Chapter 66: "Wife Told Her Mother Everything”

While walking down the corridor on the second floor of the alchemy chamber, Xuanyan’s mind wasn’t as calm as before. The peace from earlier had already faded, replaced by a more serious train of thought. The alchemy test was coming soon, and he couldn’t afford to mess it up.

If he wanted Mei Lingyao to truly accept him — not merely tolerate him because of Lingling — then he had to prove himself. Talent wasn’t something that could be faked for long.

He clearly understood how important Mei Lingyao was. In the original story, she had been Ye Qingfeng’s alchemy master, and after becoming her personal disciple, Ye Qingfeng’s path inside the sect became much smoother.

Elders who had barely noticed him before began speaking to him with courtesy, and resources that were once difficult to obtain somehow came much more easily. Through her influence, he gradually built connections with important figures within the sect, especially Hei Yuling, the Sect Master’s youngest disciple, and that single connection quietly shifted the direction of his entire path.

Xuanyan chuckled quietly to himself as he thought about how the story had originally unfolded. Back then, everything had seemed to fall perfectly into place for Ye Qingfeng, one opportunity appearing after another, as if the world itself were quietly pushing him forward.

Even that so-called minor treasure from the Martial Pavilion — the one Xuanyan had already taken — was never truly minor. In the original storyline, it had been the first step that allowed Ye Qingfeng to approach Hei Yuling, and through that single treasure, her attention had slowly shifted toward him until she eventually stood by his side.

If things continued along the same path, winning her over would make dealing with the other senior sisters much easier, and once Hei Yuling stood firmly by his side, even the Sect Master herself might not remain distant for long.

Then there’s Tang Lishen, who was probably Lingling’s husband in that timeline and likely had a strong bond with her. The only thing is, he hasn’t shown up in the Chapters I’ve read so far. He might appear later, I suppose.

But the troubling thought was—whose heroine had caught his attention? Was it Yanmei, or perhaps Mei Lingyao herself? Xuanyan strongly believed it was Mei Lingyao, even though she was Ye Qingfeng’s master. Their relationship was purely master and disciple, and her daughter wasn’t part of his harem too. Could she have been caught in Tang Lishen’s net all along?

It didn’t matter, Xuanyan murmured inwardly as he continued walking, though a new realization slowly formed in his mind. He could no longer earn system points from Lingling, because now that she was already his woman, the system had quietly stopped assigning any missions related to her. At first, he hadn’t paid much attention to it, but as he thought about it now, the truth became obvious. Lingling was already his, and that Chapter had quietly closed the moment she chose him. The system would never reward him for something he already possessed.

"Husband, what are you thinking?" Lingling asked as she walked beside him, still holding his sleeve lightly.

Xuanyan came back from his thoughts and looked at her, the faint intensity in his gaze fading on its own. "Nothing much," he replied calmly. "I was just thinking about your mother."

Lingling raised her brows slightly. "My mother?"

He nodded. "It will be the first time I stand before her properly. She’s a Foundation Establishment elder, and I’m only an outer sect disciple. That alone is enough to make anyone cautious."

He paused briefly before adding in a lower voice, half teasing, half serious, "And after everything that happened between us... how exactly am I supposed to stand in front of her as if nothing changed?"

Lingling’s ears flushed instantly, Her steps slowed just a little as she understood what he meant. "You? Feeling nervous?" she asked, though there was a faint smile in her eyes.

Xuanyan gave a small breath. "Is that so strange?" Lingling tightened Xuanyan’s hand and said calmly, "Don’t think too much, junior brother. Yes, she’s an Alchemist Elder renowned across the continent, a Foundation Establishment cultivator who could kill a Qi Condensation disciple with just a flick of her fingers... but in the end, she’s still human."

Xuanyan’s mouth twitched slightly, at her so called motivation but he didn’t interrupt. "She won’t suddenly release killing intent just because you breathe wrong," Lingling continued calmly. "At most she’ll glare at you. Maybe test you. Maybe scare you a little. That’s normal."

"I wasn’t even nervous before," Xuanyan muttered internally. Now I am. You’re right senior wife he said aloud.

Lingling smiled faintly. "And don’t worry. I already told her everything about you." Xuanyan glanced at her. "Everything?"

"Yes. Even about our first time." She said it as if reporting cultivation progress. "You are my husband. Why would I hide it?"

Xuanyan : (╥﹏╥)

.....

Xuanyan didn’t say anything more. Instead, the two of them quietly picked up their pace. They soon reached the third floor — the highest level of the outer sect’s alchemy chamber. Unlike the lower floors, this one was almost empty.

Only a single alchemy room occupied the entire level, its large wooden doors standing quietly at the end of the corridor. The dark wood was polished smooth from years of use, faint flame-shaped carvings etched across its surface. Subtle alchemical symbols glimmered near the edges, forming a quiet protective formation around the entrance. Xuanyan stepped forward and released a thread of spiritual energy into the bronze bell hanging beside the entrance.

The bell’s sound faded, and after a brief moment the heavy wooden doors slowly opened from inside. A woman dressed in white stood there, her figure steady beneath the corridor’s light. "Sister Yanmei," Xuanyan greeted her immediately.

Yanmei’s gaze locked onto Xuanyan the moment she saw him, then slowly shifted to Lingling standing beside him

"You both took your time," Yanmei said with a small huff. "I was waiting last night. I even thought about coming to call you, but Mother stopped me. She said not to disturb both of you." Her gaze shifted between them before she added, "What could possibly have kept you that occupied?"
