Chapter 767 -384: A Game of Strategy from Both Sides_2

Under the lobbying of Henrietta and her fellow Freemasonry members, the two major powers finally agreed to the plan.

After all, even if something really went wrong, if the three of them were to shoulder it together, they should still be able to withstand it.

While The Big Three Groups were conspiring in secret,

over at the Internal Revenue Service Headquarters, David was also discussing with Raglen and the others who had hurried over.

But no matter how much they discussed, there was only one conclusion: they had to resolve the Senate’s speech procedures quickly, otherwise, the longer it dragged on, the more disadvantageous it would be for them!

...

“Alright, leave this matter to me to settle. You all go back and prepare for tomorrow’s business.”

“Understood, Chief Inspector David.”

As soon as Raglen and the others left, Manson walked in with a file in hand and said, “This is the information just obtained from Chief Elvis; these two congressmen are worth a try.”

David nodded slightly, took the documents, and started to review them.

Half an hour later, after getting a good grip on the information of the two senators, David, accompanied by Manson and a few others, stepped out of the headquarters’ main entrance.

Time quickly advanced to 9 p.m.

David and his group arrived in front of Suite 1208 at the Westin Center Hotel and rang the doorbell.

About a minute later, the door opened, and a black female appeared in front of Suyi and the others.

Upon seeing David and his team, the black woman frowned slightly but quickly returned to normal and asked, “Chief Inspector David, what brings you here so late?”

“Senator Yuna, may we have a word?”

The senator named Yuna hesitated for a few seconds and then made a welcoming gesture.

“Coffee, or…?”

“Just a glass of plain water for us, thank you!”

Soon, Yuna brought a few glasses of plain water, then sat opposite David on the sofa.

David took a sip from his water glass and said, “Senator Yuna, you probably have a guess about the purpose of my visit today. That’s right, I am here to solicit your vote. Would you be interested in casting it for us tomorrow?”

Yuna shook her head and said, “If I were going to vote for you, I would have done so already. Why wait until now?”

“Fair point, but Senator Yuna, I think you are a person who understands the situation. If I remember correctly, not only did you vote in favor of our ‘dark tax’ bill, but you also publicly supported the legislation multiple times.”

“So why not continue to support our present bill on remote tax evasion? You must realize, the benefits this bill could bring to the nation absolutely dwarf those of the ‘dark tax’ bill.”

David didn’t want to resort to threats right off the bat, which was why he was persuading her with such earnestness.

“Since Chief Inspector David you have put it that way, I may as well speak frankly. You should know that the ‘dark tax’ bill was only affecting the interests of a group of criminals, so naturally, the resistance would be smaller, plus, it was politically correct!”

“As for the current remote tax evasion bill, it affects the interests of capitalists across America, and there’s too much at stake. One wrong move could lead to utter ruin, so I hope you can understand my predicament!”

Yuna spoke quite candidly.

“As a senator in the Senate, you should be pursuing policies in your position. You ought to be thinking about the interests of the general public, not putting yourself in the shoes of those capitalists to think for them. And do you really believe that by standing with them, you won’t end up shattered to pieces?”

At first, David appealed to her emotions, but his following words began to convey a hint of warning.

“Say no more, Chief Inspector David, my mind is made up!”

“Senator Yuna, do you know why so many congresspersons in Congress are at my command now?”

A chill emanated from David’s gaze.

Yuna sneered in response, “No one has ever had such influence over Congress, not even The Big Three Groups. Unless they unite, they could hardly counterbalance you in Congress. I admit you are truly formidable on that point.”

“So are you saying that we really have nothing to discuss?”

Yuna shook her head helplessly.

David, however, did not respond; instead, he gestured to Manson behind him.

Immediately, Manson pulled out a document from his bag and slid it across to Yuna. David added, “Senator Yuna, I think you’d better not look. It’s not too late to change your mind!”

Yuna stared at the document in front of her, silent for about ten seconds, then finally picked it up and began to examine it.

Ten minutes later, having read through the entire document, Senator Yuna did not show much surprise or confusion, only despair in her eyes.

She had already considered that David, who could manipulate other Congressmen, certainly had dirt on many of them. Getting something on her wasn’t out of the question.

And now it was confirmed!

“I already warned you, Senator Yuna, it’s better for you not to look. But since you’ve chosen to see it, please give us a response!”

David spoke expressionlessly.

“I stand by my previous decision. You may go back now; there’s no need to discuss this matter any further!”

“What! Senator Yuna, do you realize what you’re saying? Do you know what this document represents? Have you…have you really looked it over clearly!?”

Before David could say anything, Manson interrupted with an incredulous tone.

It’s no wonder why.

What was recorded in the document was surely enough to ruin Senator Yuna’s career, perhaps even leading to a prison sentence.

In the past, even the most unyielding Congressmen, upon seeing such destructive materials against them, would choose to stall for time rather than flatly refuse.

Yet here was Senator Yuna, not showing any sign of compromise.

What was going on?

Apart from Manson, David was also frowning deeply at Yuna.

At 48 years old, Senator Yuna was at the peak of her political career in America and had bright prospects.

Why was she now so indifferent to her future, to the point of ignoring even the threat of prison?

Could there be a flaw in the document?

But that couldn’t be possible. As the thought crossed his mind, David dismissed it immediately.

He had secured the compromising information on the document long ago, and after entrusting the CIA to embroider it, he knew it contained enough to deal a devastating blow to Yuna—there couldn’t be any flaws.

So the question remained, what made her so resolutely defiant?

“I know, and I’ve seen it clearly. If you want to proceed, then go ahead. We stand on different grounds, and I won’t bear any resentment towards you!”

Already puzzled, David and the others grew even more perplexed at Yuna’s words.

Clearly, from her statement, there was no question about the validity of the document.

What gave her such courage?

After pondering to no avail, David did not linger any longer. He stood up and walked towards the exit, with Manson and the other three trailing behind.

“What in the world is going on? That document should be very serious for her; she shouldn’t be so firmly maintaining her previous stance!”

After getting into the car, Manson was still noticeably troubled.

“There must be a demon at work where chaos arises. Something’s off with Yuna. What exactly did The Big Three Groups promise to offer her, that she isn’t afraid of losing her reputation and career?”

“Damn it, if she’s not afraid, then we must teach her a lesson, as a warning to others!”

Jerry and Larin also spoke in indignation.

However, at this moment, David interjected, “Let’s leave this matter for now, and focus on dealing with Mandel first!”

Hearing this, Manson and the others did not dare to dwell on the topic any longer and started the vehicle, driving towards the next Senator’s residence.
