Apocalyptic Disasters: Carrying a bun and hoarding supplies-Chapter 753: He is Injured
Bai Meiyue looked at the half-burnt fish. She knew that these two women were not good at cooking, but what she never expected was that the two of them would not be able to roast a fish. She stared at the charred fish that no longer resembled the rich and fresh sea bass and raised her head to look at Meng Suisui and Shen Zhen, who were looking everywhere but at her.
Seeing this, Bai Meiyue pursed her lips and said, "Keep this aside; neither of us can eat this. We have limited resources to begin with; if either of us gets a bad stomach, then how are we going to survive this corpse wave?"
"Then what are we going to do?" Meng Suisui asked. She knew that there was no edible meat left on the fishbones, so there was no point in even suggesting that they should try to eat this burnt seabass. She turned to look at the steamed buns and said, "Maybe I can see if we can heat these buns for you." She and Shen Zhen had nothing against eating cold steamed buns, but given Bai Meiyue’s condition, could they let her eat cold steamed buns that had gone hard and a bit stale?
She didn’t know.
"There is no need," Bai Meiyue sighed before getting to her feet. "I will see what I can do."
She then trudged to the small room on the side where Meng Suisui and Shen Zhen were trying to make the sea bass and absolutely killed it. In every literal sense. As she walked out of the room, Meng Suisui turned to look at Shen Zhen and asked in a really low voice, "Can she really cook?"
Meng Suisui knew that Bai Meiyue was really skilled when it came to dealing with zombies and scum, but she had never once seen her cook. What if Bai Meiyue really couldn’t cook?
Shen Zhen was also worried about the same thing. She had seen Bai Meiyue doing a lot of things, but she had never, not once, seen her making anything in the kitchen. Could she really cook?
The two women were in a dilemma. Neither of them knew whether to stop Bai Meiyue or not.
Inside the small, makeshift kitchen, Bai Meiyue was staring at the stove in front of her with a frown on her face. She pursed her lips and finally pulled out the little badge that she had bartered with Nanny An. Sighing, she muttered to herself, "Well, now is the time to see whether this thing really works or not."
With little to no trust in the badge, Bai Meiyue placed it on her bosom and picked up the knife that was sitting on the side of the small counter. It wasn’t until she cleaned the scales off the fish that she realised what she had done. She looked down at the fish on the chopping board and muttered, "Well, it seems like it really does work."
A few minutes later, the scent of the steamed sea bass enveloped the entire tenth floor, and Bai Jixuan, who was keeping an eye on things, came sniffing. He looked around and bumped into Meng Suisui and Shen Zhen, who were peering outside the door, looking all furtive. He blinked his eyes and asked, "What’s going on? Who is cooking bass? I can smell it all over the floor." The scent was really good and tempting; if he didn’t know better, he would have thought that an imperial chef had descended from the mortal world to cook a feast for them.
But—
"It’s your sister..."
"Oh, so it’s my sister—IT’S MY SISTER?!" Bai Jixuan screeched, and his face turned pale at once. He grasped Bai Zhan’s arm and said to him, "Big brother, what is going on? Who gave this sinister idea to her? Is she trying to kill us all? Did Yueyue realise that there was no way we would be able to get out of this place, so she decided to end us all in one go?"
"Then you don’t need to eat." A cold voice came from behind, and Bai Jixuan jumped into the air. He looked at Bai Meiyue, who was standing behind him and glaring up at him and sheepishly smiled at her. He said to her, "I am sorry, Yueyue. I was just joking." Though Bai Jixuan was not someone who had a coarse tongue, he still doted on his sister. There was no way he was going to say anything that might hurt his dear sister. He smiled at her and softly said to her in a low voice, "Anyway, you are so talented. No matter what, even if you sent us two brothers to the hospital the first time when you cooked, I believe that you did a better job this time around."
Bai Meiyue snorted. She could see that even though her brother was saying all kinds of sweet words to her, he was simply cajoling her. She took the dish that she was holding in her hands inside the room and said to Meng Suisui and Shen Zhen, "Come inside; it is time for us to eat."
Meng Suisui and Shen Zhen glanced at one another. After hearing what Bai Jixuan said to them about Bai Meiyue’s cooking, neither of them wanted to try it lest they ended up getting sick but when they saw how Bai Meiyue was already setting up the eating space and was prepared to eat the steamed seabass, they gritted their teeth and rushed over. After all, if they don’t try it first and Bai Meiyue eats it and ends up falling sick, then how would they answer Lei Qian?
It was better to take the risk and save the life of their saviour.
With that thought in their heads, the two women rushed inside the room and sat down next to Bai Meiyue.
"It smells good. I cannot wait to try it."
"Yeah... you are a really good cook, Sister Yueyue. How can you make a seabass smell so good?"
Bai Meiyue: "..."
