Chapter 101: Chapter 101: The Base’s Improvement

Su Yining did occasional checks on the Green Sector room, where Wan Lan and other beastmen were doing their farming.

At first, they didn’t recognize chili and carrots because these two types of plants had evolved a lot from their original form after the apocalypse happened.

Edible carrots still existed, but the color had undergone great change. It became reddish, like blood and its texture became softer. It was edible but definitely tasted bad. Beastmen in hunting sometimes still discovered them growing in the wilderness.

As for chili... They could even kill fierce beasts which accidentally ate them. Simply poisonous for weaker beings but if a fierce beast or beastman was strong enough, the chili could still pad one’s stomach if they wouldn’t mind the spicy hell flavor.

"Miss Owner gave us this?" Wan Lan stared at the two packages of seeds as if she had just discovered a new continent.

Fang Meilin nodded solemnly. "We should fill in more polybags with soil and try to grow them."

Wan Lan and her little team had tried to experiment with all sorts of plants and farming strategies. Some succeeded, but mostly, they failed.

The female rabbit sniffed the packages and carefully opened them. Even Fang Meilin was a little nervous, helping Wan Lan to hold the package so that the seeds wouldn’t spill.

Fortunately, Wan Lan was very careful and none of the seeds spilled out.

"We should find a safe space to keep the rest of the seeds," Wan Lan said. "We will try with a few first so that we won’t waste them."

Everyone nodded at her words, anticipation building up in their chests. They had seen the picture of carrots and chilis on the seed packages and found them interesting; something they had never seen before.

Compared to hunting fierce beasts, hunting for edible plants was harder. Most fierce beasts were edible and not poisonous, but for plants, if they weren’t armed with sufficient knowledge beforehand, it could have been their last meal.

With so many poisonous plants around—or the normal plants that slowly became poisonous—it was harder to survive on wild vegetables.

Soon, Wan Lan’s team found out that every seed they planted actually sprouted, faster than any plants they have tried! Only in a few days. Even a week later, they still didn’t die.

Moreover, the plants were relatively easier to be taken care of. They still thrive even if they missed watering them once; unlike the other fragile plants they picked from the wild.

Su Yining was also satisfied with the result. She tapped on Wan Lan, Lin Yuyao, and Fang Meilin’s shoulders, expressing her satisfaction. She could see how hard these beastmen had worked for this.

They could feel her presence—the soft breeze passing by and a slight poke.

With smiles, they took it as Su Yining’s approval and were secretly happy.

She left the Green Sector and went to find Yuanyuan. He had finished setting up the teleportation array heading to the forest. This time, the landing point was actually outside the base. Right near the moat before the castle’s high fortress.

The base had registered the current beastmen as their members. As long as they didn’t leave or betray the base, they could enter and leave the base at will now.

At the front gate, the base would scan the person—opening the door for them.

Only Xie Ziyuan and Su Yining, who had the control over the base center room, could easily wipe off anyone’s name from the list or add them.

Now, in over a week’s time, more and more beastmen arrived. The remaining beastmen who still stayed at Leng Chuan’s village survived using the supplies Ma Yongcheng delivered to them.

One person would stand by the teleportation array’s eye and pick up the supplies, allowing them to survive.

"Why are you in a bad mood lately?" Su Yining seemed puzzled by Xie Ziyuan’s mood. Every time she returned from the Green Sector, he didn’t seem to be that happy. 𝒇𝒓𝙚𝒆𝔀𝓮𝓫𝒏𝓸𝙫𝓮𝓵.𝓬𝙤𝙢

The mood above his head said that he currently felt complicated. What could make him feel like that? She couldn’t figure it out.

At this time, they had just sent out the first hunting team. Ma Yongcheng and his group wouldn’t be in the base for a while.

Everyone became busy again even with less beastmen on the base.

Lu Qingtang now handled the kitchen with her team. The number of beastmen had increased greatly, so they couldn’t simply just roast their meals together on the castle’s front yard like before.

They had to prepare things more thoroughly.

Even on the Old Wang’s side, the business became better. With Wei Rong serving as a deterrent, most beastmen didn’t dare to cause trouble. There were more customers these days.

They also sold more things, especially the fierce beast parts that the base didn’t need. They were mostly fourth-rank fierce beasts and higher, so beastmen would still take them for making medicine or crafting weapons.

Although the base could feed themselves, they were still short on better clothes and most importantly, salt!

When some teams were out hunting for a longer duration, they could use salt to preserve the meat so that it wouldn’t rot.

As such, they still needed to do business in Qingluan City.

Old Wang and Duan Heng also visited the base. They even had their own rooms there too and would return occasionally.

The two of them were the ones who knew about Qingluan City the most, so of course, the mission of keeping the business fell on their shoulders. Although, occasionally, other beastmen would also join and visit them.

At this moment, Xie Ziyuan was already back at the watchtower. She poked him, waiting for him to answer her chat. However, he didn’t go to the farming space.

"Ziyuan, answer my chat!" She poked him on his cheek.

He narrowed his eyes and didn’t answer. His gaze deepened.

Instead of answering her, he did something utterly unexpected. Su Yining watched the sight with bewildered eyes.
