Chapter 50: Chapter 50: Smell of the Masked Knight

Brand checked on the map while Karl was enjoying the recordings. From time to time, he would strike some fighting poses. Seraphine enjoyed watching Karl, though, his self-admiring performance.

"Go! Wolf boy!" Seraphine cheered while mimicking Karl’s pose.

Brand was concentrating on planning their strategy from here, but the others were too distracting for him. Ruby was looking at him with an intense gaze, which made him feel uncomfortable as well.

’At least say something!’

"Eddy and the others are reaching!" He called out and moved to the rear to welcome the rest of his teammates.

They soon came into his vision, and when he saw them, he couldn’t help but gulp.

"You guys suffered what kind of injuries?" He asked, as every one of them was covered entirely in bandages. They look like they’ve just been in a serious car crash, but they still reported to work.

’Get some time off!’ Brand wished for them.

"We’re okay... It’s not that serious... I mean, it really hurt a lot... but not until the full-body bandages..." Eric looked like he was in pain.

"Eric suffered the most." Eddy stepped up to greet Brand. "He suffered an explosion at a very close range."

Eric nodded and said, "I thought I was a goner... I might be dead if not for my high defence..."

"Luckily, the traitors targeted me. If it were others, they might..." Eric didn’t finish his sentence.

Brand came to the realization that there was no healer in the team.

’Was it because their tribe is combat-oriented?’

"Here, a health recovery herb I saved up." He took out the herb and passed it to Eric. Eric received the herb while tanking him.

Eric was the tanker of the team. He has to be kept healthy. But Brand couldn’t help but wonder what kind of damage he had taken that he received that much damage.

Eric continued, explaining what happened back then. "Be careful... The enemies have some sort of orb tha—"

Brand brought out one of the bombs he looted from the spies earlier. Eric, who was in the middle of an explanation, froze when he saw the bombs—or orbs.

’Ah, are his injuries from the bombs? But he managed to survive the explosion up close?"

Considering the two spies were blown up to bits upon impact, Eric was impressive to be still alive.

Eddy went up to the side of Eric and patted his back.

Brand then saw Eddy approaching him afterwards. "Where did you get that?" He asked with a fierce expression, as if he had a serious grudge with the bomb.

"This was looted from the two outsiders. They tried to use this on me as well, but I stopped them before they were able to." He explained. "I do use it on them, though, as a cleanup, so I’m impressed that Eric survived that."

Eddy laughed while patting Eric in excitement. Brand hand-palmed his face when he saw Eddy slap Eric’s back with a loud bang.

’He is fainting there...’

The others laughed along with Eddy, andEric grinned while scratching his back.

"They are always like that." Ruby went up to his side and sighed, but even then, she was smiling.

"That’s how they show their concern, I guess." Seraphined whispered to Brand, to which he nodded in agreement.

Karl walked toward Eddy and shared greetings with each other. Then he returned to look at the recording device.

’Why is he so fixated on it...’

"He is going to get addicted..." Brand worried for Karl for a moment there, but Karl soon closed the recording device.

"I now know where to improve," Karl replied.

"Improve what?" Brand asked. "Please tell me it’s about our battle formation, or your fighting stance..."

Karl began to whirl his cape, his hands clapping together, creating a loud, thunderous sound. Lightning sparks emitted from his hands, sending strands of lightning stretching between his fingers.

"How is it?" Karl asked.

"Sorry, what’s that?" He asked, looking at Karl, dumbfounded.

’Did he create a skill out of nowhere, by only looking at the footage?’

"I call it Lightning Clap for now," Karl said proudly, showing his trademark smirking look. "I always knew something was missing when I tried the move earlier, on the way I channel my energy."

"But now, I could see where I lacked." Karl pointed to the recordings.

"Wow..." Brand was envious of his talent.

"He is known as a prodigy within the tribe, after all." Seraphine giggled and asked Brand. "Maybe you can try it?"

Brand took the recording device and rechecked the fighting scene with Raml-d’ah.

’Hmm...’

"Looking so intensely on the Masked Knight?" Karl asked with a skeptical look, eyes narrowed on him.

’Shit... I’m supposed to be hiding the identity...’

"I didn’t see this creature called ’Masked Knight’, as I was tending to my wound after I got knocked out by Raml-d’ah, remember?" Brand replied.

"Nice save!" Seraphine exclaimed.

"Ahh... He’s quite an individual." Karl said. "But he’s a bastard."

"Haha... Why is he a bastard?" He was laughing from within, because he knew what Karl was displeased with.

"He ditched me, even though we were supposed to be fighting with the boss worm together," Karl replied in a low voice, appearing still sulky.

"I thought we could at least be friends."

"Even though he might be a demonic creature?" Brand asked with curiosity. He tried to picture from Karl’s perspective, his Scarab Form should appear as a suspicious humanoid creature in his eyes.

"He had a good smell," Karl explained calmly. "He doesn’t smell like an enemy, that’s what I mean."

"I see..." He did remember Karl saying something similar before, that he could smell if a person was suspicious. That was also how he chose to assign the Ed trio to test him back then, as well as the foreign travelers in the tavern.

Karl then sniffed him. He was taken aback and stepped backward for a few steps.

"You smell like the Masked Knight." He was surprised at Karl’s statement, who was also grinning at him.
