Alpha's replacement bride is destined mate-Chapter 182 Who am I?
Emily awoke feeling as if her body were heavy.
Her head ached, too. She felt as if she herself had had a long, long dream, and could not remember all that had passed in it.
Slowly she rose and looked about her blankly. " Where is this place?" Emily muttered to herself; her mind was a blank; everything here was foreign to her.
The early morning sunlight streamed through the windows, and the chirping of birds could be heard outside. Emily got out of bed, barefoot, and made her way step by step to the balcony. The gentle sunlight fell upon her as she took deep breaths, while she tried to find some of the memories in her brain.
Yet she could find nothing, not even the slightest fragment of a memory. She did not know where the place was, she did not know why she was here, she did not even remember her name.
" Why is this happening?" Emily was suddenly seized with an unaccountable alarm. How could she not even remember who she was?
At that moment she heard a slight push at the door from without, and then she saw a man with long black hair coming towards her. " You awake?" said the man gently.
" Who are you?" Emily asked. As the man approached her, she unconsciously stepped back until her back touched the iron railing of the veranda.
A cold sensation came over her, and she looked warily at the man before her. " Do you recognize me?"
" Of course." The man stood in front of her at a distance of five feet. He looked at her with those soft gray eyes.
" Emily, you’re going to catch a cold standing here." The man said, holding out his hand, " Let me take you back to your room, ok?"
"My name is Emily? " She asked.
"Yes. " The man replied.
"And who are you? " she continued.
"My name is Elijah."
"Elijah. Elijah... " Emily repeated the name over and over again as she attempted to jog the memories of the name in her mind, but all she got was a blank.
" Where is this place and why am I here? Who are you? " Emily’s tone was a little anxious, not being able to remember everything, she was feeling uneasy about everything around her, including the man in front of her.
" Take it easy Emily. " The man soothed softly, "This is my palace. You are sick and recuperating here."
"This is your palace?" Emily couldn’t believe it, "So you’re the king?"
The man nodded.
"Then what is our relationship? " Emily said carefully, sizing up the man only to see a light smile on his handsome face.
"You are my fiancee, have you forgotten?"
"I’m yours...Fiancee? " Emily’s eyes widened, "Is this true?"
"As a king, why would I lie to you?" Elijah said. He looked straight at Emily, and there was a hint of confidence and certainty in his eyes that seemed to tell Emily that this was the truth.
Suddenly Emily felt a headache, as if millions of sharp needles were jabbing at her head at the same time. She immediately covered her head and groaned in pain.
It was as if her brain were going to explode, her body was trembling slightly, and the pain was so intense that she could barely stand.
"Emily, are you okay? " Elijah held her up just in time as she almost fell. He picked her up and carried her across the room and into the chamber.
She panted helplessly against Elijah’s arms, the pain coming and going like lightning.
When Elijah laid her down on the bed, she felt sick, though the pain was gone. It was as if a great stone had fallen upon her breast, and she could scarcely breathe, so Elijah brought her a pillow to lean upon.
" Do you feel better now? " Elijah asked. He leaned over her, and thoughtfully laid the sheet over her.
"Yes. " Emily leaned her back against the pillow as she breathed slowly.
"I’m going to get the doctor to check you out. " Elijah said, "Just stay in bed and don’t come down ok?"
Emily nods. Elijah then leaves the room and soon returns with a man. When the hunched man in the gray tunic stepped into the room, Emily smelt a foul odor emanating from him.
Resisting the urge to vomit, Emily deliberately averted her eyes from the man’s ugly face. For his face disgusted her as much as the smell of his body.
" Miss Emily, are you feeling sick?" The man’s voice was hoarse and unpleasant.
" My head hurts just now. " Emily replied briefly.
"Just a headache?"
"And chest tightness."
"The headache and chest tightness you’re feeling is due to the after effects of being sick, just take a pill and you’ll be fine." The man allegedly took a white bottle from a black pill box, then a red pill and handed it to Emily.
Emily is given the red pill and hesitates whether to take it. After all, the man did not look like a regular doctor; he looked more like one of those evil sorcerers who appear at the ceremonies that are held.
" Emily, take the pill." Elijah urged her, " It’s good for you."
Emily swallowed the pill helplessly, a bitter taste filling her mouth, and as she did so the tightness in her chest and nausea vanished instantly.
Could he really be a doctor? Emily glanced at the ugly man with suspicious eyes. She rather believed that he was one of those necromancers who know witchcraft.
"Emily, You need to get better soon. " Elijah gazed deeply at her, "When you’re better, we’ll have a wedding."
" What?" Emily was surprised, " We’re going to have a wedding?"
" Of course. " Elijah smiled slightly, "You’re my fiancee, we have to get married."
"But..." A strong drowsiness came over Emily, her head felt dizzy, her eyelids grew heavy, she wanted to say something, but she had not the strength to open her mouth. The drowsiness came upon her like a rushing tide, overwhelming her in an instant, and leaving her powerless to resist.
" Sleep, Emily." Elijah took her in his arms, " I will stay with you."
Emily shivered a little, and felt as cold as ice, in spite of the warmth that Elijah’s embrace should have afforded. It was as if the cold had risen from the depths of her heart and spread through her body, causing her to shiver uncontrollably.
Elijah’s soft voice sounded so far away and strange, as if it came from another world, that it could not touch her heart or dispel the fear and confusion in her brain.
Gradually her consciousness dimmed, and her eyelids grew heavier and heavier, as if some invisible force were drawing her, dragging her into the depths of darkness. Everything around her grew dim, and she struggled to stay awake, to find out what the hell was going on, but the drowsiness and the chills made her powerless.
At last Emily’s eyes slowly closed as she drifted off to sleep.
