Chapter 113: Chapter 113 She Is Only a Friend

A brief second passed between them, and the air turned heavy with tension, making it hard to breathe.

Alexander, who was already at the end of his rope, swung his fist towards Chris’s face.

However, before his fist could touch his face, a hand suddenly caught his blow from out of nowhere. When Alexander’s gaze met the owner of the hand, his eyes narrowed.

Dylan’s hardened gaze glared at him. "Mr. Wayne, keep your hands to yourself, or I won’t be very nice." He warned.

Meanwhile, Chris stood leisurely by the door, unfazed by the fact that he had been almost punched. Amusement danced in the depths of his eyes. He tapped Dylan’s shoulder signalling him to let go of Alexander’s fist.

He had come to the fortress because of his treatment and to make sure Laurel was really the person he had been searching for. Never had he intended to fight with the Waynes, after all both the Waynes and the Lennoxs were the most influential families in the base, and if any fight sparked between them, it would be a disaster. And neither did he want to make things difficult for Laurel.

"I’ve already given you the answer Mr. Wayne," Chris said, casually placing his hands in his pocket.

Dylan glared at Alexander one last time, before letting go of his hand. Since his boss was being amicable, he stepped aside, lowering his head slightly to both of them.

Alexander cleared his throat which was already burning with emotions he could not name. His eyes trailed after Dylan, the rumoured bodyguard and secretary of Mr. Lennox who had the power of ten men. People believed he was the hellhound of Mr. Lennox, and probably the famous Mr. Lennox wouldn’t have made it to this day if it weren’t for him.

Many had tried to eliminate him from the picture to reach his boss, but no matter how hard they tried, they disappeared one way or another without a single trace.

Snapping out of his daze, Alexander fixed his sleeves before meeting Chris’s gaze again. "All you have been saying were questions..." his eyes widened slightly as realization dawned on him. He was too busy burning in his lake of anger and hatred that he missed the underlying meaning behind those questions.

"So she isn’t here?" Alexander’s gaze hardened the more, because if Laurel wasn’t here, where else could she be?

"Maybe you should check the warehouse close to the entrance gate of the fortress," Chris said from the goodness of his heart.

"You better not be playing with me." Alexander glanced at both of them before turning to walk away. His footsteps echoed against the cold surface of the floor, the sound retreating further away.

The moment Alexander walked out of their sight, Dylan walked towards Chris. "Mr. Lennox, were you really going to let him punch you moments ago?" He asked as if he was hurt by his action.

Chris stared at him, and an emotion that resembled anger flashed through his eyes. He let out a sigh. "You ruined my plan." He muttered. "I was about to get more time with her."

Dylan frowned. "Don’t tell me you would let him punch your face so you could have more time with his wife?"

Chris was the only person he had respected most in his life, and that was because of his morals. The Mr. Lennox he knew would never get close to another man’s wife... why was he trying so hard to get close to Mrs. Wayne?

"Boss, she is a married woman, shouldn’t you keep your distance from her? I know she is your doctor but any man in Mr. Wayne’s shoes will get mad seeing how hard you are trying to get to his wife." Dylan said cautiously. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝚠𝚎𝚋𝗻𝗼𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝚘𝐦

Chris glanced at him, his gaze returning to the usual cold ones. "You think I would take his wife from him?" He asked.

Dylan immediately shook his head.

"I won’t take his wife from him... except she walked right into my arms," Chris said, his voice low and a little hoarse.

"But you would never take a woman who is already married, because you believed there were too many unnecessary strings... why are you changing your morals for someone you barely know?"

Chris chuckled. "She is only a friend, Dylan, Mr. Wayne is only insecure because he knows his wife doesn’t have feelings for him. And I have to take the blame because she is seeing me... anyway, look into why he is looking for her and get back to me as soon as possible." Chris said, brushing off the moral talk.

"Yes, boss." Without any more questions, Dylan lowered his head before turning to walk away.

Chris’s gaze lingered in the hallway with a frown... he hadn’t realized how close he was to breaking his code of conduct. Was it just a mere curiosity or were there feelings getting attached, he believed it was the former.

With a deep sigh, he turned back inside his apartment and shut the door behind him.

...

Back in the space room, Luo’s snoring noise echoed through the hall in a rhythmic pattern. Its chest rose and fell with every breath it took.

The system’s screen remained in its position, hovering mid-air, ensuring nothing went wrong with the awakening.

The half-black and half-white lotus hovered midair, and the yin-yang symbols continued spinning slowly underneath them.

It had been hours now, and there was still no sign of them getting awake.

[Sigh.]

The system sighed, after another couple of hours had passed.

Just then, the petals of the lotus began opening slowly, layer after layer until it got to the core, revealing Ling Xuan and Laurel in their fetal position.

The lotus flower slowly dissipated into shimmers before vanishing into thin air. Then, the yin-yang spinning underneath them suddenly shone brighter, almost blinding.

Luo, who had been sleeping, woke up immediately when it felt the fluctuation of the energy. Luo floated hurriedly midair, its mouth formed an o when its gaze fell on them.

The yin-yang energy was gone, and then they slowly descended to their feet.
