Apocalypse Landlord: My Tenants Are All Beautiful Heroines.-Chapter 36: Accidental Vampire
Amaela groggily opened her eyes to familiar goblin snarls. For a year, those snarls had been her only companion. As strange as it sounded, without the voices she would have probably gone insane by now.
She picked up her cracked lens and got off the bed. As she did, her eyes fell on her reflection in the mirror. Her skin was paler than it had ever been before, and the dark circles under her eyes had already become a defining feature of hers.
An oversized t-shirt clung to her body as she walked to the balcony.
"Alright... let’s try this one more time..." she mumbled, reaching for the thick curtain.
Taking a deep breath, she pulled the corners, letting sunlight in. She looked away as she put her bare feet in the sunlight of the setting sun.
At first, nothing happened, but before she could sigh in relief, the pain hit her again.
"SON OF A BITCH!"
Amaela screamed, holding her burned leg while jumping around the room on the other.
"Stupid, stupid, stupid!" she kept cursing.
As the apartment building’s resident hikikomori, Amaela genuinely didn’t know about the apocalypse until electricity and water died. By then, her entire floor was overrun with goblins.
But it was fine. She had plenty of food. After all, she was a farm streamer. She never showed herself on camera, but showed off creative ways to farm food inside her home.
People liked her unique content, and that’s how she earned money for the expenses. So she had plenty of mushrooms and potatoes to last her a couple of months.
Surely someone would come and rescue her... right?
Unfortunately, no one did. Her floor was already overrun by goblins, remember?
Instead, those who could have helped thought no one had survived and blocked the entire floor. Not that it mattered to Amaela, because the door to her unit had already been blocked thanks to the pile of corpses the goblins, for some fucking reason, decided to store there.
And so Amaela survived with food, but there was one problem. She didn’t have any water. The fish tanks, toilet seat, and everything that once stored water had been sipped dry by her.
But there was something she could drink and use to water the potatoes... blood.
The monster and human corpses piled outside her room kept bleeding from where the goblins had stabbed them. That blood had been seeping into her apartment from under the door.
So, like any ’sane’ person would, she placed bedsheets, towels, and anything that could retain moisture behind the door.
Once the clothes had absorbed enough ’fluids’, as she called them, Amaela dumped all that into her farm and also used cola bottles and cans before drinking them.
Everything was fine until three months ago.
She got up to resume her ritual of draining fluids. Just as she entered the well-lit living room, her body suddenly started burning.
She jumped back inside her room, only to see her reflection in the mirror and cry out in horror. Her blue eyes had turned crimson, and her skin had turned completely pale as if all the blood had been drained out of her.
Then she saw a screen floating next to her.
It was just like those novels and comics she had been reading to keep her sanity in the apocalypse. However, the words written on the panel drained what little blood she might have left in her body.

[You have evolved into a Strigoi!]
Yeah... she became a twisted version of a vampire after drinking liters of blood. Even then, her habits didn’t change. Although she went out to hunt sleeping goblins now and then, her primary food source remained potatoes grown on rotten blood.
"Stupid! Stupid! Stupid!"
Just thinking of the past got Amaela cursing herself once again. She was in the middle of her cursing session when her sharp hearing picked up something.
"Footsteps!"
Amaela’s dead eyes suddenly sparked with life. She didn’t know how long it had been since she heard such loud footsteps, but she knew one thing: The goblins didn’t move like that. It had to be a rescue team.
She quickly grabbed a hoodie, intending to take a look. That’s when she heard it.
Bang!
The gunshot killed a goblin, but also froze Amaela to the spot. She looked at her pale body and blood-red eyes in the mirror.
She was a monster now...
She looked human for the most part, but Amaela didn’t know if the humans would think like that. Besides, for all she knew, the apartment was probably filled with monsters. What if they killed her instead of helping her?
"Hah! I’m a vampire now! Bullets can’t kill me... right?"
Amaela shook her head and lightly slapped her cold cheeks. She can’t stay holed up in her apartment anymore. While she was surviving, her blood supply had dwindled considerably.
"What if they kill all the goblins? I won’t have any food left! No, I can’t let that happen... but if I side with goblins, they’ll shoot me..."
Amaela pulled her hair in frustration. She would die if she left the room and would still die if she didn’t... which was embarrassing considering she was a vampire now.
"ARGH! What do I do? Maybe I should ask them for blood? No, they’ll kill me either way. Ugh... I don’t wanna die so soon!"
Just then, another gunshot rang out, followed by a goblin’s pained scream that cut off abruptly.
"...my food," she mumbled, her expression akin to a kid who had their pizza slice stolen. "Fuck it... just take a look then decide what to do. It’s not like they can see me in the dark. Yes. Just a glance is enough."
With that thought, she pulled the oversized hoodie cap to cover most of her face before calming her nerves. Living as an idle vampire wasn’t as terrifying to her as the thought of leaving her home.
"You’re a vampire now! Have some courage!"
She just stepped out when her head hit something.
What’s this? Feels soft... wait, it’s fur?
She looked up, only to see the owner of that furry back staring back at her. The creature was standing on its hind legs, which were also covered in red fur.
For one long second, neither of them moved. Then... the proud vampire lost her mind.
"AAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!!!"
