Apocalypse: Transmigrated General's Daughter Uses Space to Survive-Chapter 556: Lauda’s Punishment
"Sure. Alright, I want to go check on the crops outside. How is the farm doing?" Grandpa Chu stood up as he spoke.
The others followed behind him as they spoke about various things going on in the sect.
Chu Miao took Ye Xuan to a spot behind one of the buildings. It was a veranda that had been expanded with concrete and couldn’t be farmed.
Apart from using the roofs of the building, this was the only place on the ground that hadn’t been farmed or turned into another type of garden.
The two took three hours to set up three small teleportation arrays and set up a restriction around the veranda. This was to stop children who were playing and running around from intruding on it and activating the arrays by accident.
They would be sent away and since it was random, getting them back would need someone strong with a strong divine sense to comb through the city to find them. If it takes time and they happen to have fallen in a horde of zombies, they would have been torn to shreds by then.
So, it was better to take precautions.
"We should assign a few people to guard the arrays. They will help those leaving to activate the array and register them. They will also register those coming back to help us keep track of our losses. It will also provide extra security in case children with special physiques intrude this place." Chu Miao suggested to Ye Xuan and he nodded in agreement.
"You have a point. Some physiques can ignore barriers. Have Yang Leo choose a few people to work in shifts. Six hour shifts should be good, they will be paid and work for six hours everyday. This way, they would also have time to cultivate and do other stuff."
"Mmm.... let’s go and inform the leaders. The teams that are ready to leave can go now."
The two talked as they walked back to the now crowded square.
"What is happening here?" Chu Miao asked in surprise.
The square was so crowded that people were spilling over to the gardens and farms. She hadn’t expected the sect to have so many people now. It seemed that they couldn’t take in any more people.
Even there plans to go around the world and bring back people from other countries will have to wait for them to expand the base.
They would probably have to knock down the wall on the side of the commercial street near their community area and use the commercial buildings as residence.
"You don’t know?" Someone turned to Chu Miao and asked.
"Know what?" Chu Miao asked in return.
"Someone violated the sect rules and caused people to be injured. Now that his fate has been decided, elder Yang will pass judgment in public. I heard that he will be cut into pieces and fed to those beasts in the sect." He replied to Chu Miao, which shocked her.
Didn’t they agree to expel Lauda and give him some supplies for his survival? When was the punishment changed to becoming cutting him into pieces and feeding him to demon beasts?
"Your information is wrong." Another person rebuked the first one.
Chu Miao breathed a sigh of relief when she heard that. At least, it wasn’t the truth.
"Then what is the truth?" The first one asked angrily about being questioned.
"I heard that because his mistake caused others to be attacked by zombies and almost killed, he will also be thrown in the middle of a group of zombies and left to break out himself. This way, he will feel the pain and despair the others felt when they were surrounded." The second one replied and Chu Miao nearly choked to death on air.
How can these people make up such stories in such a short time? Who started them anyway? She didn’t dare to ask again because she was afraid of hearing even more exaggerated punishments.
Soon, Lauda was brought to a raised platform in the square.
Yang Leo was the one passing the judgement.
"Everyone, quiet." He instructed and the square became as quiet as a grave. Not even a whisper could be heard. The people didn’t even dare to breathe loudly.
Chu Miao and Ye Xuan were surprised. Such discipline was shocking even in the military.
"As you all know, some sect members encountered misfortune outside because of the negligence of one of us. Lauda was supposed to make sure that he had the information about the surroundings to help those going out prepare. But he ignored his duty and gave false information, causing other sect members to fall into danger and almost die in the hands of zombies. For this mistake, a judgement has been passed. Lauda will be expelled from the sect and forbidden from ever returning. He will be provided with supplies to help him survive while he looks for new shelter. This will serve as a warning to you all. Remember to do your duties as assigned or this will be your fate." Yang Leo read the judgement and while murmurs started circulating in the crowd, Lauda fell to the ground wearing a blank expression.
He had been in the sect for a few months and his life was better than even before the apocalypse. Because of this good treatment, he had let his guard down and slacked off a few times.
Nothing happened before, but this time, people got hurt. He hadn’t expected the punishment to be so severe.
Even when he was thrown into the dungeon to wait for judgement, he had thought that he would just be punished by getting locked up. But now, he was being expelled.
How was he going to live after leaving here? Where was he going to find another place with such good treatment? How long will he last out there alone?
Without knowing, tears welled up in his eyes but the people had already been ordered to disperse.
Lauda being expelled publicly was to send a warning to others who were just like him. Those who had settled into the comfortable life and forgotten where they came from.
