Chapter 44: Infinite Loop Paradox

One percent of infinity was still infinity.

As for why Aiden assumed his own strength was infinite, it was due to the nature of the system. In its own words, Aiden was the strongest while inside the sanctuary barrier.

In other words, as long as someone stronger than him existed inside the barrier, his strength would automatically increase to surpass them.

So, did it mean Karina was as strong as Aiden?

It’s more complex than a simple yes or no.

Logically speaking, they were stuck in an endless loop.

The moment Karina inherited partner status, her strength jumped. When that happened, the system increased Aiden’s strength so he’d continue being the strongest. The partner status then transferred more strength to Karina, and the loop continued.

When that happened faster than the system’s clock speed, it would crash.

At least that’s what should have happened.

Instead, when it reached the limit, the system triggered a safety protocol. It was something even Aiden couldn’t comprehend.

[A union has been identified.]

[A singular entity block has been established.]

[Household protocol is in effect.]

English, please.

[The safety protocol that is in place to ensure the Landlord is the strongest has been transferred to a singular entity: The Landlord’s Household, instead of the landlord himself.]

Aiden still didn’t know what that supposedly solved. At least, not at first.

Essentially, instead of viewing Aiden and Karina as separate entities, the system classified them as a singular household.

The power loop had begun due to Aiden and Karina being valued separately. Now that they were considered the same, the power loop ceased to exist, as there was no one to compare their strength to.

Wait, a second. If that’s the case, then there’s no point in assigning the partner status.

[The bonus will still take effect once they leave the household’s domain, that is, the sanctuary barrier.]

Aiden was surprised at the system’s quick resolution. They were viewed as a singular entity only when Karina was within the barrier. The moment she steps outside, her strength would increase infinitely.

Damn, it almost makes me want to send her to wreck that uncle of hers.

The betrayal over the promised Evo-Gear wasn’t forgotten. Aiden just didn’t want to trigger Karina’s ill will. However, now that she was literally infatuated with him, who was going to stop him from making his move?

But before that... 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝐰𝚎𝕓𝐧𝚘𝘃𝗲𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝕞

He brought her face closer and kissed her slowly. Unlike last night when they were too focused on carnal desires, the kiss seemed pure. Well, as pure as a kiss from a demon lord could feel.

"If you’ve had your fill, could you let me go?" he whispered, breaking the kiss.

Karina shyly looked at him. Her eyes were shimmering, just like the strand of saliva that linked their lips.

"Too tired," she mumbled, quickly lying back on Aiden’s chest.

Right. Having sex turned her into a brat.

Without another word, he turned her over. Now, he was the one pinning her down. The sight of her firm breasts triggered him a bit. If not for the effects of last night, he would have started all over again.

A kiss would have to do for now.

Before Karina could even process what was happening, he leaned in and kissed her again. Karina wrapped her arms around his neck, letting him do as he pleased with his tongue.

So this is how it feels to be loved...

Karina thought, and her mood lifted considerably.

Aiden was correct. She had been awake for a while now. While he was conversing with the system, she was panicking, wondering what Aiden thought of her.

Did he like her? Did he take pity on her and have sex? Did he accept her with all her flaws?

All the questions were answered with his kiss.

Maybe... I have fallen for him.

After a few minutes of making out, Aiden jumped off the bed. As much as he would love to fuck her again, he couldn’t do it for the moment.

She had screamed like a banshee last night, and my horny ass didn’t stop her.

The apartments had to have solid soundproofing so that others would not have heard their passion. He didn’t want to coax Alisha’s jealous ass.

In hindsight, it was a good thing.

Aiden found it odd how Alisha’s feelings for him weren’t skyrocketing like Karina’s. Now he could guess why. She had known him for too long and didn’t have that ’spark’ of desire like Karina had for him.

Most likely, she couldn’t separate me from the boy the previous owner of this body was.

Now she knew otherwise.

Aiden could worry about her later, for now, he had something else to deal with.

"Get dressed," he told Karina. "I’ll be back soon. We got a few things to discuss."

Seeing him go back to his usual self made Karina push her lovey-dovey persona down as well.

"If it’s about the Evo-Gear, don’t worry, I was planning on dealing with it," she said, cracking her knuckles.

Aiden was pleasantly surprised to see her take the initiative. He thought he would have to coax her into it, but that didn’t seem necessary anymore.

***

The corridor should have been deserted, given that it was early morning. Instead, Aiden saw the wolves moving up and about. They saw him too and smiled, giving him a thumbs up.

Yup, they know.

If the residents of the farthest room heard Karina, then everyone else did it too. Just as he reached the workshop, James popped out of there.

"Nice one, B-Boss!" James chimed in, copying the wolves. "It was all thanks to you that I could stay awake and learn about this facility."

The corners of Aiden’s mouth twitched as he was taken aback. The guy stayed up listening to him having sex and was now thanking him?

A green hat isn’t enough for him. His entire wardrobe should be green.

Aiden shook that thought out of his mind and turned serious.

"So, did you make any progress?" he asked.

"Um... n-no. Even with a workshop manual, I was told my understanding is too low to work on anything beyond basic grade."

Aiden nodded. He had expected something like this to happen. After all, unlike the blacksmiths, James did not have any experience working in a workshop, especially with his low proficiency.

"You need to practice to improve your knowledge," he said. "Is there any item that you have experience tinkering with?"

"I don’t think I have—"

"Oh, come on, everyone has played with devices in their young days. You must have something, like a fridge, a television, radios, phones...?"

James held his chin, trying to remember, and then it hit him.

"V-Vending machines! I used to work at a gas s-station with a faulty vending m-machine that often needed fixing."

"Nice, then I’ll get you a vending machine to fix first," Aiden smiled, clapping his shoulders.

"B-But where will you get o-one from, Boss?"

"That’s for me to think. Just learn more about the workshop until I get back."

With that, Aiden went right back into Karina’s unit. James might not have noticed, or he didn’t remember, but Aiden had seen a few broken machines in the market back in the survivor camp when he used [Supervision].

Also, the vending machines gave him an idea to upgrade his class yet again.
