Chapter 26: The Awakening of a Luna

She turned her head slowly when the bedchamber door opened. Healer Ben stood in the doorway, giving her a faint, moonlit smile. She tried to force a smile, but she couldn’t.

"May I come in?"

"Yes," she responded with a nod. He began to walk into the bedchamber. A he-wolf assistant that came with him walked behind him. Mrs. Thompson slowly shut the door and leaned on it.

"How are you?" Healer Ben asked, examining her knees and face.

"I’m fine," she responded, giving Mrs. Thompson a stare that was filled with unsaid words, wondering why she couldn’t tell her a healer and an assistant wanted to see her. She shrugged and left the bedchamber. Probably, she misunderstood her fixed stare.

"Your mate called me a few minutes ago. He said he lost control of his wolf and came hard on you; would you permit me to examine you here?" Healer Ben asked.

"No, he didn’t come hard on me; I’m fine," she responded. She had some bruises but she did not want it to seem as though he had forced himself on her. After all, she wanted him badly and enjoyed every bit of his possessive thrust. She didn’t want the pain to disappear either, as it kept reminding her of the most intense moment of her life.

"Okay, do you need an emergency contraceptive?"

"No, I’m free. Besides; he is my mate, isn’t he?" She asked, trying to read his expression.

"Yeah, sure; I will be on my way then. I’m your exclusive healer; please, do not hesitate to call me if you feel anything."

"Alright, thank you for coming."

"You are welcome," Healer Ben said and left the bedchamber.

She pulled the intercom remote and summoned her maids. She lost her appetite after confronting Brandon’s moonallies. However, she regained it after spending quality time with her mate. She also felt like burying herself in warm water.

Paige and Naomi came into the bedroom after a few minutes with her breakfast. They quickly filled the bathtub with hot water and added some bath bombs and essential oils as usual. They called her attention when the water was ready.

She stood up from the bed and noticed a sudden change in her mood. Brandon really made her feel like a complete mate. For once, she felt like she was a complete she-wolf. She felt elevated like the true mate of a powerful alpha, even though Brandon is so mysterious. It was as though her wolf had awakened and she could see clearly. The sudden change in her mood began to reflect in her steps. She saw herself walking like a high-ranking luna; swaying her hips with natural grace and quiet dominance.

The hot water treatment felt like the height of luxury for her. She began to unwind and her muscles and aching knees began to feel less painful. She stepped out when she was done, feeling clean, comforted, and relaxed.

A message that came on her communication device called her attention to the device she dropped on the bed. She picked the device up and checked; the message came from Brandon. "Emma, I’m sorry; please forgive me." She tossed the device aside as though she was mad at him, but honestly, she wasn’t. She was just unhappy with the way he drifted out as though some wolf was after him. She sat down at her table and enjoyed her breakfast. She didn’t care if he had a gorgeous mate or not. She loved him and that was all that mattered to her.

She walked into her closet; Paige and Naomi had removed the bedding Brandon kept beside the sofa bed and put a clean sheet. They were whispering into each other’s ears and quickly kept quiet as soon as she walked in. She flashed them a stare and focused on the cloth hanger. She knew why they were murmuring and she was not happy with them because whatever she did with her mate didn’t concern them. It was none of their business. She tried to ignore them, but she couldn’t. She knew them very well. They would broadcast what they just discovered around the estate and probably tag her as one of his playthings.

"Listen, I take you as moonallies; if you start gossiping about what I do with my mate in my bedchamber, I’ll have to tell Bernard to change you."

"We are sorry," they said almost in unison, bowing their heads. She turned and concentrated on the dress hanger.

"Alpha’s mate, your phone is ringing."

"Get it."

Paige hurried to her bed and brought the device to the closet. She checked the caller; it was Faith, their neighbor. She hesitated before dialing her number because she didn’t tell any of their neighbors that she was mated and they would get mad at her for not telling them.

She tried to cook up a lie to cover her kins, but nothing came to her head. Her call came in again and she received it.

"Hi, Faith."

"Emma, where have you been?"

"I...I’m..."

"We are in a healing den; your mother fell from the stairs."

"What!! When?"

"Now, no one was at the pack house when it happened, so I called the healers immediately."

"Which hospital?"

"Alchemist Healing Pack."

"I’m coming there right away."

She hit the intercom button and Bernard responded.

"Bernard, I’m going out, please inform the driver right away," she said with a bit of authority in her tone. She couldn’t believe she was slowly acting like the alpha’s mate. She hoped she wouldn’t overact.

"Are you going with the guards?" Bernard asked.

"For what? No, I don’t need them."

"Please, the alpha..."

"Fine, call the driver," she interrupted, and switched the intercom off.

She sat on her dressing sofa bed and faced the mirror. Without being told, Paige grabbed her hairpins and began to style her hair. Naomi got her shoes and jewelry box; she helped her with the right accessories.

She stood up and left the chamber hurriedly when the driver came out. She tried to inform Brandon that she was going out, but she couldn’t. She wanted him to have a taste of her wrath too.

One of the new guards that were assigned to her stood behind the passenger side of the car. She halted and fixed her gaze on him.

"Alpha’s mate, please...."

"Fine," she waved at him to stop talking and get to work immediately. He put his hand forward and opened the rear door for her. She entered the car and the driver zoomed off.

Her heart skipped at the thought of meeting her father and sibling. She knew they would create a scene as usual, but she was happy she had a guard that would teach them a lesson if they tried any nonsense. She felt a strange satisfaction knowing she now had a protector bound to her. She looked forward to their reaction.

As the estate receded behind her, her heart pounded—not from fear of the healing den, but from the looming confrontation awaiting her. Her father and sibling would undoubtedly create drama, as they always did.

Yet this time, she was not the same Emma who had arrived timid and uncertain.

She was Alpha Brandon’s claimed mate.

And she now had a pack guard at her side.

For the first time, she did not dread confrontation.

Instead, she welcomed it.
