Apocalypse: Hero of Potato Fields-Chapter 367 - 353: New Survivors Arrive (Part 2)
"What about drugs, rape, and betrayal?"
"None!" The child shook his head vigorously, "I’m not a bad person, I would never do such things..."
"Pass, next one!" Philip didn’t listen to Rudy’s silly excuses and let him through.
Then he started questioning a nineteen-year-old kid waiting behind him.
Rudy passed through the checkpoint, feeling a bit confused.
When Philip asked if he had ever killed anyone, he thought his secret would be discovered, but he was allowed to pass.
He now found himself in a spacious open area, where a large group of people were busy arranging tables and chairs.
"Hey, kid! You passed the check, right? Give me a hand, will you?" A man in a Shelter work uniform said.
Unlike the white civilian uniforms, his was gray, made from a different kind of silk, more durable and easier to clean.
This uniform could enhance attributes and looked quite fashionable.
"Huh? Oh, okay!" Rudy smiled and ran over to help the man.
There was no doubt now, he definitely could stay!
"Thanks," the man nodded, "I’ll arrange the tables, you do the chairs."
"Got it!"
There were more people than Lin Yi expected, so they had to add many tables and chairs at the last minute.
"Sir, what is this place?" Rudy asked the man, who was conjuring tables out of thin air.
He only needed to walk to the right spot, wave his hand, and a table would appear.
Of course, he would then need to adjust it slightly to ensure the table was level.
"It’s some kind of subspace or something," the man scratched the back of his head.
"Hahaha! Don’t look at me like that, you’ll understand soon enough. Seriously, kid, you’re really lucky to get here. It’s basically like finding paradise in Hell."
"You’re not joking, are you?" The child’s eyes sparkled with hope.
"Haha! Once they bring the food, you’ll know what I mean. They say this place will become the new Earth, and everyone on Earth will move here."
Rudy just smiled.
It all sounded crazy to him.
He continued arranging chairs, and soon other newcomers joined him.
About half an hour later, the huge open space was filled with tables, chairs, crates, barrels, boxes, and anything that could serve as a table or chair.
"Nice job, kid," said the man arranging the tables, "Now head over there. Tell them Uncle Pavel sent you."
"Thank you." Rudy nodded and walked in the direction the strange Russian man pointed.
He soon arrived at some tables with huge metal barrels on them.
Many people were busy doing something there.
"Uh, excuse me... Uncle Pavel sent me," Rudy said to a girl there.
"Got it, we won’t be serving meals for another half hour, but I think you can have some food before then."
The girl rummaged under the table and took out a crate of plates.
Soon, Rudy’s plate was piled high with food, including meat, mashed potatoes, salad, and several slices of bread.
"Eat up, I gotta run."
"Huh? What... what?!" When Rudy realized what he had received, he could hardly believe his eyes.
His nose confirmed that his eyes hadn’t deceived him.
"Thank you!" he shouted to the girl.
"Huh? Eat up." The girl smiled when she saw the boy’s shocked expression.
"Can I... share this food with my friends?"
"You can do whatever you want, but they will get their own food too. Bye." The girl shrugged and then ran off to continue her work.
Rudy stood there holding his plate for a while, and eventually couldn’t help but take a bite.
"Oh my... this is delicious!" He held back tears of joy.
He and his friends had only ever eaten scraps and edible biomass that tasted like plastic...
Occasionally, he would find canned food in the suburbs, but he never ate it, always trading it for more basic food to fill his stomach.
The cooks soon finished their work, and everyone was invited to take a seat at the tables.
Many soldiers maintained order, so everyone was well-behaved.
Plus, they were promised that there was plenty of food for everyone, and they could eat as much as they wanted.
"Mom, will we get to eat that green stuff again?" a nine-year-old girl asked her about thirty-year-old mother.
A man of the same age, tall and strong, stood with them.
He didn’t say much because he was busy scanning the area.
"Did you like it? ... I don’t know, but they promised us food. Isn’t that nice?" The woman smiled, stroking the girl’s head.
"Mom, Mom! What’s over there? It smells so good!" The girl tugged at her mother’s skirt.
Each row had two tables, and both tables in each group had identical food.
Each table had six large pots.
"Dear!" The woman exclaimed, turning to her husband.
"Oh my god..." the man murmured.
He lifted the lid of a giant pot to find... patties! Lots of patties! 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝙚𝔀𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝒐𝒎
"Hopefully, this isn’t human meat..." the man said, immediately cooling his wife’s enthusiasm.
"Check the next one... potatoes! Cooked potatoes!
"I want potatoes, Mom! I haven’t had them in so long," the girl tugged at her mother’s skirt again.
"And there’s soup," the man said.
"Can you hurry, please?" Someone near them said, "Others are still waiting."
"Oh, sorry!" The woman said, turning to start serving food for herself and her daughter.
There was soup, potatoes, patties, bread, oatmeal, juice, coffee, and fruit...
After serving, they were led to a table where others were already feasting.
"Dear! Look how much more food others took compared to us..."
The other survivors had twice the food because her husband insisted they shouldn’t take too much!
"Let’s see if you can finish what you’ve taken first," the man shook his head, "They promised that we could help ourselves in an hour."
"What if there’s no food left by then? Look at all these people!" his wife retorted.
"Mom, Mom!" The little girl shouted, tugging at her mother’s skirt.
"What?!"
"Dragons! Real dragons!" The girl pointed to the sky.
"Come on, don’t... huh?!" The woman looked up and saw two dragons, a massive golden giant dragon and a smaller silver giant dragon.
The silver one smacked the golden giant dragon on the head with its paw.
The golden giant dragon grabbed the silver dragon tightly, making it unable to move, then flew towards a massive building in the distance...
As more people sat down at the tables, the couple watched their reactions to the food with curiosity.
Only a few could calmly enjoy the sumptuous meal.
Many couldn’t believe this was really happening...
