Chapter 91: Chapter 91 I Heard She is Pretty

Meanwhile, back in the valley, the day went by slowly.

At dawn, everyone in the fortress had already woken up, running laps around the districts. As they were running the fourth lap, a woman fell to the ground.

"I can’t continue anymore." She shook her head.

The soldier leading the group approached her. "After this lap, we will call it a day." He said, although he tried to sound polite, his words were rough.

The woman burst out in tears. "What is this? We don’t have any right to do what we want, it feels like slavery. I don’t want to train anymore, I just want to go home!"

Before the soldier could respond, another soldier with red ginger hair approached him. "Another over-pampered heiress I see."

The moment the soldier saw him. "Andrew, help me deal with this one and I’ll give you a bottle of gin." He whispered into his ear.

Andrew glanced at him, before a warm smile graced his lips. "Sure, Roy." He tapped Roy’s shoulder before walking towards the woman.

"Miss..." He said as he stretched one of his hands to her.

"L-Lucy." She stammered, her gaze meeting his.

"Miss Lucy, are you alright?" He said with a polite smile. His smile was so dazzling that Lucy couldn’t help but get lost in his charm.

Lucy quickly nodded her head, hesitantly placing her hand in his. With one single pull, she was back on her feet, and a pink hue tinted her cheeks as she fidgeted with her hand.

"She said she can’t run anymore and wants to go back home," Roy said, his voice a little grumpy.

"When did I say that... I can still run four more laps." She quickly remained, her gaze hardening as they glared at Roy, but the moment her gaze moved back to Andrew, they softened.

"I won’t keep the rest of the group waiting... see you soon... sir." Without waiting, Lucy resumed running again, ignoring the pain burning through her.

Roy’s jaw dropped the moment he saw her running again. He was certain that if Andrew didn’t come to his aid, she would have caused a huge commotion... but because of Andrew she immediately started running and she could run four more laps?

Roy felt betrayed. His gaze flickered to his friend Andrew, the master of women’s hearts. He swallowed the bitter feeling rising in his throat.

Andrew gestured to him to pay the other end of the deal.

Roy reached into his pants and brought out a gin which he handed reluctantly to Andrew.

"Thank you." Andrew chuckled, and he began to jog behind the group which was now far from them.

Roy sighed before joining Andrew.

"Have you seen the commander?" Roy asked, his black short hair bouncing slightly as he jogged.

"I heard she is pretty," Andrew replied, smirking at Roy.

Roy almost rolled his eyes. "Mind your language Andrew, she didn’t hesitate to throw her sister-in-law out of the fortress." He warned.

Andrew’s gaze darkened the moment he heard ’sister-in-law’. How could he forget the dog that almost ripped out his flesh? His eyes flickered to his left hand which was bandaged, and he gritted his teeth in anger.

"Fine, I’ll try not to woo her since she is married, but why are you asking me if I have seen her before?" Andrew asked. The training camp was already appearing in their view.

"I heard there is already a faint division among the soldiers, some soldiers believe she is worthy of the title commander, since she has managed to keep the fortress safe during the time of crisis. However, others claimed they came because of Mr. Lennox and they would only follow him.

Although the division is not apparent yet, I fear some soldiers will refuse her orders. I’m asking you about her because I wanted to know what you think of her." Roy said, his breath uneven, and sweat trickled down his temple.

Andrew’s eyes narrowed slightly. "I can’t say for now if she is worthy to follow, but I believe time will tell. Mr. Lennox brought us here, not only did he save our lives but I believe he wanted us to follow Mrs. Wayne. I hope he will take care of this issue."

Roy’s feet faltered the moment they entered the camp.

"Why are you stopping?" Andrew asked as he too stopped beside him.

"Look, it’s the commander." Roy tilted his head to Laurel’s direction.

Ahead of them, Ling Xuan was wearing a black t-shirt tucked into fitted combat pants, her long hair pulled into a high ponytail. The early sunlight rested softly on her shoulders, but the air around her carried a quiet tension.

Five soldiers had formed a loose circle around her.

Roy frowned slightly. "Is this... training?"

Andrew did not respond immediately. His eyes moved over their stances, their spacing, and the way they shifted their weight.

"No," he said calmly. "It isn’t."

Ling Xuan rolled her shoulders as if she were warming up. Her gaze was cold and her face held no expression. "You asked for a demonstration," she said. "So come."

One of the soldiers let out a short scoff. He was the tallest among them, broad and confident.

"Commander," he stressed the title mockingly, "we just want to see what you can do."

Ling Xuan tilted her head slightly. "Then stop talking."

The soldier lunged at her immediately with impeccable speed. 𝓯𝓻𝓮𝙚𝙬𝓮𝙗𝒏𝙤𝒗𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝒐𝓶

She stepped sideways before his hand could even brush her shirt, her palm striking sharply into his ribs. The force knocked the air straight out of him. He staggered, his eyes widened, and before he could steady himself, her foot hooked behind his ankle and with a swift twist he hit the ground hard.

The other four froze in their spot, a stunned look marred their face.

Roy blinked. "That was quick."

Andrew’s lips parted slightly. "Watch carefully, we might learn a thing or two from this fight."

Another soldier rushed in from behind, trying to catch her off guard.

Ling Xuan ducked at the last moment, dodging beneath his arms, she caught his wrist and rotated it in a swift movement.

A sharp crack filled the air.

The soldier dropped to his knees with a strangled groan, his arm forced behind him.
