Chapter 529: Chapter 529: Supporting the Defensive Barrier

"You did very well. Your sister would be very proud of you." Ye Xuan reassured the boy before giving him some food as well.

His food was different from the others. Even though it was cooked in the Soul Ring as well, only the fish had spiritual energy.

This was to prevent him from getting hurt because he can’t digest too much spiritual energy in the food within a short time.

Once he was done there, Ye Xuan headed to the South where Grandpa Chu was leading the fighters together with his long-time friend, Grandpa Li.

Grandpa Chu had used so much spiritual energy while in the battlefield that he was completely exhausted and resting in a small tent set up for him and his friend.

The two were already cultivating to recover.

They hadn’t been in a battlefield for a long time and apart from when zombies appeared first, they hadn’t joined the younger generation in hunting for zombies since the zombies started evolving.

Today when they had to fight intelligent zombies that knew how to dodge attacks, unlike before when they would keep attacking even when facing complete annihilation was a new experience.

It also made their blood boil as if they were back in their days, fighting enemy soldiers in the battlefield.

Grandpa Chu even had a premonition while in the battle, as if he had gone back to being the feared general of Wuxin Kingdom who struck fear in anyone who dared to cross him.

That energy and those memories were the reason he had gone all out in the battle and ended up eliminating most of the zombies attacking the base.

Ye Xuan interrupted their meditation and had them eat first since the food was also a source of spiritual energy.

It would help them recover faster and they could go back to the battlefield if they wanted to once dawn broke.

"Thank you, Ah Xuan. You have worked hard.

How is the situation in the other areas?" Grandpa Chu graciously accepted the food and invited his friend to eat while talking to his future grandson-in-law.

"The losses are within the acceptable range. There are many injured survivors but they have been treated and will survive with some care and rest.

Some ordinary people have also awakened special abilities after being injured and treated.

It is expected that if there is another battle in the future, humans will have a higher chance of winning because of the increase in superpower users." Ye Xuan always respected Grandpa Chu. Even though he didn’t like to talk much except with his girlfriend, he knew what family meant to Chu Miao and he respected them like they were his own family.

Even after remembering his identity as the King of the Immortal Realm, he didn’t change his attitude.

"That’s a blessing in disguise indeed, but don’t let my daughter-in-law work herself to exhaustion.

If she can help then let her help, if she can’t then let fate do the rest." Grandpa Chu knew how his daughter-in-law was, so he had to urge her to work in moderation.

If he knew she had already worked herself to the point of collapse and her dantian nearly cracked, he would probably stop her from healing any more patients.

However, Ye Xuan wasn’t privy to this information yet, so he just let the comment pass.

"You can leave the food for the others here. They are a little busy organizing the fighters and will come back later.

Eating this will help them to recover faster." Grandpa Li could tell that Ye Xuan wanted to leave so he mentioned this.

Ye Xuan put a few more food containers in the tent and base farewell after explaining that the battle will resume at dawn.

Back to the North where the main gate to the base was and where Ye Xuan and Chu Miao were holding the fort, Ye Xuan entered their tent and found his mother-in-law in deep meditation and Chu Miao also cultivating.

When she felt another presence in the tent, Chu Miao opened her eyes, only to find her boyfriend looking passionately at her.

She took a deep breath before speaking, "How long before dawn?"

"Probably another two hours. But the zombies have crossed the trenches and are trying to break down the defensive barrier, then there will be nothing stopping them from climbing into the base." Ye Xuan explained.

"Did you remind the other to inject spiritual energy into the barrier to stabilize it?" Chu Miao asked.

"Yes, it won’t break, don’t worry." Ye Xuan reassured her. 𝘧𝓇ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝘣𝓃ℴ𝓋𝑒𝑙.𝑐𝘰𝑚

"Okay..." just as they were speaking, someone outside the tent called out to Chu Miao.

Chu Miao didn’t want her mother to be disturbed, so she stood up and walked out.

She found the beautiful middle-aged woman who seemed to admire President Yu standing outside the tent anxiously.

"What happened?" Chu Miao asked.

"Ah! Little Miao, the soldiers guarding the barrier you set up reported some cracks appearing in the air. So we assumed it was the barrier starting to crack. It’s still not dawn yet. What should we do?" The middle-aged woman asked anxiously as she grabbed Chu Miao by her hands and spoke fast.

"That was faster than expected. Don’t worry, we will reinforce it. They won’t be able to break through before dawn." Chu Miao reassured her, then began walking towards the wall.

Chu Miao had expected the zombies to break through the barrier that night, but she hadn’t expected them to be so fast. It was at least thirty minutes sooner than the expected time.

The woman heaved a sigh of relief and followed behind Chu Miao, who was walking side-by-side with Ye Xuan at a leisurely pace.

The woman nearly wanted to grab the two and run forward because she was anxious and didn’t know when the barrier would break.

However, the two seemed to be admiring the view even though it was night time.

She had to use all her self-control to stop herself from urging them.

However, not everyone was so gracious.

As soon as Chu Miao and Ye Xuan appeared near the wall, a disgruntled voice was heard.

Thank you everyone for your support. I really appreciate you coming this far in the story. It motivates me to keep working on it even when I am nursing a bad cold and headache like today.

Wish me luck 🤞
