Alpha's replacement bride is destined mate-Chapter 165 Attack of the Western Army.
West, Border Battlefield
What a strange night. Klaus thought to himself as he slowly raised his head and cast his gaze into the dark night. The moon seemed to have been so closely enveloped by a thick cloud that its once brilliant light was completely obscured, and not a particle of it was able to penetrate. The surrounding stars also disappeared without a trace, as if they had never existed. The whole sky was like a great black curtain, heavy and depressing, and causing one to feel an unaccountable uneasiness.
The wind blew quietly, carrying a slight coolness, but not able to blow away the dense darkness. The wheat in the fields lay silent in the darkness, as if they, too, had been affected by the eerie atmosphere, and had lost their former vigour. The mountains in the distance became dim, black shadows in the night, like silent beasts, bearing an aura of mystery and danger.
Klaus squinted a little, trying to find a ray of light in the darkness. Yet there was nothing but endless pitch blackness.
At that moment he wanted some whisky. The constant fighting had left him a little tired, and he needed alcohol to stimulate the nerves of his brain. But alcohol was forbidden in the army, so he could only silently take out his cigarette case and proceed to light a cigarette. He put the cigarette to his mouth, bent his head a little, pressed the lighter lightly, and in an instant a little flame shot up.
Klaus lighted his cigarette and drew a deep drag. The red light from the cigarette flickered and flickered in the darkness.
The smoke slowly exhaled from his mouth and died away in the air, as if the weariness of his mind had died away with it.
He squinted a little, feeling the momentary peace of the cigarette. The darkness around him seemed to increase.
The footsteps were approaching, the familiar scent mingled with the smoke of the battle-field, and it could not be any other than Marx.
"What are you doing here?" Marx asked.
Klaus glanced slightly sideways at Marx beside him, and he reached over and pulled another cigarette out of the packet and handed it to Marx. "Have a smoke." Klaus’s voice was low in the stillness of the night.
Marx reached out and took the cigarette, playing lightly with it in his hand. Klaus pressed the lighter, and the flame leaped up again, lighting up their faces.
Marx moved closer to the flame, lit his cigarette, and took a deep drag. The smoke slowly exhaled from his mouth and died away in the darkness.
"At the current rate of march, we’ll reach the Galaxy Pack by tomorrow." Marx took a deep drag on his cigarette, "The current Alpha of the Galaxy pack is said to be the Beta that once was Elijah. I fought that fellow once. "
" How did he fare in the fight?" Klaus asked casually.
"That fellow is as crafty as his master. " Marx said dismissively, "He’s a werewolf but he’s better at avoiding than attacking. I did not expect that Elijah would leave so important a pack in the hands of a coward."
"Do you think Elijah will hold on to the Galaxy pack himself, as he did before?" Klaus with a laugh, said, " He is now the Wolf King of the West, not the Alpha of the Galaxy pack. "
"Then Elijah is done for. "Mark said, "Once we conquer the galaxy cluster, his throne will be reduced to scrap metal."
A wisp of white smoke puffed slowly from Klaus’s nostrils, and his fingers tightened around the cigarette as he said, "Marx, do you think I shall win this one? " Klaus’ voice was low with a hint of uncertainty.
"Why not? " Marx said confidently, "You would have killed Elijah last time, but for Maya... "
"I should not have been distracted if Maya had not suddenly appeared on the scene. " Klaus interrupted Marx, the memories of what had happened came flooding back, "Honestly, I still don’t understand how Maya got to the battlefield in the first place. "
Klaus still cannot find Maya’s killer. The question had been in him like a shadow that could not be dispelled.
Marx took a last drag on his cigarette and stomped on it.
" This is not the time for answers, " he said. "We have to focus on the fight at hand." Marx reminded Klaus.
" I know."Klaus looked out into the dark night with a sense of foreboding.
" What’s your concern? " asked Marx, puzzled.
Klaus sighed softly, "It is Emily."
"Are you afraid that Emily will come looking for you in the field, as Maya did? " Marx shook his head, "I do not think Emily would do that. While she is brave, she is not blind."
" Maybe."Klaus reassured himself silently in his mind. After all, Emily had solemnly promised not to be a distraction to him in the field. Besides, he hasn’t contacted Emily in the last few days, and she hasn’t contacted him.
But for some reason Klaus’s heart was always on the edge, and a feeling of uneasiness followed him about, and he pondered over it again and again, but he never understood what he really feared.
While Klaus and Marx were quietly musing over the battle of the morrow, a blinding light suddenly flashed across the dark and silent sky. The light, like a flash of lightning, stung their eyes for an instant.
Klaus’s nerves tightened in an instant, and he and Marx looked up at the same moment. Only the sight of a cannonball, like a blazing meteor, tearing through the heavy night sky at breakneck speed, bringing with it a chilling aura of death. The sound of that shell cutting through the air was sharp and ear-piercing, as if it were the roar of the god of death.
"There’s an attack! " Klaus shouted, his voice full of shock and decision. Almost by instinct, in a swift and decisive movement, he tackled Marx, who was beside him, to the ground.
Just as they hit the ground, the shell exploded. The force of that explosion was like that of a raging beast, sending forth a powerful shock wave. The force of the impact lifted everything around them mercilessly, earth and rocks flew about like bullets, and the thick smoke spread out so rapidly that it seemed as if a thick curtain of gray covered the whole world. The farm, which had been peaceful and quiet, was at that moment a ruin. At one point the field was blown open in huge craters, with the remains of houses scattered around and the crackling of burning flames.
Klaus and Marx struggled to their feet, their faces covered in dust and smudges of smoke. There was anger and alarm in the eyes of both men, a violent reaction to surprise.
Klaus’s face was as sullen as the sky before a storm, and terrible in the extreme. He had never expected a surprise attack by the Western army at such a time, and it completely upset his plans. 𝕗𝕣𝐞𝐞𝘄𝐞𝚋𝚗𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗹.𝚌𝕠𝚖
"Marx, immediately organise the soldiers to counterattack!" Klaus commanded in a harsh voice.
Marx did not hesitate for a moment. Marx did not hesitate; he moved swiftly. He blew his rallying horn with great force, and its shrill note seemed especially loud in the confusion of the field, as if it had been a battle-horn; Even as he shouted the names of the soldiers, his voice was full of eagerness and determination.
Soon the soldiers were pouring out from all quarters, their faces full of panic and determination. The men soon took up their arms, and, with the fire of battle in their eyes, prepared to meet the enemy.
At this moment the shells of the Western army continued to rain down, and the whole farm was plunged in a sea of flame. Burning flames lit up the night sky as if it were a vision from hell. Klaus and Marx led the men around to avoid the shells, sometimes falling to the ground and sometimes running fast. Each falling shell brought a sharp jolt and a loud crash.
"Marx, follow me!" Klaus bellowed, his automatic rifle gripped tightly in his hand, as he charged first in the direction of the Western army. Marx did not hesitate to follow close behind, also bearing his rifle, his eyes steady and resolute.
Seeing that Klaus was charging ahead, the soldiers also shouted, and took courage to follow him. Klaus led the men forward, dodging the falling shells as nimbly as possible.
As they approached the Western positions, the heat-seeking weapons fire from both sides was instantly intermingled. The bullets, weaving through the air like dense raindrops, gave off a shrill whistle. The noise of the firing was deafening, and the fire of the explosions rose and fell, lighting up the whole field. Dirt and rocks were blown up high and fell in droves.
Klaus and Marx directed the men to seek cover while organising a counter-attack. The artillerymen quickly adjusted their guns and took aim at the western position, firing shell after shell.
Not to be outdone, the Westerners poured on the heat. Rockets, mortars, and various other weapons were fired in unison, and the field was so thick with smoke that it was almost impossible to see what was in front of them.
"Aim at their artillery positions!" Klaus ordered loudly. The men then worked in unison, constantly adjusting their firing angles in an attempt to disrupt the Western Army’s fire.
Under the stormy attack of the Northern troops, the fire of the Western army was gradually dying down, like a flame about to be extinguished. Their formation began to be confused and their morale plummeted like a collapsing mountain.
In the end, the Westerners could no longer hold out under the pressure and fled like frightened sheep.
Klaus looked at the fleeing rear of the Western army, and his eyes flashed with a cold, star-like light, full of resolution and firmness.
"Keep chasing them.!" His low, powerful voice echoed through the night like the roar of a war drum.
The Northern army at once launched a pursuit like a raging tide. The men were like an inexorable torrent of steel as they fought their way forward in the direction from which the Western army had fled.
