Alpha's replacement bride is destined mate-Chapter 171: Don’t go looking for me if I can’t come back
Emily and Carl are sheltering in a bomb shelter underneath the safe house as the sound of bombardment from the ground continues. Again and again the strong tremors rang in Emily’s ears, and for the moment she felt helpless and discouraged.
She shuddered to think how many were out there under fire, members of the PACK, her men.
And whether their Luna is now holed up in a bomb shelter, and whether those who pledged their allegiance to her are regretting it.
I am such a worthless Luna. Emily mentally cursed herself that I should die with them.
The light in the shelter was dim and feeble, and the pale yellow glow wrapped around Emily as she crouched on the ground. She wrapped her hands about her knees and did not move a muscle. Emily’s cheeks were wet with tears, and she was biting her lower lip to keep from making any noise.
" When the enemy finished their shelling, they went into the pack looking for the remaining people alive." Carl sat beside Emily, his head against the cold wall, his voice echoing through the shelter. " We have to get out of here before the enemy finds us."
Emily did not respond to Carl; grief was taking over her mind, and she was losing the power of thinking.
" Luna, are you listening to me?"
Carl turned to Emily and sighed when he saw the tear tracks on Emily’s face, " Don’t blame yourself, this is war."
" But those people out there aren’t really our enemies. They are northerners, too. " Emily thought that only the Western Army would attack them, but it was the Northerners who ended up attacking them. 𝗳𝐫𝚎𝗲𝚠𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝘃𝚎𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝗺
While the Northerners were fighting the Westerners at the front, the Wolves of the North were slaughtering their countrymen at the back. How ironic that sounds.
"When they turn their cannon fodder on us, they are our enemy. " Carl slammed his fist into the wall," They are traitors!"
Traitors? Emily’s head shot up as she realized at last why Dyson had sent an attack on the Green Forest pack, for it was a reserve military area. Cutting down the Northern Army’s reserves was Dyson’s real goal.
"So it was Dyson who colluded with the Western Army. " Emily pondered uneasily as Klaus led the Northern Army to fight the Western Army in the front while Dyson snuck in the back.
It’s a conspiracy!
"We must tell the King what is happening here as soon as possible. " Carl said, "Otherwise not only will the border be lost, but even the Northern army at the front will be in danger."
"How are we going to get out of here? " Emily noticed that the sound of bombardment outside began to diminish. Does this mean that the enemy’s bombardment is coming to an end?
"We’ll go out this way. " Carl said, "When Alpha Andrew built the safe house, he opened up the air raid shelter below, and there’s a way to get to the outside of the pack."
"There are three safe houses in the pack, so maybe there are others hiding in the bomb shelter. "Emily stood up with her hand on the uneven wall as she glanced at the other side of the bomb shelter, "We need to find the other survivors."
Dolly, Susan, Mina, and Maggie, you must live, prayed Emily.
" Luna." Carl said softly, " Please forgive me for what I said to you outside earlier. I didn’t mean to offend you—"
"You did the right thing. " Emily’s eyes flashed with a hint of sadness," If it wasn’t for you, I’d probably be dead."
" It was a prepared surprise attack, we didn’t have any chance to fight back." Carl said, " We have to get out of here alive."
"You’re right. " Emily took a deep breath, "Let’s go."
Emily and Carl were walking down the passage of the bomb shelter, and their footsteps sounded distinctly in the silence of the passage. The air was dull and oppressive, and there was an air of tension and uneasiness. The passage was dimly lighted, with only a few feeble emergency lights throwing a dim light that barely illuminated the winding road ahead.
At that moment the sound of a light footfall reached Emily’s ears. "Stop," Carl reminded her.
Then Carl walked alone toward the corner in front, his steps so soft that they made little noise.
Emily saw Carl standing at right angles to the corner, his body pressed against the wall, as if he were one with the darkness. Carl’s eyes were downcast as he stared at a shadowy figure on the floor. The shadows wavered like mysterious ghosts in the dim light.
As the shadow approached the corner, Carl pushed the man against the wall with great speed. The movement was swift and decisive, as if a flash of lightning had passed through it. There was a muffled thud, and the man’s body struck the wall violently. Then Emily heard Carl’s surprised voice, "Susan."
"You’re hurting me, Carl. " Susan complained, rubbing her sore shoulder from the fall with a pained expression.
"Sorry, I didn’t realize it was you. " Carl said guiltily, "Let me check you for injuries."
" I’m fine." Susan declined Carl’s kind offer.
" Susan, where are Dolly and the princesses?" Emily asked eagerly.
" They’re fine." Susan replied, " We hid in the safe house before the shells fell, and now they’re all in the bomb shelter. I found the others."
Emily felt a slight sense of relief at the news that there were other survivors. "How many survivors are there? " Emily asked.
"I’ve only found five so far. " Susan said, "If we search along the tunnels, we might be able to find more survivors."
"What location are those people in? "Carl asked.
"They’re all clustered in the bomb shelter under safe house number three. " Susan said, "Do you need me to take you there?"
Emily nods. Soon Susan led her and Carl to where they were. The same air of tension and uneasiness pervaded the place, and the faint light barely illumined the faces of the group.
"Emily, you’re not dead. " As soon as Mina saw Emily, she jumped on her excitedly, "I almost thought I would never see you again."
" The shells almost killed us, if we had been any later. " Maggie scratched her hand through her tousled hair as a strand of shell ash landed on her shoulder.
"Emily. " Dolly came over and carefully surveyed Emily’s body, she asked with concern," Are you hurt?"
"I’m fine. "Emily looked at the other members sitting on the ground. They all had abrasions on their faces and arms to varying degrees. Fortunately, those wounds did not injure the vital organs. In addition, werewolves have the ability to heal themselves, with minor wounds healing themselves quickly in a short time.
Emily looked at the group and knew she had to stand up and be the backbone of the group. She was Luna. She is responsible for the lives of these people.
"Susan, you and Carl go find the other survivors and bring them here. " Emily ordered, "Dolly, you stay here and take care of the others. I’m going to see what’s going on out there."
"It’s too dangerous out there, let me go. "Carl said.
"It’s my job. "Emily’s voice was irresistible, "Just do what I say."
Carl hesitated, his eyes expressive of concern for Emily, but seeing her undeniable look, he could only submit helplessly. "Yes, Luna."
"If I don’t return, you are not allowed to go looking for me." Emily looked at every one with determination and firmness in her eyes. She was prepared for the worst.
"Susan will be in charge of getting you out of here, and you must obey Susan’s orders. Is that understood?"
After seeing everyone nod, Emily said to Susan and Carl, "Let’s split up."
