When Bai Meiyue woke up, she fed Ciyi, who was making a din early in the morning, because she hadn't had anything to eat since last night, and because she had used all her strength, she was starving.

Bai Zhan and the rest had already woken up long ago. The RV was already on the road, and they were now waiting for someone to cook, as they had no idea how to work in the kitchen.

On the other side, the Liu siblings also woke up. This was the best sleep that the two of them had gotten ever since the apocalypse started. Liu Mei arched her arms over her head and yawned. She turned to look at the side of her bed but didn't see her mother sleeping next to her.

When Liu Mei saw that her mother was not lying next to her, she turned worried. Where did her mother go so early in the morning?

She got up from the bed and rushed out, only to see Bai Meiyue standing in the kitchen with an apron tied around her waist. Her eyes lit up, however, before she could walk over to where Bai Meiyue was standing and greet her, she saw her brother come over. With starry-eyed, Liu Che stared at Bai Meiyue.

He looked at the woman cooking in the small kitchen of the RV, and his eyes were filled with adoration. His saviour was simply an all-rounder; she was not only good at dealing with scum, but she could even cook.

When Bai Meiyue heard a noise, she raised her head and turned to look at the man standing behind her. Seeing Liu Che standing in a daze behind her, Bai Meiyue greeted him warmly, "Good morning, did you sleep well?"

Liu Che smiled at her. He nodded, "Can I help you with something?"

Bai Meiyue shook her head and replied, "No need, I can handle it alone. You should take some more rest." She paused and added, "We are going to the safe house where we live, do you want to go with us or are you going to another base?"

Liu Che wanted to go with Bai Meiyue, but at the same time, he knew that it would be wrong for him and his sister to depend on Bai Meiyue and her team. They had no relationship with them. So, how could they stay with their team and let them take over their burden?

Even though he was reluctant to leave Bai Meiyue, Liu Che knew that he couldn't let the woman support him and his sister. He was about to refuse when —

"MOM!"

Liu Mei's mournful shout caused Liu Che to turn around and run in the direction from which the scream came.

Bai Meiyue's expression changed as well. She chased after Liu Che and barged into the restroom. What she saw made her heart fall to the deepest pit in her stomach.

Liu Che staggered to his knees when he saw what had happened to his mother. He cried out in pain, "Mom… what happened to you… How… how did this happen to you?"

Bai Meiyue's eyes were covered with frost when she saw Madam Ai's condition. It seemed like she wasn't able to change the siblings' fate in this life either.

Bai Zhan and the rest also hurried over when they heard the mournful cries of the two siblings.

They saw Madam Ai lying on the floor like a shrivelled-up corpse and sucked in a breath. Bai Jixuan and Bai Zhan, on the other hand, turned to look at Bai Meiyue, whose eyes were filled with an unyielding look.

They knew how hard Bai Meiyue had worked to rescue Madam Ai and her children. However, in the end, her hard work went down the drain.

Bai Zhan and Bai Jixuan walked over to hug Bai Meiyue as they tried to comfort her silently.

Staring at the ceiling, Madam Ai said to her children, "Meimei, Ah Che… don't cry." She coughed while breathing laboriously, trying to focus on her children.

The woman smiled bitterly, "I know—I know that I have schemed—but seeing that I am dying, please take care of my two kids."

It was really hard for Madam Ai to speak; she felt an intense pain with every word that she spoke. But she kept speaking because she knew that if she didn't speak now, then her children might fall into danger. With Bai Meiyue taking care of her two children, she wouldn't have to worry about their safety.

Bai Meiyue pursed her lips, and her complexion was rather pale at the moment. Only now did she realise that Madam Ai had schemed against her.
