Alpha's Hidden Precious Luna-Chapter 101
Lily POV
I flinched at the words but I held my tongue.
“You’re not the mate I would have chosen for my son,” she continued coldly. “But Kai made his choice, and as much as I disagree, I have to respect it.”
I swallowed hard, my heart sinking further with every word. I thought the learning sessions with her occasionally meant we were bonding. Guess I was wrong.
“Luna Helen, I-”
“Don’t,” she raised her hand, stopping me mid-sentence. “I’m not here to scold you. I’m here to warn you.”
The air in the car seemed to grow thicker.
“But before I do that,” she continued lowering her voice as if she wanted to tell me a secret, “this situation with the she-wolf is different. It’s dangerous. Well, the woman is not dangerous in the way you might think, but dangerous.”
My brows knitted in confusion. “Dangerous? How?”
Luna Helen’s expression darkened. “You don’t understand the influence someone like her can have over an Alpha. A connection—whether from the past or something more recent – can disrupt everything. Kai has responsibilities to this pack, to every pack member. He cannot afford distractions right now, especially not ones that could jeopardize his leadership.”
My stomach churned. Luna Helen’s words were hinting at a much deeper meaning and were echoing the fear that had been gnawing at me since I first learned about the she-wolf.” 𝒻𝑟ℯℯ𝑤𝑒𝑏𝑛𝘰𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝒸𝑜𝘮
“Do you know who she is?” I asked tentatively. “Do you think she’s... someone from his past?” I asked again, regretting my choice of words.
Luna Helen’s eyes narrowed slightly. “It doesn’t’ matter what they were or who she is or where she came from. What matters is what she could become—a threat to everything Kai has built.”
Through the windshield, I watched as hospital staff moved in and out of the building, their lives continuing normally why my world was tilting on its axis.
I wanted to believe Kai’s feeling for me hadn’t changed, but Luna Helen’s words had planted seeds of doubts that I couldn’t ignore.
“Kai has always had a... protective instinct,” Luna Helen continued. “It’s what makes him a good Alpha. But sometimes, that instinct blinds him. Makes him vulnerable to manipulation.”
I wish she would just tell me in plain words what’s going on.
“You think she’s manipulating him?” I asked again.
She gave me an impatient glare. “I don’t have to spell the words out for you, Lily. I think that woman is very good at appearing helpless when it suits her. And my son...” she paused, choosing her words carefully. “My son sometimes forgets that not everyone deserves his protection.”
The words settled between us like stone dropping into a still lake.
“What do you want me to do?” I asked finally, my voice trembling despite my best efforts to stay composed.
Luna Helen’s lips curled into a faint, calculating smile. “Watch her. Observe how Kai interacts with her. Watch out for signs that she’s trying to lure him away. And if you see anything—anything - that concerns you, you will tell me.”
My heart skipped a beat. The instruction felt like a double-edged sword, an acknowledgment of my role as Kai’s mate, but also a subtle reminder that I was still under scrutiny.
“You want me to spy on her?” I asked in disbelief.
She turned, looking at me directly in my eyes. Her eyes reminded me of Kai. They were the same color as his. “When she wakes up—and she will wake up — watch her carefully. Don’t let her take what’s yours.”
Then she turned away from me.
“Call it protecting your position,” she continued coolly. “If you want to prove yourself worthy of being by Kai’s side, then show me you can handle the challenges that come with it.”
I felt a chill run down my spine. Despite my complicated relationship with Luna Helen, I knew the woman wouldn’t give such a warning without cause.
“Why are you telling me this?”
Her expression softened. “Because despite what you might think, I respect the mate bond. And because...” she hesitated, showing rare uncertainty—something that is not common with her. “Because I’ve seen what she’s capable of before.”
I looked down at my hands, my fingers twisting nervously in my lap. I didn’t like the idea of spying, especially not on someone who was vulnerable and unconscious and not with Kai not wanting my presence, but the Luna’s warning struck a chord. This wasn’t just about my relationship with Kai—it was about the pack, about protecting our future.
“I’ll...keep an eye on things,” I drawled.
Before I could say more, Luna Helen straightened in her seat, her mask of cool indifference sliding back into place.
“That’s all I ask. You can go now.”
I nodded. The Luna tapped on the window of the car, and her driver opened the door for me. I stepped out, the cold air hitting my face and clearing some of the fog in my mind. As I turned back toward the car, Luna Helen leaned out slightly, her voice cutting through the quiet.
“Remember, Lily,” she said, her tone sharp but measured, “Kai’s loyalty is to this pack first and foremost. If you want to remain by his side, you’ll need to prove that your loyalty is just as strong.”
I nodded silently. As I watched her car glide away, I couldn’t shake the feeling that this was just the beginning of something much larger, much more complicated than I’d imagined.
If I was going to face this challenge head long, I need to be strong—not just for myself but for Kai and the pack we both cared about.
But before I do any of that, I need to find out more about Kai. I need to know why his mother was fretting so much about an unconscious woman. I need to understand why Kai said she’s the woman from his dreams. I need to know it all, to understand what exactly is going on.
I reached for my phone in my bag and scrolled through my contacts. If Celeste knew something more about this situation, she would have told me... maybe? But it seemed everyone was trying to protect a particular past.
So, I had just one option... to call someone who might be willing to talk.
I dialled the number and waited.
A second later, a voice responded from the other end.
“Lily...is everything alright? This is a surprise.”
“Yeah,” I chuckled slightly. “Are you busy this evening? Can we meet over a cup of tea?”
There was a slight pause from his end before he replied. “Sure, just text me the place and time. I think I have some spare time.”
“Thank you!” I replied and ended the call.
