishing into the darkness of the night, while Hecate stood at the banquet entrance, watching this scene and then observing the trajectory of the stars.
She then turned to Yasiraqi beside her and said, "Whether I can interpret this correctly now, I cannot confirm."
She spoke so.
"Ask me again in two days." After saying this, she vanished into stardust, while Yasiraqi, hearing this, paused slightly, immediately realizing that something was about to happen in the Magic Castle.
Although she had not yet clarified her thoughts, she could ascertain that the internal strife in the Magic Kingdom had reached a critical period.
It might even decide whether the Magic Kingdom continues to exist.
...
...
Bustling street.
Xi Mu entered a watch shop, looking at the myriad of watches in the glass showcase, appearing to ponder which watch to buy.
Noticing his potential intention to purchase, a shop assistant approached with a sweet smile and gently asked:
"Sir, what kind of watch would you like?"
A swift stab.
Xi Mu watched as the shop assistant’s eyes widened in horror, retracted the hand that had pierced her neck, then stepped back, letting her blood spray inside the glass showcase.
Blood slid down the glass, and the shop assistant’s eyes remained wide open as she convulsed on the ground, life fading from her body.
Terror.
Screams.
Escape.
The customers and staff in the watch store panicked and fled, while Xi Mu crouched down, took a dagger glowing blue from the sleeve of the female shop assistant.
Clearly pre-poisoned.
After securing the dagger, Xi Mu touched the face of the female assassin; accompanied by black flames spreading, the body quickly turned to ash.
He walked out the door, his gaze locked on a distant clock tower.
