Apocalypse: Hero of Potato Fields-Chapter 344 - 339: Weapons Are Running Out
Among the elite zombies, there were three giants.
The Spider Giant, the Caterpillar Giant, and the Meatball Giant.
Lin Yi issued a command, and the artillery fired a volley, but... four shells missed, and the last one was blocked by the Spider Giant.
It shot out a dense web in mid-air, intercepting the shell.
Everyone in the command center was shocked; they hadn’t expected this giant to be so strong.
Despite this setback, the artillery continued to fire, and the giant dragons joined the attack.
Both dragons remained in the air, casting a series of spells, beginning with Thunder Magic.
The night sky quickly became darker.
A loud thunderclap sounded, followed by hundreds of electric charges randomly striking the giants, the zombie army, and mutant creatures.
But even so, the zombie army didn’t stop advancing.
The Spider Giant shot dense webs into the air, absorbing most of the electric strikes.
The Meatball Giant hid behind the Caterpillar Giant, avoiding most of the lightning.
The thunderstorm lasted about ten seconds.
The catapults were destroyed, and the number of zombies significantly decreased.
The Spider Giant quickly protected the mutant creatures, so the minions bore the brunt of the damage.
However, the giants weren’t unscathed either, especially the Meatball Giant.
It started to smoke, showing no signs of life for a while, but eventually moved again and continued forward.
The artillery barrage didn’t cease for a moment, and the dragons’ attacks continued.
The Spider Giant protected its companions but also launched attacks from time to time.
However, it was helpless against Da Chuan’s Ice Pillars.
The dragons focused their attacks on the Caterpillar Giant, whose defense was the weakest.
The Meatball Giant used Stone Shields to protect the Caterpillar Giant, blocking the dragons’ attacks.
These Stone Shields looked like small arches, shielding the Caterpillar Giant so the Ice Element attacks couldn’t hit.
Gradually, the Meatball Giant suffered quite significant damage while protecting its companion.
Before they reached the city walls, the three giants turned back to the island.
They had many terrible wounds.
The Meatball Giant lost a third of its size, and the Spider Giant was missing three legs.
Even without the giants, the zombie army eventually reached the base of the city walls.
Level 3 Strong Zombies immediately began throwing giant stones, while Zombie Knights attacked the walls with siege ladders.
The moat was largely filled with bodies.
The front of the city walls was also piled high with bodies.
Stones weighing over 200 pounds flew towards the walls and defenders.
Next came a rain of arrows.
"Siri!"
"Understood."
The Beetle Queen understood Lin Yi’s need without him needing to speak.
Lin Yi’s consciousness was connected to the collective minds of the beetles, including his three children.
A sense of calm washed over Lin Yi, but this time, everything felt... a little different.
Time slowed down!
All the smallest details on the battlefield were so clear and obvious, easy to comprehend,
he didn’t even need to look to know. An arrow was about to hit a distracted Child of the Sun in the throat.
A stone was about to cross the wall and smash into a field hospital on the other side.
Two mages nearly got pierced by spikes.
Lin Yi teleported one alien after another, issuing many mental commands.
A sniper swiftly changed targets, shooting a zombie mutant in the forehead.
A steel shield appeared in front of the mages, blocking two incoming spikes.
The field hospital’s staff and equipment were moved slightly to one side.
All the aliens facing death or injury were saved.
The shelter’s weak points in defense were protected by cleverly stationed soldiers, and the artillerymen and mortar launchers received their attack targets.
"I’ve reached my limit... sorry..." Siri said, her voice somewhat strained.
Moments later, Lin Yi returned to a normal state.
"It’s okay... this was more than enough." The boss replied while surveying the battlefield.
He was very satisfied!
The artillery and mortars were now firing at the mutant creatures, especially those strong zombies throwing stones.
"Is it just me, or have we sustained longer this time?"
"We indeed lasted longer, 2.3 times longer than before, it’s evolution!" Siri replied, a hint of pride in her voice.
"Thanks to you, I’ve saved many lives."
Lin Yi thought for a moment: "And saved a lot of money for treating them." 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝙬𝙚𝓫𝒏𝓸𝓿𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝙤𝓶
"Boss... you’re hopeless..."
The battle grew more intense, and casualties began increasing continuously.
The mages’ Flaming Tsunami could wipe out thousands of zombies in one go.
But then the enemy archers began attacking from areas untouched by the Flaming Tsunami, so the mages could only resort to firing fireballs,
a complete waste of time at this range.
Of course, the damage from the zombie archers was limited, and half of their arrows were already rotten.
But since most of the Children of the Sun didn’t wear armor, their arrows still posed some trouble.
Worst of all, these archers dispersed rather than grouped together, so the human archers’ Explosive Arrows couldn’t wipe out many enemies at once.
The infantry with guns focused on eliminating distant enemies.
The zombies kept trying to climb the walls.
Level 4 Zombies were harder to kill than Level 3 ones, causing the mages to consume tremendous Magic Value, exhausting Energy Cores one after another.
Their bodies gradually weakened, stress increased, and the recovery rate of Magic Value plummeted.
This made the soldiers very tense.
The Zombie General was achieving his goal—
The defenders were exhausting their power, weapons continued to break and jam.
The number of bodies in front of the walls was nearing a critical level.
Finally, the first zombie climbed to the top of the wall, then... was cut in half.
All the undead that successfully climbed the walls met the same fate.
The Child of the Sun squad members were already prepared to greet these uninvited guests.
Of course, humanity had anticipated this situation.
No one was planning to retreat into the castle.
What would be the point?
They were far from being defeated.
While the dragons and giants engaged, preventing these monsters from entering the Shelter.
Hubert came up with a plan.
Lin Yi approved, and so it was implemented.
In the Shelter, there were sixteen German tanks, five of which were modern Leopard 2 tanks.
They also had six older American tanks and four armored vehicles.
Additionally, there was Louis’ oddly-shaped vehicle.
The tank shells had been magically enhanced to increase the blast radius.
These vehicles appeared on the south side of the battlefield.
The area was shaken by explosions again and again.
Mortars fired continuously, artillery bombarded the mutated creatures, leaving small craters on the ground.
At this moment, the tanks joined the battle. Once they were three hundred yards away from the battlefield, they began to fire.
When seventeen shells exploded simultaneously, a local sea of fire suddenly appeared.
The military vehicles formed a dense formation, attacking the flank of the zombie army, crushing and disabling countless zombies.
Of course, not everything progressed smoothly.
The zombies jumped onto the tanks, trying to use swarm tactics to subdue them... and it worked.
Once a tank had fifty or more zombies on it, its speed began to decline.
But the inertia of the tanks was enough to let them break free from the sea of zombies.
Lin Yi had foreseen this situation and had already made plans in advance.
The armored vehicles were a completely different matter.
Louis had modified them to ensure they wouldn’t stall in action.
However, 3rd-level zombies were agile and smart; they could even climb onto a vehicle with the help of their companions.
Louis’ oddly-shaped vehicle maintained a certain distance from the other vehicles.
It was huge, as large as four heavy tanks bound together, two in front and two in the back.
It was covered in thick armor and equipped with six flamethrower turrets.
The most impressive were its two massive cannons, which did not fire conventional shells but bombs filled with a burning mixture.
This steel monster charged into the swarm of zombies, its six turrets firing fiercely.
Louis used Tilian technology and materials to reinforce the flamethrowers.
Thus, when firing his extremely intense burning mixture, the flamethrowers could last longer.
The flames they spewed turned zombies to ashes within seconds.
...
Your device killed 10 zombies.
Gained 3 experience points.
...
Your device killed 10 zombies.
Gained 4 experience points.
...
You killed a mutated zombie.
Gained 50 experience points.
...
Experience point notifications kept pouring in, and Louis’ vehicle was quickly depleting his Magic Value reserves.
The tanks launched three times in total, used up all the magic-enhanced shells, and then returned to base.
It wasn’t until half the turrets on the vehicle failed and the engine began to stall that Louis ordered all convoys to retreat.
These vehicles successfully relieved much of the pressure on the walls, buying the Shelter time to deal with the mountain of corpses in front of the walls.
Needless to say, the Zombie General tried to destroy these annoying vehicles, but the dragons protected them from the strong zombies and giants.
"The Zombie General is really angry now," Hubert muttered.
"That’s good for us," Solomon said.
"Indeed, we want him to keep attacking. We’re better at defense than offense," Peter added.
"Come on, isn’t it obvious?" Lin Yi snorted.
"I’m not going to beat around the bush; we really underestimated the zombies, especially their numbers.
I want to ask, where did so many zombies come from? That city can’t hold so many people..."
"It’s still unclear at the moment, but the more zombies there are, the more rewards and experience points there are," Solomon said with a grin.
"You’re going to have to say that to our ammunition reserves," the boss replied, shaking his head.
He had a few sheets of paper in his hand, listing the supplies in the Shelter’s warehouse.
Before the meeting started, Lin Yi went to one of the warehouses and printed out all the information he needed using a computer.
"We still have plenty of bullets, but as for our arrows... well..." Hubert pondered.
"Our people have gotten lazy, and I’ll have to punish them... but that’s a matter for later."
Lin Yi was not in the mood for jokes now.
"At this rate, our magic-enhanced arrows will only last for another two hours of battle.
We have plenty of regular arrows, but what the hell good are they?"
"Hmm... Can we analyze the magic-enhanced arrows so they can appear in the shop?"
"I can’t even imagine how much that would cost."
"In an emergency, we might need them, boss!" Peter argued.
"I’m just kidding. That’s an interesting idea.
But we have to focus on analyzing the archers first, and then the weapon makers.
They can solve our arrow problem and also create various other things for us.
Alright, where were we just now?"
The meeting lasted about an hour.
During this time, the situation near the walls became extremely tense once again.
Since the battle began, the mages had already fainted from exhaustion for the fifth time.
Some had even fainted for the seventh time.
They looked no better than the zombies, and their magic effects were becoming less and less effective.
The archers knew they were running low on magic-enhanced arrows, so they had already started using them sparingly.
Several machine guns had overheated and were unusable, and others were about to.
Mountains of empty shell casings had already piled up under the walls.
But worst of all, their pots filled with burning mixture were also running out...
