America 1919-Chapter 903: In the Shadow of the Rothschilds
"If those speculators in Europe learn about the Rothschild family’s plan, Mr. Anthony, do you think you would still need my funds?"
Anthony Rothschild stood up abruptly, his face now devoid of any smile: "If that happens, Mr. Block, you will be the enemy of the entire Rothschild family. Can you bear the consequences?"
There isn’t a single person in this world who would willingly become the enemy of the Rothschild family.
Donnie, however, seemed unconcerned by Anthony Rothschild’s threats.
"Mr. Anthony, your family has many enemies—you know this far better than I do. Yet, among those enemies, some are still living very well.
So, becoming an enemy of the Rothschild family? I think it’s nothing. Besides, I stand to lose nothing!"
Anthony Rothschild grew increasingly furious. He hadn’t expected Donnie Block to be so unyielding.
"Mr. Block, don’t forget that this is the United Kingdom!"
Donnie leaned back comfortably on the sofa, a smile playing on his lips, and replied, "Of course I know this is the United Kingdom. But, Mr. Anthony, there’s something I doubt you’re aware of. Personnel from United States Logistics have already arrived in the United Kingdom ahead of me.
That said, these people can’t cause much trouble for the entire nation. But I can assure you, if anything happens to me here, they will definitely do something that could shake the entire world. As for whether your Rothschild family could bear such consequences, I think, Mr. Anthony, you’d better go back and discuss this thoroughly with your family!"
Anthony Rothschild sank into the sofa, his complexion pale—he naturally understood the implication behind Donnie’s words.
Moreover, the Rothschild family was well acquainted with Donnie’s circumstances. They knew the United States Logistics personnel he alluded to were Venus’s combat professionals.
These individuals were veterans from battlefields, seasoned and battle-hardened.
If they were to appear in London...
and act in a totally unrestrained manner, Anthony Rothschild had no idea what sort of repercussions that might lead to.
"I hope you realize, Mr. Block, that you must take responsibility for what you say!"
Donnie replied nonchalantly, "Of course I will. But, Mr. Anthony, can you take responsibility for your decisions?"
Anthony Rothschild couldn’t answer that question.
In the end, the two parties parted ways on an unpleasant note.
After leaving the hotel, Anthony Rothschild immediately instructed his assistant to investigate any new individuals who had secretly arrived in London recently. At the same time, he personally rushed to the estate where Ned Rothschild was residing.
Ned Rothschild was lying in bed, his face pale, but he still listened intently to Anthony Rothschild’s account.
"Cough, cough..."
After hearing the story, Ned Rothschild began coughing, and a servant by his side quickly handed over a spittoon.
"You let Donnie Block steer the conversation. You failed to ask the critical questions!"
Ned Rothschild spoke weakly.
Anthony Rothschild’s expression shifted slightly, and he asked, "What critical questions?"
Ned Rothschild explained, "The first crucial question: How did Donnie know we were planning to make a move?
The second question: Why is Donnie so calm about us rejecting his entry into the Federal Reserve?"
Anthony Rothschild answered skeptically, "Donnie trusts in our family’s power. Naturally, he can deduce that we’re bound to act.
As for the second point, Donnie must have anticipated that we’d act, which is likely why he’s tried using this threat to compel us into agreeing to his entry into the Federal Reserve!"
Ned Rothschild shook his head weakly and replied, "Donnie is from the United States. Even though he may have investigated our situation in Europe, he couldn’t possibly know us as well as the European-based speculators who track our family’s every move. So why can’t those speculators interpret our moves, but Donnie can?
Moreover, timing is crucial when it comes to taking action. Donnie appeared very certain—suggesting that he likely knows when we’re planning to act.
But such information is limited to only a few of us here. Not even most of the family members are privy to it. So, how did Donnie learn this?"
Anthony Rothschild fell into silence but, as a capable representative of the Rothschild family, he began contemplating seriously.
After a while, Anthony Rothschild abruptly spoke a name: "Morgan?"
Anthony then provided an explanation for his conclusion: "In this matter, we’ve chosen to collaborate with Morgan. Morgan knows the specifics of our plans. Donnie has many businesses in the United States that are directly tied to Morgan.
This implies that Donnie’s relationship with Morgan is far closer than what we’ve previously discovered.
If that’s the case, it might explain why Donnie isn’t troubled by our rejection of his entry into the Federal Reserve—because Morgan is backing him. Plus, with the support of the Woburg family, Donnie’s path to joining the Federal Reserve is no longer a difficult feat!"
Ned Rothschild nodded at first, but then shook his head and said, "That’s my guess too, but there’s one thing that doesn’t add up!"
"What doesn’t add up?" Anthony Rothschild asked directly.
"Morgan’s collaboration with us is a massive undertaking. A deal of this scale—no matter how one weighs the interests or considers reputational risks—Morgan would never disclose this to Donnie.
This is why I said you failed to ask the critical questions!"
Ned Rothschild spoke slowly.
Anthony Rothschild asked, "Do we ask Donnie or Morgan?"
