Chapter 354: Chapter 345 Building Defense

Within the Moving Island city.

The Third Level mutant creatures caused significant trouble for the soldiers, but the soldiers gained the upper hand with their numbers.

No matter how agile or deadly these clawed creatures were, once surrounded by the knights who had activated the Aura Barrier, they stood no chance of survival.

The mutant creatures were scattered throughout the city, so soldiers never encountered more than two Third Level mutants at once.

Overall, about 3,000 mutant creatures were hidden in the city, of which around 250 were Third Level.

Most common zombies were Third Level, though there were some Fourth Level mutants.

Completely clearing the Ark took roughly half a day.

During this time, the riders eliminated all zombies hidden in the pits.

The engineer team also completed constructing the first line of defense and built a road from the Shelter to the frontline.

The Earth Mage leveled the ground, paving a wide road with stones.

Of course, this road wouldn’t last forever; they’d need it for at most a week.

Once the road was open, the soldiers immediately began scavenging supplies within the city.

They took anything of value—books, artwork, artifacts, precious metals...

While scavenging the city, recycling operations were also underway in the surrounding areas.

They rented heavy construction equipment from Lille, Cologne, and Düsseldorf to demolish city walls and buildings.

Occasionally, Da Chuan would transform into a Giant Dragon to move heavy objects, and to be fair, Solomon would also transform into a Stone Giant to help.

The city had to be demolished because it was too difficult to defend.

If zombies broke through the frontline and flooded the streets, they would have to clear the city again, which would be a huge waste of time.

While the city was being dismantled, brick by brick, Professor Mark and a group of scientists built a temporary laboratory near the pass leading to the Shelter.

They planted mushroom trees, installed scientific equipment, and soon acquired some intriguing data.

"Look at this, Professor Mark!" a scientist from Hilania exclaimed, pointing at a small branch emerging from the ground.

This was one of the eight mushroom saplings they had planted.

"Fascinating..." the professor murmured, watching the sapling’s life force continually strengthen.

"It’s growing!" another scientist shouted.

So, they all ran toward the sixth and smallest sapling.

"What was its original size?"

"8.544 centimeters. It’s grown 0.11 centimeters in the past fifteen minutes."

"How about the soil samples?"

"Collected every five minutes."

"Excellent! Let’s separate and continue observing. When will the air analysis equipment arrive?!" Mark demanded sharply.

The scientists divided eight independent sections, each a hundred yards apart, planted saplings, and began analysis.

According to the professor, if they could understand how this unusual tree operated and learn to replicate its activities.

They could save not only Earth but other planets too.

"Boss, do you think there’s treasure in here? Or maybe monsters we’ve never seen before, like the one in the Hirania Bunker? Or perhaps..."

"Piero, if there are traps in the maze, it’s too late by the time you notice, because you don’t watch where you’re going."

Lin Yi interrupted the mage, deliberately slowing his pace.

Piero, walking ahead of him, began to feel nervous.

The entrance to the maze was hidden in an unremarkable building that might have once been some sort of temple or church.

This maze was immense.

It extended across the entire city and had multiple levels.

The underground tunnels were quite narrow, so only a small team was dispatched below.

Scouts with clairvoyant abilities scanned the maze from above and guided the team as they advanced.

The underground area was truly maze-like, judging from the humanoid skeletons scattered about, many had perished here.

The corridor they were in was six meters wide and six meters tall but would sometimes shrink to half that size.

There were no traps here, but the complexity of the maze itself more than compensated for that.

So after wandering aimlessly for an hour, Lin Yi grew impatient and summoned a scout.

Progress sped up considerably.

They managed to turn a dead-end. Into a shortcut, and before long, the team arrived at a small metal door.

"So eerie..." Piero murmured.

"They must have passed through here to escape the zombies."

Lin Yi said, looking at the hundreds of skeletons in front of the door. Most of them were women and children...

In fact, they all were.

"Did zombies kill them?"

"It was hunger and thirst that claimed their lives."

Lin Yi shook his head, stepped forward, and drew out a Light Beam Sword to cut open the door.

A minute later, the door shattered, raising a cloud of dust.

Once inside.

They found a small reinforced room designed to withstand invaders.

The room was scattered with various items, including semi-decomposed arrows, long spears with very low durability, nearly rotten shields, and rusty swords.

[Long Spear, Second Level]

A light, well-balanced weapon specifically crafted for the Royal Guard. Six meters long, weighing 1.7 pounds.

[Wooden Shield, Second Level]

A sturdy shield that has proven its effectiveness and utility over two hundred years.

Attack Power: 11, Durability: 3/90

There were 307 shields, and 95 long spears here.

The team continued ahead, occasionally stumbling upon something intriguing.
