Apocalypse: Hero of Potato Fields-Chapter 333 - 330 Hanover
Shelter.
Lin Yi got up very early, with nothing else to do, he decided to start making breakfast.
Chen Youyou was already preparing.
They happily chatted about work and rumors.
Chen Youyou is not as busy as before, she has delegated a lot of work to her subordinates, but her responsibilities are heavier now.
Throughout breakfast, Rein was glowing with radiance.
The girls all noticed and kept asking her questions, but she just told them she had gotten a bit stronger, and then showed them some small magic tricks of turning into a Shadow.
What really surprised Lin Yi, Chen Youyou, and the others present was.
Rein’s eyes had become much more confident!
She was no longer shy about meeting the gaze of the man she loves.
In the past, when their eyes met, she would usually look away immediately, blushing, and when she looked at the boss, it was just a quick glance or two.
After breakfast, Lin Yi assigned tasks to everyone, then prepared to return to Earth.
He planned to go to Hanover today.
This would be his last stop before heading to Berlin.
Before leaving, he collected some fragments to allow the knights and the new Child of the Sun squad to gain some Experience Points.
Both fragments were of medium size, but because the Moving Island was nearby, he mobilized the entire army.
However, Lin Yi underestimated these rookies, they cleared these two fragments in just half an hour.
The soldiers killed about a hundred thousand Zombies, averaging sixteen hundred kills per Warrior.
After dealing with these fragments, Lin Yi collected two slightly larger fragments and then teleported to Earth.
On the way to Hanover, all he could see were fields overgrown with weeds.
There were a few small towns, but no Zombies or humans, which was somewhat unsettling.
"There must be a General Zombie around here..."
Lin Yi didn’t mind hunting some Zombies, but a General was not an enemy he could deal with in open fields, or even behind a Steel Wall.
If his knights were all Level 10, that would be a different story...
"We have trouble, boss!" Solomon said through the radio, interrupting Lin Yi’s contemplation.
"What’s up?"
"You better come see this yourself..."
After teleporting to Solomon, Lin Yi saw the knights fighting... Zombie Knights!
They were genuine Zombie Knights, wearing Armor, carrying Shields and Swords.
"Fourth Level Zombies!?"
"They can control weaker Zombies and are very strong. They also know how to use Weapons and Armor. But more importantly, they understand how to fight."
Lin Yi quickly scanned the battlefield.
His soldiers, as always, fought from behind the Steel Wall.
The enemy numbered about thirteen thousand, most of them Second Level Zombies.
One-third of the walkers were Third Level Zombies, around five hundred were Fourth Level Zombies.
Third and Fourth Level Zombies moved in small groups of about two hundred, acting very tactically.
Zombie Knights could easily extend their hands over the Steel Wall, and even a few managed to push the Argon people back.
The result was a strange battle.
Both sides attacked each other through the gaps between iron bars on the wall with their swords.
"What’s the problem then?"
"Some Zombie squads are trying to outflank us," Solomon replied.
"So cunning!"
Lin Yi focused his mind, scanning the boundaries of the Shelter.
Six squads led by Fourth Level Zombies were running along the edge of the Steel Wall heading south and east.
They posed no real threat, as they couldn’t breach the main wall, but they couldn’t be ignored.
Lin Yi waved his hand, and three Insect Man children appeared before him.
He described the situation to them and dispatched them to deal with the flanking enemies.
Alyosha was extremely exceptional this time.
He usually fought with his fists and even trained with Agdandur Susin, but now he created a ten-meter-long sword made of Magma.
With one swing, he cut a dozen Zombies in half. The rest almost instantly burned to ashes.
Zombie Knights tried to defend, but it was futile. They couldn’t block Magic with rusty old iron!
Lin Yi left everything to Solomon and his children, then returned to Earth to continue to Hanover.
As he got closer to the city, the Zombies became fewer, but he started noticing signs of human presence.
A large group of Plunderers had set up camp in a small town called Lano, they had a truck, several jeeps, and five motorcycles.
Lin Yi didn’t want to greet them, or even be noticed by them, so he had to take a detour.
When he was about an hour away from Hanover, he sent the Dagger back to the Shelter and continued the rest of the way on foot.
He also changed to Second Level equipment, wearing a ring that added 1 point of Power.
He even rolled in the mud a few times, so he wouldn’t look too clean.
Before entering Hanover, Lin Yi had to pass through a shabby-looking checkpoint.
Occasionally small convoys of vehicles would leave through the gates here.
A few cars attempted to enter, but they all looked worn out.
According to Melanie, those leaving the city were armed, possibly scavengers or plunderers, while those entering were refugees.
Lin Yi mingled with the refugees, the checkpoint personnel directed him on where to go, and it was apparent that Hanover’s residential areas were deeper within the city.
After entering the city, Lin Yi carefully observed Hanover’s defense situation.
Their defense system was somewhat similar to Cologne’s, with multiple layers of city walls, trap pits, and small shelters.
He also noticed bridges connecting one rooftop to another, and a system to defend against zombies trying to climb the walls.
After walking a few kilometers, the refugees arrived at a bridge leading into the city.
There were more guards there, and they were quite unusual, looking like punks, thugs, and addicts.
In other words, bandits.
"There’s a big beauty here!" a bandit exclaimed as he inspected a weathered-looking car and found a girl about 27 years old.
The girl was very frail, but still surprisingly attractive.
"Really? It’s been a while since I’ve had a good time!"
A punk with a green mohawk chuckled, wearing a set of Second Level armor, a gun at his waist, and a nail-headed hammer on his back.
"Get out of the car and let us have some fun, or we won’t let you pass."
"Fuck you!" the woman’s boyfriend or husband roared as he leapt out of the car.
But he was immediately struck on the head by a baseball bat, as a guard had been hiding behind the car waiting to attack.
"How dare you insult my mom, I’ll slit your throat!" screamed a young man with an eccentric hairstyle.
His hair was bright yellow and sticking straight up, and this thug kicked the already unconscious man in the ribs.
"Stop! What are you doing?!" the woman screamed, jumping out of the car with a gun in hand.
"Hahaha! This kitty’s got claws!"
"Listen, we’re gonna kill him, but... you can save him... if you want to," said the most presentable punk as he unzipped his pants.
"I..."
The girl knelt on the ground, tears streaming down her face.
"I’ll do anything, just don’t kill him..."
"Hahaha! That’s more like it!"
About thirty people witnessed this scene, all hoping to enter the city through this gate, but no one dared to help.
They were all afraid, even most of the Professionals among them, and there were about a dozen Professionals among the refugees.
"Alright, that’s enough,"
Lin Yi stepped out from the crowd.
He could have simply walked past them; he wasn’t some hero.
But if he had done that, he wouldn’t be able to face himself in the mirror.
He wasn’t planning to go around helping everyone, but... well, the timing was just right.
"Who the fuck are you?!"
One of the punks shouted, advancing towards the stranger with a twisted, menacing face.
"Here, take this." Lin Yi said, handing something to the punk, then continued walking forward.
"You... huh? A hand grenade!"
The punk was too caught off guard to process what was happening, and when he saw the hand grenade in his hand, he was panic-stricken.
He stood frozen in place, too scared to move.
"If I were you, I wouldn’t let go of it; this thing will probably explode in about a second..."
"Who the hell are you?!"
The lead punk snarled, while six other bandits surrounded Lin Yi.
"Me? I’m someone with places to be, and your crap is wasting my time. Here’s a fine bottle of liquor." Lin Yi pulled a bottle of liquor from his backpack.
"Take it, let these two through, and don’t keep everyone waiting to enter the city. Time is money, brother."
"You really think we won’t just kill you and take everything you have?" the bandit shouted, pulling out a gun.
"You might, but even if you did, I would take all of you down first."
Lin Yi chuckled, drawing a Third Level sword with his right hand and pulling out a gun with his left.
The lead punk stared down Lin Yi for a long moment, finally grabbed the bottle, and ordered the gate to be opened.
"Hah! You’re lucky; I’m in a good mood and I love whiskey! Get lost!"
"Thank you, thank you!" the girl shouted, then began giving first aid to her husband.
After she finished, Lin Yi helped her lift her husband back into the car.
"Give him this water to drink."
Lin Yi tossed a bottle of spring water through the open car window and then walked towards the open city gate, ignoring the girl’s cries of gratitude.
The reinforced gate could only let one car through at a time, so no one else could proceed until the girl’s battered car had passed.
But none of the refugees were angry because of this; they all sat quietly, trying not to attract attention.
Lin Yi was not worried that the punks would attack him once he turned his back, as they were all low-level Professionals.
The most powerful warriors in Hanover were busy protecting the leaders or maintaining city order.
After crossing the bridge, Lin Yi found himself on a surprisingly bustling street.
There were merchants buying up loot, taking anything and everything, even bodies.
He also saw some food stalls selling various snacks that had made their way into the city. There was fried fish, fried rats, fried mushrooms, and some kind of suspicious-looking meat...
However, the most noticeable were the women.
As soon as they saw Lin Yi, they immediately surrounded him.
Surprisingly, none of them attempted to steal from him, as it was clear the hardships of life had taught them that Professionals had quick reflexes and sharp awareness.
"Please, just give me something to eat, I’ll let you do whatever you want to me! I’m begging you!"
"You’ll have so much fun! I’m really good! All it takes is a can of food..."
"Sir, I’ll even... please..."
