Brand's surprise lingered until he heard a faint 'ding', snapping him back to reality. He saw the Female War God of the Kruz people coldly knock the Short Sword out of Qian's hand.

The Short Sword fell into the grass—

The red-haired girl looked up, grasping her right wrist with one hand and silently biting her little canine teeth, glaring at this old woman. This was already the second time she had suffered at the hands of the other, especially that condescending attitude which made her very uncomfortable.

If it weren't for the Lord still being in their hands, she would have glared at Veronica angrily.

But Veronica likewise said nothing, dragging Brand backward and disappearing into the grass, not caring if Qian was still following behind.

"Lady Veronica, this isn't exactly courteous—" Brand felt his shoulder being gripped by a hand, as if caught in a steel clamp, unable to move—being dragged through the grass by the Empire's Female War God was quite an unusual experience. In the past, if someone had been 'intimately' touched once by Veronica in the game, they'd probably rush to post about it on the forum in shock.

But now, Brand didn't find it worth boasting about.

Veronica seemed not to hear him. She dragged him deep into the grass before turning back to say coldly, "Mr. Brand, on the battlefield, only surviving gives you the chance to talk about courtesy."

With that, Veronica released her grip, and Brand immediately regained control of his body. He took a breath, grimacing as he rubbed his shoulder, thinking about just how strong the old woman was.

"Alright, where are Faina and the others?" Veronica asked.

Brand's hand stilled, "Miss Faina and Sir Elman left at the start of the Wolf Calamity," he replied without changing his expression. In truth, saying this wasn't entirely a lie—if the start of the 'Wolf Calamity' referred to within one hour of the Black Wolf's attack at the Rose Wall.

Veronica looked at Brand, without speaking. One hand rested beneath her cloak. This subtle movement didn't escape Brand's notice; he thought she must be holding some kind of Lie Detection Gem or similar object.

If it were an Ordinary person, it would be easy to overlook such unnoticed details, but for players seasoned in the game, such tricks were hardly new.

"Did you not kill them?" Veronica's brow furrowed as she asked.

Brand took a breath, finally confirming Veronica's reason for acting just now—this woman had come specifically for Faina.

This meant she hadn't yet encountered Lord Withering.

He glanced upwards. Mist was slowly spreading over the forest, indicating the valley would soon become unsafe.

"Why would I kill them? I have no reason to start a war." Brand withdrew his gaze, now completely calm, he looked at Veronica with deep brown eyes.

Veronica sighed in relief, but for some reason, she suddenly recalled the noble daughter from Erune by Brand's side—both master and servant's answers were strikingly similar, prompting her to shake her head.

"Can you take me to find them, Mr. Brand?"

"That's impossible!" Brand bluntly refused. Faina had been taken by Lord Withering Andesa, while Luo Nuo and Elman were both dead, nowhere to be found. No one knew this better than him.

Furthermore, he had more important tasks to complete, and couldn't afford to waste time looking for people.

"You know very well, Lady Veronica," Brand replied, "I'm not responsible in any way for the disappearance of Viscount Alman and Miss Faina."

Veronica didn't comment on this answer; she merely stared at Brand, as if trying to read his true intentions from his eyes.

The atmosphere became somewhat tense.

And it was at this moment that there was a soft 'swish' sound from the grass, as Qian parted the grass and followed them up. Seeing Brand confronting Veronica, she momentarily paused, then decided to walk to Brand's side.

But Qian didn't expect that just as she made a move, a cold Longsword was already pressed against her throat.

Veronica placed the Sword Pressure on Qian's snowy neck.

"What do you mean by this?" Brand's eyes flared up, as he looked at Veronica in disbelief.

"Sorry, young man," Veronica replied coldly, "If you do not agree, I'm afraid I'll have to take your companion."
