All My Superpowers Come from the Law of Causality-Chapter 144: Not Every Superpower User Is Called Su Xin
"We still need to continue awakening new superpowers."
"Additionally, upgrading our abilities must not stop, especially with Damage Transfer. We must address the flaw of randomly transferring damage as soon as possible, otherwise, attacking in crowded places would be too troublesome."
Su Xin thought to himself.
He had also made up his mind. As long as the other party really did as he suggested, publicly executing some people and compensating him with a large sum of money, this incident would be wrapped up.
Once he had the money, he could continue making donations to charity, quickly earning causal points.
His goal was never to do anything drastic to the Yonghui Financial Group, because he did not harbor deep resentment against them nor did he have any desire to destroy the entire group. Rather, he saw them as a good opponent that could bring him joy since they actively sought him out.
What he wanted was the process of confronting them, like having played against minor monsters in a game for a long time and finally reaching the BOSS level; even if he had cheats on and felt the BOSS wasn’t difficult, it was still much more exciting than dealing with the minor monsters all the time.
And now, he had already killed more than twenty executives of the Yonghui Financial Group, and since they showed such cowardice, it wouldn’t be interesting to continue.
Moreover, the Yonghui Financial Group was a giant worldwide. To really eradicate them would have an enormous impact, potentially leading to indirect harm to many people.
He wasn’t ruthless enough to do that.
Of course, all of this is predicated on them truly admitting defeat and doing as he asked.
And providing compensation that satisfied him.
...
Wanghai Country, Lening City.
The investigation team stationed here by the Nirvana Association apprehended several individuals who had considerable interactions with Su Xin, with only Lin Yufei managing to escape.
Moreover, due to the appearance of Skinny Ghost, more attention was diverted to Lin Yufei, prompting the investigation team to report to their superiors and quickly dispatch several more people to capture her.
At the same time, the police noticed the presence of Skinny Ghost, a superpower user, and promptly sent personnel to the site, dealing with the three Nirvana Association members who died and investigating Skinny Ghost.
However, due to changes in Skinny Ghost’s appearance, no one in the community recognized him, so the police could only focus on Lin Yufei, who seemed to have a connection with him.
Of course, based on the testimonies of bystanders, the police also knew that Lin Yufei might be friends with Su Xin and dared not offend her recklessly, opting to investigate with the softest possible approach.
The Nirvana Association was even more so.
They were also prepared to try and cooperate with Su Xin; without progress in this matter, they certainly couldn’t afford to turn hostile with him.
Thus, both parties, openly and covertly, investigated this old community, and it didn’t take long to thoroughly map out Lin Yufei’s connections.
Yet, they still couldn’t find any trace of Lin Yufei.
While both parties were conducting their thorough search,
Lin Yufei and Skinny Ghost were hiding in a dark basement.
Holding a needleless injection device in his hand, Skinny Ghost seriously said:
"This is a drug I stole from the Kangbo Biological Company’s lab. It’s a drug that can induce superpower awakening in humans."
"However, it’s just a semi-finished product."
"The ninety percent chance of death I mentioned earlier was honestly just an offhand remark because I don’t even know its true mortality rate."
"What I do know is that among many experimental subjects at Kangbo Biological Company, only one person successfully awakened a superpower using it."
"Moreover, even after this experimental subject awakened, the Kangbo Biological Company didn’t seem to regard this drug as a final product. I suspect that even if a superpower is awakened, there could be significant side effects."
"In short, its mortality rate is extremely high, so high that even I don’t know, and it likely has side effects. If you truly reach a point of desperation, you can take a gamble with this."
"But you’re far from desperate. I advise you to consider carefully."
Lin Yufei was silent for a long time before asking:
"Uncle, can I ask you what connection you have with Kangbo Biological Company?"
"I am one of their test subjects."
As he spoke, Skinny Ghost raised his hand, looking at his withered arm, his gaze became distant:
"I endured a long time, finally finding a chance to escape from their lab, and I paid a great price, almost dying on my way out."
"This drug was something I grabbed from the lab during my escape."
"I originally thought, since this drug could potentially awaken superpowers in humans, even with a low probability, there would be a glimmer of hope. If it succeeded, maybe I could have another companion to help me take revenge on the Kangbo Biological Company."
He chuckled self-deprecatingly and shook his head, saying:
"I actually know that the Kangbo Biological Company is so financially robust and powerful that even if I did help someone awaken a superpower, and they were willing to help me with revenge, mere two superpower users would be unable to do anything to Kangbo Biological Company, after all..."
"Not all superpower users are as strong as Su Xin. Even if they awaken superpowers, most people are still ordinary flesh and blood, still easily taken down by a bullet."
"Superpowers aren’t as magical as you imagine."
"The reason I offered you this potion is simply because, if by chance you awaken a superpower, it might give you some ability to protect yourself, not because having it will allow you to ignore the threats posed by those forces."
"So, using this potion is tantamount to risking over ninety percent chance of death, merely in exchange for a thirty percent chance of growing stronger."
"Even so, are you willing to use it?"
Lin Yufei didn’t answer, instead she asked:
"Uncle, what do you think I’ll face if I go home now? What will my fate be?"
Skinny Ghost thought for a moment, unsure, and said:
"After all, you’re Su Xin’s friend, those people probably won’t dare to rashly harm you. Perhaps they just plan to use you to threaten Su Xin, or maybe they really want to take you to a safe place to protect you, to prevent Su Xin’s enemies from finding you."
"As for your eventual fate..."
"I can’t guess."
"But I think it will be closely tied to Su Xin, given that Su Xin is now the global focus. Since you have a connection with him and have been approached, more and more people are bound to link you to him."
"If Su Xin can maintain this deterrence that makes the world dare not act recklessly, perhaps no one would dare to touch you."
"But if he cannot maintain this deterrence, is forced into a desperate escape, or if he crosses paths with some forces leading to bitter conflict, then your fate would be quite dire."
Lin Yufei sighed softly, gazing at the potion in Skinny Ghost’s hand, murmuring:
"Uncle, you know what? My experiences have been extremely unfortunate; my parents are both gambling addicts, their private lives unchecked, and they barely consider home as anything, nor have they ever considered me as anything."
"I’ve gone hungry countless times since childhood, needed to manage study alongside figuring out how to get food for myself, learned to wash clothes, learned how to survive on my own; no matter what, I could only swallow it all down."
"In middle school, my father even planned to sell me to someone else, abandoning the idea only after I chopped at him with a kitchen knife; during school, because I often ate poorly, dressed poorly, I was mocked by many and fought with many."
"In order to pay for tuition and living expenses, I studied hard while finding time to work in many places, never taking a single day off."
"I vowed from a young age to study hard because I believed only in this way could I escape that home, change my destiny, and take control of my life."
"No matter how bitter life got, I held onto that belief, never wavering."
"I’ve persisted for so long..."
Lin Yufei’s gaze gradually became bewildered, her eyes growing more and more vacant:
"But, only today did I discover, the world is nothing like I imagined, no matter how desperately I struggle, I cannot compare to those lucky enough to awaken a powerful superpower."
"The most crucial thing is, I cannot grasp my own destiny; these years of striving with all my might were all for nothing."
"My life, my future, all hinge on Su Xin’s performance, merely because I’ve had some interaction with him, merely because I lack influence and background, merely because I’m just a regular high school student with no presence, my fate hangs on the whim of others..."
"No, I absolutely refuse!"
Lin Yufei’s eyes gradually emitted a sharp glow, her tone growing increasingly resolute:
"I won’t wait for fate’s judgment in the tug-of-war between Su Xin and those forces; I want to seize my own destiny, and even if there’s only a sliver of chance, I’ll definitely give it a try."
"Even if I fail, die, that too would be my fate, a fate of my own choosing, not dictated by others!"
"If I succeed..."
"I will start a new life."
Skinny Ghost ceased to advise against it, but instead handed over the syringe, solemnly stating:
"I wish you success!"
"Thank you!"
Lin Yufei took the syringe, looked it over, and asked: "How do I use this?"
"Let me help you."
Skinny Ghost took the syringe back, asked Lin Yufei to roll up her sleeve, aimed the syringe at her arm, pressed a button, injecting the potion inside.
Lin Yufei only felt a slight pain in her arm, followed quickly by a refreshing sensation spreading rapidly throughout her body, as if she’d gulped down a cold drink on a hot day, providing both physical and mental comfort.
But in the next moment.
Her entire body started to feel itchy and numb; before she could begin scratching, this itchiness turned into a needle-like pain, as though every inch of flesh were simultaneously pricked by needles.
"Sss!!"
Lin Yufei’s eyes shook violently, the pain causing her entire body to curl up, collapsing to the ground and curling into a trembling ball, her consciousness plunging into emptiness.
In this torturous agony, Lin Yufei was unsure how long had passed; many times she thought she might not endure, seemed on the brink of death.
Yet, every time she thought of her past experiences, realizing she had never tasted happiness, remembering so many things unseen, uneaten, unplayed, realizing so many regrets in life, she gritted her teeth and persevered.
She had endured such long suffering in her painful life, hadn’t had a chance to enjoy life, why should she silently die?
