Alpha's replacement bride is destined mate-Chapter 194 She’s Pregnant
Elijah carried Emily to her chamber in the bedroom. Dr. Court arrived soon after, and examined Emily with an air of delicacy.
"Ms. Emily, Have you had your period this month? " The doctor asked.
Emily lay on the bed and shook her head feebly.
"And did you get your period last month?"
Emily shook her head again.
"Do you remember the last time you had your period? " the doctor continued to ask.
It seemed to Emily, as she pondered, that she had not had a period since she awoke, and she could not remember exactly when her last period had been.
" I don’t remember." Emily replied.
" What’s wrong with her?" Elijah asked in a low voice as he stood by, " Is she poisoned?"
" Ms. Emily shows no signs of poisoning. Your Majesty." said the doctor, respectfully.
" Then why is she vomiting?" Elijah’s brow was furrowed, and his eyes were full of doubt and concern.
" She should be pregnant." The doctor replied.
" What do you mean?" Elijah wore a shocked expression as he double checked with the doctor, " Is she really pregnant?"
" We can give Ms. Emily a pregnancy test, if you need more accurate results."
" Do it now." Elijah said.
" Yes, Your Majesty. " The doctor quickly called for a nurse. The nursemaid took a pregnancy test and accompanied Emily to the bathroom.
Ten minutes later, the doctor glanced at the two red lines on the pregnancy test. He said to Elijah in a positive tone, "Ms. Emily is indeed pregnant."
At this news Emily looked at Elijah in surprise, only to see that his face was expressionless, and that his gray eyes seemed to hide some complex emotion.
The doctor and the nurse looked a little bewildered. They did not know whether the news of Emily’s pregnancy would be good or bad for Elijah. After all, no one could guess the king’s thoughts.
There was a moment’s silence in the room.
After a while, Elijah spoke, "Good. " His tone was calm and no emotion could be heard.
"From today onwards, you will come to check Miss Emily’s body every day, and I will not allow anything to happen to her body. Do you understand?"
" Yes, Your Majesty." replied the doctor earnestly.
" Now, you may leave." Elijah said. He waved them away. The doctor and nurse, amazed, hastily gathered up their belongings and respectfully left the room.
After the doctor and nurse left the room, Emily asked tentatively, " You don’t look happy. Do you not like babies?"
" No. I’m happy." Elijah’s face betrayed not the slightest expression of joy, and his eyes remained as still as water. It was not what a father-to-be should look like.
"But the look on your face tells me you don’t like babies. " Emily frowned slightly, the unease in her heart growing stronger. She could not understand why Elijah should react in this way. This new life that was coming was supposed to be their shared joy, but now Elijah’s attitude was confusing and worrying to her.
"Of course, I love babies. " Elijah’s tone suddenly became softer as he walked over and stroked Emily’s hand, "I just never thought I’d have a child of my own."
He looked at her fondly, "Emily, since you’re pregnant. I think we should get married as soon as possible."
"But you promised me that you could take your time about us getting married. " Emily showed a difficult look.
"Do you want this baby to be a bastard? " Elijah coaxed her in a low voice, "This baby is our child, and he deserves to bear my last name. Emily, do what’s best for the baby.. Will you marry me?"
Emily hesitated, her mind conflicted, unsure how to answer the question. All this time Elijah had been very good to her. But Emily knew very well in her heart that she did not want to marry Elijah at all.
Emily pretends to pander to Elijah, partly to keep him from punishing the innocent. On the other hand, she was secretly wondering if she should leave Elijah.
For up to this moment she could not have really loved the man.
But things are different now. Emily is pregnant. Elijah was the father of the infant. She could not be selfish enough to take away Elijah’s right to be a father.
In addition, illegitimate children are generally not accepted by any pack in the pack, and their status is as low as that of an omega wolf.
Emily could not care for her own feelings, nor for the future of the baby. She could not be a selfish mother.
" Emily, marry me." Elijah whispered in Emily’s ear as he laid his palm lightly on the small of her back to feel the new life in her belly. " Trust me, I will be a good husband and father."
Emily wrestled with this for a moment. She sighed softly, " yes."
Elijah gave a satisfied smile, "Get some rest, I have business to attend to. I’ll be back with you when I’m done with my work, ok?"
Emily nodded. Just as Elijah was about to leave the bedroom, he thoughtfully covered her with a blanket. Emily suddenly remembered the maid who had made the dessert.
"Elijah." Emily called out to him.
"Yes? " Elijah turned around.
"Can you order the maid named Dolly to be released? " Emily said, "My vomiting had nothing to do with the food she made, don’t punish her ok?"
"Ok. I will order her to be released."
Emily breathed a sigh of relief at Elijah’s words. Almost another innocent person was hurt because of her.
"Get some rest. " Elijah said, turning off the bedroom light before he left the room.
........
Elijah went into the study with a heavy step, and the door slammed behind him with a dull thud. As soon as he entered the study, the remaining tenderness in his eyes vanished in an instant without a trace, like the last gleam of light swallowed up in darkness. In its place was an endless fury like a raging wave.
His eye fell upon an exquisite glass ornament, which shone brightly in the light, but which, for the moment, was like a thorn in his eye. He clutched violently at the glass ornament, and with a vigorous swing of his arm he smashed it violently against the wall. It was accompanied by a crisp, ear-piercing sound of shattering glass, shards of which were scattered and splattered in every direction, just as his sanity had been shattered.
He paced back and forth in the room, cursing the dead Klaus under his breath. Every word felt as if it were being squeezed between his teeth, full of resentment. "If it wasn’t for marrying Emily, I never would have allowed Klaus’s child to survive in this world." His voice echoed through the empty study with a complicated mixture of resentment and anger. The presence of this child, like a trick of fate, had put him in a quandary.
Now he will not only have to give Klaus’s child legal status, he will also have to let the child use his last name. It was a great disgrace to him, but he had no choice. For he could not let Emily know that the baby’s real father was not him, and he could not bear the consequences of losing Emily. The anger in him burned more fiercely at the thought.
"Maybe I can raise that baby to be an assassin, like I was when I was little." Elijah sneered. That would be a good idea. If the baby becomes an assassin, then he will be in control of the child’s fate, and it will be a form of revenge against Klaus.
When at last Elijah had given vent to the fury of his heart, he went to his desk like a tired beast. He picked up his mobile phone and deftly dialed the secretary general’s number. When the secretary general answered the phone, Elijah gave the secretary general a direct order, "Make an official announcement tomorrow that I’m getting married."
"Tomorrow?" The Secretary General asked uncertainly, "Are you sure? Your Majesty."
"Of course." Elijah said, "And I’m going to have a big wedding. The sooner the better."
"Yes, Your Majesty." The secretary-general said.
After Elijah hung up, he went to the liquor cabinet and opened a bottle of vodka. The clear liquid was sloshing about in the bottle as if it were his mixed emotions at the moment. He was sitting alone on the sofa by the window, and the night was like a black curtain outside. He sipped the mulled wine in silence, each sip seeming to swallow up his misery and helplessness.
Tonight was the first time he had not slept with Emily.
