Chapter 945 -875: The Maniacal Criminal and the Last Survivor_2

Later, Hollywood’s new generation of actresses, like Anya Taylor Joy, seemed at first glance to be the products of plastic surgery oddities.

Martin pulled out a chair and sat opposite; up close, it was especially clear that Anya probably hadn’t had any work done on her face yet.

Anya asked the waiter to bring the menu, saying, “Order whatever you like; my treat tonight.”

Martin took the menu, smiling as he said, “I won’t stand on ceremony then.”

He casually ordered a few easy-to-digest dishes and then pushed the menu across the table.

Anya ordered a few items as well.

The food arrived quickly, and they chatted while eating.

“My performance these past few days has been good, right?” Anya seemed to be seeking guidance with humility, specifically asking Martin, “Did I capture the character well?”

After a moment’s thought, Martin said, “Among all the actresses, your performance was the most outstanding, capturing the traits of the character very well; you did a great job in several scenes.”

Anya appeared particularly pleased with Martin’s approval, “I’ve always been worried that I’m not doing well enough, that I can’t carry the role, but now I have confidence.”

Martin spoke candidly, “You have great talent, better than both Anna and Sophia.”

Hearing the name Ana De Armas, Anya was reminded of what she had witnessed on set these days; that Cuban woman would follow Martin to his trailer every midday, and what they did there was anyone’s guess.

Anya had a clear understanding of herself; getting the audition opportunity came from WMA’s recommendation, and then being lucky enough to catch Martin’s eye.

She then said, “The scene I have with you at the end seems crucial to the film.”

Martin nodded gently, “That’s the total transformation of the male lead’s new persona.”

Discussing the role, Anya had clear goals, “I’ve gone over the script for this crucial scene many times, but I always feel like I can’t integrate it completely. By thinking about it alone, I can’t grasp the essence of the scene. Should we rehearse it a few times?”

For the final scene, Martin had not rehearsed with Anya because it involved sensitive content, including not just extensive shots but also scenes of killing.

Rehearse such scenes in advance?

As soon as Martin heard this, he understood the situation, “Regarding rehearsal, whenever you’re free; I should be fine.”

How does one get by in the entertainment industry without being shrewd? Anya knew to seize the moment, continuing with Martin’s words, “How about tonight? This scene is very challenging, and I think we should rehearse several times so that come the actual shoot, we can perform it effortlessly.”

Martin considered for a moment, “The set is closed now, but how about this—after we finish our late-night meal, we head over to the Ritz-Carlton Hotel? It’s nearby.”

“That works.” Anya agreed with a nod, patting the backpack she’d brought along, “I’ve prepared everything.”

From the first time she caught Ana De Armas going into Martin’s trailer, Anya had been planning the rehearsal for the concluding scenes of the script.

Rehearsing challenging scenes with the male lead all night was a pursuit of great art!

After the late-night meal, Martin left the restaurant first, hurrying to the Ritz-Carlton Hotel. He waited in the top-floor private room for about ten minutes before Anya arrived.

They began to discuss the script’s ending seriously.

After the discussion, it was natural to start rehearsing.

“We’re short a crucial prop.” Martin still maintained a professional spirit, “I’ll find a rope; there should be some soft rope here.”

This place was where he frequently met people for dates. Sometimes, individuals like Jolie, Aniston, and Alexandra would bring along some useful props for performing special scenes.

Anya stood up, opened the backpack she’d brought along, and first took out a rope and a pair of chilly handcuffs, saying, “I’ve prepared everything.”

Martin picked up the rope and then took a prop knife from the backpack. Within a few breaths, he underwent a complete transformation.

From a sunny, handsome, and gentle man, he turned into a chilling, slightly deranged criminal maniac.

Anya also quickly got into character, becoming the final survivor, engaged in a battle of wits and wills with the male lead, who suffered from a split personality, only to be captured in the end.

Under the female lead’s stimulus, the male lead’s most frightening persona fully emerged, and the female lead inevitably became the sacrifice.

The scene was extremely difficult; a single rehearsal certainly wouldn’t suffice, so it was necessary to continuously explore the character and their lines to achieve a higher level of completion.

Rehearsals lasted most of the night, thankfully the next day was the weekend, so there was no need to go to the set for filming, allowing for some well-deserved rest, otherwise, Anya would have had to take the day off.

Despite her youth, Anya was a very professional actress; after resting for a while the next day, she took the initiative to find Martin and continue rehearsing the most challenging scene.

Over the course of the weekend, Martin and Anya practiced thirty-six different interpretations of the scene.

By Sunday evening, the two professionals each went home to get a good night’s rest for the shoot the next day.

Martin arrived at the hotel’s underground parking lot, got into the car driven by Bruce, and said, “Let’s go back.”

Bruce did not start the car immediately but instead said, “There’s feedback from Kiev, Alexandrovich has solidified his power and is ready to make a move.”

Martin asked, “What’s his plan?”

Bruce simply said, “Alexandrovich plans to nationalize Ukraine’s major media and TV stations to force the oligarchs behind 1+1 TV Channel out. He will use the security service, the army, in coordination with American forces to take down Igor, and then auction off the Privat Group at a low price.”

Martin understood and waved his hand dismissively, “You lead the team that’s prepared to handle it.”

Bruce replied, “I’m going to Europe next week; all your bodyguards here are arranged.”

Martin said, “I won’t leave North America before ‘Shark Beach’ premieres at the end of January next year.”

The next morning, filming for “Split” began on time.

After a night’s rest, Martin was full of energy and dove into the day’s work.

All the scenes for the female personality were completed; for the second part, David Fincher chose the ten-year-old boyish personality.

Martin’s costume was sneakers and sportswear, and as he came down from the trailer, his whole demeanor changed.

He seemed like an ungrown child.

Not in the sense that a man remains a boy until he dies, but rather like a boy who is kind-hearted, somewhat timid, and extremely curious about women.

As the character’s personality changed, aside from continuing to lay the groundwork for the homicidal personality, Martin’s performance was nearly a completely new character.

The first scene for this character ran into a problem; David Fincher called a halt and pulled Martin aside for a talk.

Martin directly asked, “What’s the issue?”

It was a kissing scene, where the boyish personality, full of curiosity about women, kisses the female lead who is being detained.

David Fincher walked around Martin, then said, “There’s a problem with your kissing scene.”

Martin questioned, “Isn’t it supposed to be awkward?”

The source of this c𝐨ntent is freёnovelkiss.com.

“Is that what you call awkward?” David Fincher shook his head with a laugh, “Before you even kissed Anya, there’s already an eruption of pheromones coming from you… Your kiss isn’t awkward, it’s more like an experienced man trying to appear innocent.”

Martin laughed sheepishly, “Is it really that exaggerated?”

David Fincher said very seriously, “It’s actually more exaggerated than I said! Martin, your role is a ten-year-old child, filled with curiosity for women and tempted by the female lead to try kissing for the first time. Reflect on the feeling of your first kiss.”

Martin thought back carefully but couldn’t remember it, neither from this life nor the previous one.

Filming restarted, and after several attempts, Martin finally found that deeply awkward sensation.

Once the kissing scene was finished, the other scenes posed no difficulty for Martin.

He wore sportswear, his face rich with expressions, like a child unable to hide his feelings, sitting on a doorstep, chatting innocently and naively with girls, and struggling to refuse their requests.

But when he realized he was being conned by the female lead, Martin’s facial expression was of panic mixed with a sense of grievance, his slightly upturned eyes made one clearly feel the heartache.

To better shape this personality trait, he continuously tried different accents and movements, portraying the character as pretending to be mature yet still quite naive.
