Alpha's replacement bride is destined mate-Chapter 189 Don’t force me
" What?" Emily broke free from Elijah’s embrace, she froze and looked at him, " Marriage?"
" I remember the last time I told you, we had to get married." Elijah said, "Did you think I was joking?"
He said they had to get married and Emily thought to herself: He made that decision without even asking me if I wanted it.
Perhaps the story he told was true. They had loved each other once, and he had lost an arm for her sake. But that did not mean that he had the right to make any decision for her.
The despotism of his manner made her revolt a little.
"Elijah, is it possible to take things slow about us getting married? " Emily said in a tentative tone, "Can we wait until we get to know each other better before we think about getting married?"
Elijah’s face flashed with an imperceptible hint of displeasure, " Emily, everything I’ve done has been to be with you. Now you want me to wait. No, I don’t want to wait any longer."
" But I’m not ready." Emily gets up from the couch in an attempt to escape.
" You can’t force me, Elijah."
Elijah was sitting on the sofa, looking up at Emily, his gaze searching.
"I didn’t force you to marry me, Emily." Elijah’s voice was a little cold, "You promised to marry me, that was a promise we made together."
"But I lost my memory. I.... " Emily stammered.
"It’s okay, Emily," Elijah slowly stood up, he stroked Emily’s hair.
" When we get married, we’ll have plenty of time to get to know each other." Elijah spoke as if he were calming a tantruming child, " I will prove to you that I am a good husband. Trust me."
" Elijah, I don’t want to talk about marriage right now."
" Am I not good enough?" Elijah asked.
"No. " Emily turned her head to the side to avoid him.
"What do you want Emily?" Elijah grabbed Emily’s shoulders with both hands so they were face to face." Pearls or diamonds? Just say the word and I’ll give it to you."
"Neither. " Emily said, "I want ..."
"What do you want?"
"Freedom. " Emily finally said the word.
"Elijah, I don’t like it here. I do not like the way the maids always stare at me as if I were a prisoner, and I do not like the white dresses you have chosen for me. " Emily looked straight into Elijah’s eyes as she mustered up the courage to say," I don’t like it."
" So you don’t like me, right?" Elijah’s face instantly turned somber, " Tell me the truth."
"I don’t know, Elijah. " Emily said sternly," Stop pressuring me, will you?"
" Then how long do you want me to wait?" Elijah asked patiently, " A week or a year? At least tell me a deadline, Emily, I don’t want to hear uncertain answers."
" I don’t know. "Emily was annoyed by the questioning, and she broke away from Elijah’s hands and turned to leave. But she had not gone two steps when her head suddenly throbbed with a vague pain.
The pain increased, and she pressed her hands to her head in an effort to soothe it, but it did not help at all. The pain caused her body to wobble so that she could hardly stand.
" Emily, what’s wrong with you?" Elijah rushed to support her as he asked with concern, " Are you having another headache?"
" My head." Emily was in so much pain that she could scarcely speak.
" I’ll take you to bed." Elijah picked Emily up and led her into the bedroom. He laid her on the bed and immediately got her a pill.
" Take this pill." Elijah put the pill in Emily’s mouth and told her to take it.
Emily swallowed the pills, and after a while the headache finally subsided. She breathed slowly, and the intense lethargy that had enveloped her returned with the same rapidity as on the previous occasion.
"Sleep, Emily." Elijah whispered in her ear, "When you wake up, there will be no more pain whatsoever."
Presently Emily closed her eyes and drifted off to sleep.
...
When Emily falls asleep, Elijah exits the room. He resumed his usual sullen appearance, and then he turned and walked away in the direction of the Black Tower.
The Black Tower, shrouded in gloom, looked like an eerie beast standing in the corner of the castle. Two guards were standing outside the door, and as soon as they saw Elijah they immediately saluted him.
"Open the door. " Elijah ordered.
The two guards at once opened the door, and the moment Elijah stepped into the dark tower, the smell of dampness and decay met him. He walked slowly up the steps, the sound of his footsteps echoing through the tower with each step he took.
Finally, he reached the cell where Haley was being held. The cell was made of heavy iron pillars, resembling a giant aviary, and Elijah stood outside the cell door, looking through the gaps between the pillars to see Haley inside.
Haley was cowering in a corner, chained at the waist, a faint light filtering through the cell window. It was the only light in the cell.
Elijah looked at her coldly and unmercifully. Haley slowly looked up, and the moment she saw Elijah, her eyes filled with fear and anger.
"Elijah... Why are you doing this to me?" Haley’s voice was hoarse and feeble. She rose slowly, her chains dragging on the ground with the sound of metal scraping against metal.
Elijah did not answer her, but stood silent, his eyes as cold as the darkness of this gloomy tower. Haley walked until she was almost five feet from Elijah and stopped, the chains around her waist restricting her from continuing.
"I’m going to marry Emily. " Elijah’s tone was calm and cold.
"Why are you telling me about this? " Haley said weakly, "You want me to give up on you, do you?"
"I never loved you, Haley."
" I know."
" Thank you for everything you’ve ever done for me, now you can rest." said Elijah, as he prepared to turn away, his figure cold and determined in the low light.
Haley immediately called out to him.
"Elijah, Emily is not going to marry you. " Haley said, "I’ve seen her living with Klaus, and it’s Klaus she loves."
Elijah said, " Klaus is dead and Emily has forgotten him."
"But that doesn’t mean she’ll accept you. " Haley said," Do you think she’ll be coaxed by you like a fool? Once Emily learns your true colors, she’ll do anything to get away from you."
" My true colors?" Elijah’s gaze was like death on Haley, " What are my true colors?"
"You are a selfish and heartless man who cares more about power than anything else." Haley ruthlessly exposed Elijah’s true colors, "You murdered your brother and slept with your own sister, Elijah. Do you think Emily would love a man like you?"
Elijah was silent, and there was a hint of anger in those gray eyes.
" I used to be Emily’s maid, I know that woman better than you do." Haley said with certainty, " No matter how much you fake it, you won’t be able to get her heart. Because you will not change for her, and Klaus will. That’s the difference between you."
"Don’t mention Klaus to me. " Elijah snarled.
" Elijah, you and Emily are from two different worlds. You won’t be happy together." Haley persuaded her brother, " We are kindred spirits, why did you choose Emily over me?"
" Because I’m tired." Elijah’s palm struck the cage so hard that the dull thud reverberated through the cell.
"Even demons who have spent time in hell long for the light. " Elijah shouted from his heart, "I need to be loved too."
Haley froze for a few seconds at these words. Then she let out a mocking laugh, " Love?" Haley’s white hair flew behind her, " Do you really love her? Are you willing to give up your throne for her?"
Elijah was silent, he had never thought about it before, Haley answered in a flash, "You would never give up your throne for Emily. You would even sacrifice her for your throne."
" Shut up Haley." Elijah looked angrily at Haley, and he turned away determinedly.
" Elijah, I curse you." Haley’s voice sounded behind him, "One day you will lose everything, including Emily."
Elijah quickened his pace, and he came out of the Black Tower as quickly as if he had been on the run. The moment he stepped out of the Black Tower, Haley’s voice was still ringing in his ears.
Haley’s mocking laugh disturbed him, and when at last he recovered himself, he returned to the palace.
He went straight to Emily’s room, and as he stepped into the bedroom Emily happened to be awake.
" Elijah. " Emily, who had just woken up, was a little surprised to see Elijah’s presence.
" I thought you said you wanted to get to know me better." Elijah went to Emily’s side of the bed, and as he gazed down at her the old gentleness left his eyes.
"Then I’ll show you the real me" He said.
