Alpha's replacement bride is destined mate-Chapter 231: You shall pay for his death
Dolly dug into the wood, and she could sense her mate close at hand. " Hurry up and get him." Dolly’s wolf urged her eagerly in her brain, and her voice was full of excitement and longing.
" Calm down, lady." Dolly told her wolf, " He’s nearby."
She closed her eyes a little, and concentrated all her energy on trying to catch that pheromone in the air, to find out where it was leading her.
Just as Dolly was about to make a determined movement deeper into the woods, a tall, erect figure suddenly appeared before her like a phantom. The shadows of the trees, swaying and interwoven as if they were mischievous spirits, playfully obscured his face, and only dimly revealed his stalwart silhouette. The man stood silent before Dolly, his deep eyes shining with a blazing brightness in the darkness, like the brightest stars in the night sky, deep and entrancing.
"Is that you?" The man’s magnetic voice echoed lazily through the quiet woods, each word like a gentle hand, gently tugging at Dolly’s heart-strings, causing the lake of her heart to ripple with layers of ripples and to quicken involuntarily.
"Yes." Dolly almost blurted it out, a hint of uncontrollable excitement and anticipation in her voice, her gaze fixed on the man before her, as if the whole world were left to him for the moment.
In the next second they were running towards each other almost simultaneously. Just as Dolly was about to embrace her mate, the man suddenly stopped five paces away.
The man’s eyes wandered to Dolly’s wounded leg, and his handsome face looked a little cold in the moonlight.
"I’m sorry, is your leg injured or are you born with a disability? " The man’s voice was soft with a hint of doubt.
"I..." Dolly’s face flamed as if she had been slapped. Her original excitement slowly subsided.
Should I tell him the truth? Dolly hesitated.
"I got a gunshot wound in my leg." Dolly answered truthfully, " So can’t walk like a normal person."
As Dolly finished her sentence, she bowed her head subconsciously from low self-esteem. The strong aura that emanated from the man told her that he was by no means a lowly Omega, but a higher Beta or Alpha.
I do not blame him if he rejects me. Dolly assumed the worst, after all no werewolf would want a physically disabled mate.
" I’m sorry, I need a physically able-bodied mate," the man’s words pierced Dolly’s heart like an ice pick, " Because I’m the heir to the pack, and if my Luna is a disabled person, I’m going to be——"
"I know. " Dolly interrupted the man. She had already guessed what the man would say next.
He feared that he would be dishonored by the pack if he accepted a physically disabled woman as Luna.
"Just reject me. " Dolly said decisively.
The man’s gaze was somewhat startled; He did not seem to expect that Dolly would say anything like that so dryly.
"I know it’s unfair to you, but I have my reasons. " The man looked at Dolly with some guilt, "What compensation do you wish to receive? I will try my best to fulfill you."
" Compensation?" Dolly sneered, " Do you think your compensation can make up for the pain I am going to suffer? I do not want any compensation from you. If you want to reject me, just say so."
Dolly’s eyes reddened, but she forced herself to keep back the tears. She wanted to preserve the last shred of her self-respect in the presence of this man.
After a short silence, the man spoke, "Give me your name."
"Dolly Jones. " Dolly’s voice trembled a little. The next moment she was about to suffer the indignity of being rejected by mate. The agony of the unknown made her squeamish, and she wondered whether she could bear it alone.
Perhaps I am going to die. Grief had come over her before the time, and tears were on the point of overflowing her eyes.
" I, Kevin Brown, refuse Dolly Jones to be my mate." the man said decisively.
"I, Dolly Jones, accept Kevin Brown’s rejection. " As Dolly finished the sentence, her heart was in immense pain as if she had been stabbed hard with a knife.
The feeling of intense pain was like a raging black tide that was rapidly spreading through Dolly’s whole frame. Every inch of her skin felt as if it were on fire, and it seemed as if a thousand razor-sharp and poisonous blades were cutting viciously into every part of her body, penetrating to the very bone and marrow, and piercing to the very soul.
Dolly could bear the pain no longer; her legs went limp, and the whole person fell straight to the ground like a broken kite. The heart-rending roar from the depths of her soul broke through the silence of the woods, startling the birds that perched on the branches and fluttered about.
The man’s face was similarly clouded with a look of anguish. His lips trembled a little, and his eyes were full of importunity and reluctance, but in an instant the resolution was hard as steel at the bottom of his eyes. He looked long and hard at Dolly, who was curled up in a miserable ball on the ground, and at last he turned resolutely, without a flicker of hesitation on his back.
The figure of the man moved farther and farther away, and was gradually swallowed up in the darkness of the wood, until it disappeared altogether. Yet the peculiar odour of the woods that belonged to him still lingered like a ghost, and penetrated Dolly’s nostrils, as though remorselessly reminding her of what she had just suffered. Dolly clenched her lower lip until the blood oozed from it, and with a will of tenacity she endured the pain that almost destroyed her, and tried to rise from the ground and escape from the place where her heart had been broken.
But at this moment it was as if all the strength of her body had been drained from her, and she was quite unable to rise. Just as she was feeling desperate, Marx unexpectedly appeared before her.
" Dolly, what happened to you? " Marx rushed to Dolly’s side with an arrow step, he crouched down and asked eagerly.
"I.. My mate rejected me. " Dolly replied in a weak voice." Please.... Take me out of here."
"Don’t worry, I’ll get you out of here now." Marx carefully lifted Dolly gently off the ground.
Just as he was stepping out of the wood with Dolly in his arms, Klaus suddenly appeared like a dark shadow, blocking their path.
" Where is Emily?" Klaus asked anxiously.
" Emily?" Dolly tried to concentrate on Klaus’s question, but her thoughts were a jumble.
"I.. I don’t know where she is."
" Didn’t I tell you to stay with her until I got back?" Klaus’s chest rose and fell violently, and his hands clenched into fists as if he were struggling to contain his emotions.
" Klaus, Dolly was just rejected by her mate." Marx yelled at Klaus without flinching, " Now she’s in pain, stop pushing her."
" Has Emily disappeared?" Dolly asked, with a pained face.
" Her cellphone is off." Klaus’ eyes were troubled, " I haven’t seen her at home either."
" Marx, put me down." Dolly tried to free herself from Marx’s embrace, wriggling slightly, her hands pushing feebly against his chest. She was too weak at the moment, however, to make such a struggle seem futile.
" I’m going to find Emily," Dolly said.
Marx ignored her and spoke calmly to Klaus, " Klaus, You call Adam right now, have him secure all exits for the pack. I will assist you in finding Emily once I have settled Dolly."
" No. You stay with Dolly." Klaus’ tone was undeniable, " I will find Emily."
said Klaus, and turned to go. The hurried footsteps drifted away in the stillness of the night, until they were entirely swallowed up in the darkness, leaving Marx and Dolly standing where they were, the air heavy with gravity and uneasiness.
..............
Emily only felt that her head was dizzy, as if millions of tiny ants were crawling uncontrollably through it. Slowly she opened her eyes, and all that came into them was a dusky, empty space, and the pungent smell of mould mixed with motor oil went straight to her nostrils, causing her to wrinkle her nose. As her vision cleared, she realized she was in an abandoned warehouse.
Emily tried to rise, but found her hands tied tightly behind her back, and the rough texture of the twine made her wrists ache. A strong sense of uneasiness and confusion rose in her mind as she tried to remember what had happened before. Suddenly the memories came flooding back, and she remembered the horrible moment when a woman approached her from behind and, before she could react, the woman pressed a knife to her back and then covered her mouth with a piece of a foul-smelling cloth. Emily struggled desperately, but the drug was too strong, and soon her consciousness was lost in endless darkness. Her consciousness was plunged into endless darkness, and it was not till that moment that she awoke.
Footsteps were approaching, and Emily looked up to see the woman who had kidnapped her standing before her.
She was Haley.
" What are you doing Haley?" Emily questioned. She noticed the petrol-barrel that Hayley carried in her hand, the metallic contents of which had an aura of cold and danger about them.
Haley looked at her coldly, her eyes burning with vengeance, " Emily, you killed Elijah. You must pay for Elijah’s death."
So saying, Haley violently lifted the petrol-barrel, and began to pour it recklessly on the ground. The pungent smell of gasoline quickly filled the air, and the liquid spread across the floor like an evil viper.
Emily’s heart raced as she desperately struggled with her body while yelling at Haley, "Haley, you’re crazy! Elijah’s death was of his own making. You’re not making any sense at all."
Haley, however, ignored her cries and did not stop moving her hands. After spilling the gasoline, she pulled a lighter from her pocket and a fire started, and Haley threw the lighter at the confluence of the gasoline.
The flames spread rapidly, enveloping Emily in an instant. Haley’s white hair flew in the flames, and her figure faded, leaving Emily to struggle in the flames.
