After work, start to speedrun the other world-Chapter 87 - 9 The Origin Soul
Xi Mu glanced at the morning sun outside the window and then swept his eyes over the followers of the Witch of Death present, asking:
"Why have you come so early in the morning?"
"Granny Saisi called us over ahead of time," Martha’s pretty face showed annoyance, "otherwise I would still be sleeping."
Under normal circumstances, she was only supposed to come over in the afternoon, yet Granny Saisi had pulled her over ahead of schedule.
Otherwise, she would have had time to take a stroll around the Magic Castle after waking up naturally.
"Hehe, I just suddenly remembered some things," Granny Saisi let out a grating laugh, her gaze shifting to Hecate as she spoke:
"Since we’re going to assassinate the Magic Queen, afterward I hope her soul can be sacrificed to the great Witch of Death."
Hecate readily answered, "That can be arranged."
She did not care about the life or death of the Magic Queen, nor had she any desire to toy with the Magic Queen’s soul, so the sacrifice was of no consequence to her.
"Isn’t it too early to be discussing the sacrifice of the Magic Queen?" Martha held her cheeks in her hands, "In terms of magical prowess, the Magic Queen is not inferior to Lady Hecate."
Upon hearing this, the Bloody Countess made a joke: "Maybe the Magic Queen has already become a Witch."
That was impossible.
Xi Mu thought so but did not voice it out loud; if one purely considered magical Talent, the Magic Queen was indeed not inferior to Hecate.
But the Magic Queen could never become a Witch due to a fundamental limitation; any soul in this world that has undergone reincarnation faces a growth ceiling and can only remain in the realm of humanity, regardless of how astonishing the Talent.
Only the primal souls, those that have not experienced reincarnation, could transcend the limits of humanity and become what people refer to as Witches or Demons.
And since the Magic Queen’s soul had already experienced reincarnation, even with her exceptional talent, she could not break through that limit.
"We can’t rule out that possibility."
Hecate, unaware of what her disciple was thinking, said calmly: "Perhaps the Magic Queen has already become the Witch of the Moon."
Martha sighed: "That would truly be terrifying."
If she really faced a Witch directly, she could not be certain of her own survival, given that Witches had long since left the realm of humanity.
"The Magic Queen, favored by the gods, should not seek the power of a Witch," the Bloody Countess spoke up, "That would be a betrayal of her faith."
At this point, she suddenly looked at Xi Mu, her certainty in her own conjecture wavering, given that among them, someone worshipped both the Goddess of Life and the Witch of Death.
"Why are you all looking at me?" Xi Mu frowned, "Faith stems from my principles, and it has nothing to do with stance."
Bloody Countess: "..."
This man seemed completely oblivious to the contradiction between Witch and Goddess, somehow giving off the impression that he was playing both sides.
...
...
Sunrise.
Sunset.
The entire Magic Castle had suddenly quieted down, even though the night was usually the beginning of the bustle, there were almost no pedestrians on the streets.
It was eerily quiet.
And then, at that moment, a luxurious carriage crossed the street, heading towards the direction of the Royal City.
Xi Mu sat by the window, looking at the retreating scene outside.
With the technological prowess held by the Magic Castle, various convenient means of transportation could have been created long ago, but perhaps the game officials aimed to enhance the players’ immersion or were simply too lazy to think further.
In the settings determined by the game officials, the use of any alchemical artifact required approval by the church, and only after obtaining permission could they be used and sold.
Aside from moving at high speeds through individual power, no efficient means of transportation received approval; even though mages were filled with creativity and talent, without the church’s permission, they could not use them openly.
Since carriages were not alchemical artifacts and did not require the church’s approval, they were widely and commonly used all over the world.
Of course, if you could find a dragon to pull the carriage, you wouldn’t need the church’s approval either. You’d just need to put on the harness, and it could be used.
Before long,
The carriage entered the Royal City successfully and then proceeded to the grand library to meet the Magic Queen under the guidance of the maids.
Before entering,
"You can wait here for me," Hecate stopped and spoke to the followers of death behind her.
"What follows is the battle between me and the Magic Queen."
"Not hiding it anymore?" A weary voice came through as the fourth Prince emerged from the grand library.
"There’s no need for subterfuge at this point," Hecate responded coldly before entering the grand library.
The fourth Prince did not stop her, allowing Hecate to pass by; his gaze then fell on Xi Mu, starting to speak:
"Lord Ahtal, we meet again."
"..." Xi Mu did not respond, removing the Hunting King’s Greatsword from his back, his palm stroking the blade as black flames ignited along it.
The fourth Prince sighed at the sight.
"Your mentor is not a gentle person; she’s unscrupulous in her quest to reach the pinnacle of Magic. She may be gentle with you today, but she might turn around and kill you tomorrow."
He extended his hand sincerely.
"Lord Ahtal, I do not wish to be your enemy, and if you agree to withdraw now, I... no, the Magic Kingdom will consider you a friend and will not hold your transgressions against you."
Now that the Magic Kingdom had gone through this civil war, it would undoubtedly enter an unprecedented period of weakness, and he truly did not want to offend Ahtal, a man backed by Sky City.
This was not advantageous for the stability of the Magic Kingdom, and also because Xi Mu was almost a Heroic figure, daring to confront a nation alone, for his friends... perhaps even for a lover.
