Chapter 94: City A situation

Elena was ready to grill the barbecue, but Ethan stopped her, explaining that it would be tiring and the smoke could be overwhelming.

"Wife, just take a break. We’ll handle the grilling," he said as he set up the electric grill near the exhaust fan.

The others nodded in agreement, insisting that she relax while they took care of the cooking.

In truth, Elena wanted to use the stock barbecue she had brought a while ago—there was a lot of it—but the others disagreed, believing that cooking would help ease their tension about the raging typhoon outside.

Watching them busy with their tasks, Elena settled onto the sofa and observed the kids playing.

Little Mia was thrilled to have friends her age around and excitedly talked about her favorite princess cartoon that she had downloaded on the tablet.

Little Koby listened to her attentively. Although he sometimes struggled to connect with the cartoon Little Mia was discussing, he still nodded along, responding with enthusiasm even if he didn’t fully understand.

"Bwother Koby, this dwess looks amazing on me! Mom is going to buy me so many dwesses like this!" little Mia exclaimed, her eyes sparkling excitedly.

"Yeah, little Mia looks great in that pink dress," little Koby agreed, smiling at her enthusiasm.

"No, not that one! I mean this violet one! What awe you watching, Bwother Koby? I’m talking about the Pwincess Spawkle dwess, not the pink one that Pwincess Detective is weawing!" little Mia insisted, pointing to the other dress.

"I was wrong. All the dresses in the video look good on you, little Mia," little Koby said, nodding earnestly, acknowledging his earlier mistake.

Elena, listening to their adorable conversation, couldn’t help but smile. In just a few minutes, they had become best friends.

She realized that little Mia needed someone her age to talk to, especially now that she was in preschool and required help with learning.

Well, Angela could do that. She would ask her later.

Elena was now deeply concerned about learning materials. Although she had downloaded files and soft copies of some online books, she still planned to go to the library to store all the physical books there.

However, not right now; the typhoon was so strong that venturing out in this weather would be dangerous.

Those books were precious indeed, and she believed they would be valuable for future generations, but their safety was still her priority. So, the books will just have to wait.

While waiting for the food to be ready, Elena then browsed her phone for updates. She saw many people posting scenes from their own areas; the water was rising rapidly and was now entering their homes.

There was even a video of a person being swept away by the strong current.

The rescuers are now braving the raging typhoon to help people in low-lying areas and ensure that they are evacuated safely.

’Just like how my husband did in my previous life.’

In her past life, many people needed help, prompting the government to deploy rescuers. However, the continuous rain made it overwhelming for them to respond effectively.

When the typhoon lasted for months, the situation worsened, and the government could no longer fulfill its duties, leaving many people feeling hopeless.

This is where the weak become the targets, and the survival of the fittest begins. Elena felt a chill run down her back as memories of those dark days and the people’s desperation flooded her.

Elena continued browsing videos and noticed that some people had visited the supermarket to share the situation on their social media accounts.

A live video reported that essential foods were still plentiful on the shelves as if people had only bought a few items, believing the typhoon would pass without causing significant damage.

Elena couldn’t help but raise her eyebrows. The military’s warning was clear: this typhoon was severe, and people needed to hoard essential foods.

Apart from that, she saw people stocking essential foods in their homes. The only problem was that they were blatantly displaying their supplies, inviting others to visit their households if they were without food.

’Are they inviting wolves into their homes?’

She also saw people in evacuation centers living in tents because the earthquake had damaged their homes. With the typhoon continuing, they lamented the government’s slow response—they needed a higher place to stay.

As the water rose, threatening to flood the center, they protested and urged the government to take action.

People’s reactions to the typhoon varied, but those who were prepared would definitely have an advantage in this disaster. The only concern was whether they could effectively protect themselves

Seeing his wife focused on her phone, Ethan quickly sat beside her and asked, "Wife, what are you watching?"

"I’m watching updates on the typhoon. Some areas are now submerged by floods, and others are hoarding essentials," Elena replied, frowning. freewёbnoνel.com

Ethan nodded upon hearing the situation.

"What about the building struck by the lightning?"

"Wait, let me check," Elena replied.

She was about to type ’lightning strike’ and search for it on social media when she saw a post that intrigued her.

In the post, Vivian shared a video about the tornado in City B, followed by a live stream discussing her experiences.

What confused Elena was how Vivian returned to City A.

’Tsk. She’s still alive!’

As Elena watched the video, the focus shifted to her. Vivian ranted on social media, expressing her anger over Elena’s alleged attempt to kill her in City B. Now, she was acting pitifully, crying to gain sympathy from her fans.

Well, it worked; many people consoled her, and some even offered her advice. Afterward, the cursing began again. She emphasized that Elena was evil and that she would burn in hell.

’Heh, she even tagged me with my old social media account and called me evil, hahaha. I might not be able to kill you now, but I can certainly torture you the next time we meet. Let’s see how you beg.’

Vivian kept rambling and had already filed a police report.

As Elena continued to watch the live video, she saw Nerisa consoling Vivian. She also claimed that Elena had stolen her purse at the hotel and demanded its return.

Elena couldn’t help but sneer. The nerve of this woman, Nerisa, twisting lies into facts was astounding; her acting made it all seem so believable.

The worst part was that they had posted a picture of her not-so-beautiful pose, likely edited to make her look ugly.

’Can they do better?’

At the end of the video, they threatened Elena, saying she would have to eat shit to earn their forgiveness, or they would put her in jail.

’Nonsense. How did Nerisa get from coastal road of City C to City A? Well, who cares? A bunch of bit*hes. This is better. You should stick together so that when I find you later, it will be easy for me to take my revenge.’

Ethan was intrigued by his wife’s changing expressions as she watched a video on her phone—frowning, sneering, and then mocking.

"Wife? What are you watching this time?" Ethan asked, kissing her cheek softly.

"Nothing, just that Vivian and Nerisa are back in City A. What confuses me is how they arrived so easily," Elena replied as she typed up the news about the lightning strike.

Ethan’s brows knitted together; he was also puzzled by how they had managed to get here.

"Let them be. If they try to disturb our peace, we’ll eliminate them," he said coldly.

"Husband, you’re the best," Elena whispered as she heard his caring and serious tone.

She then added, "Here’s the video of the situation at the struck building."

They both watched as the reporter bravely covered the situation at the building. Intrigued by the reporter’s words, everyone in the room crowded around the sofa, prompting Elena to turn on the TV to watch the video widely.

According to the report, the force was so tremendous that it damaged half of the building. The impact cracked the walls and shattered the windows.

As the raging typhoon continued, rain poured into the building, making it uninhabitable for the residents.

Rescuers were doing their best to evacuate the people, but unfortunately, four families lost their lives on the spot; their unit was the one severely struck by lightning.

"The strong winds and poor visibility made it difficult to navigate the area. In addition, the rising water level hindered cars from entering," the reporter added."

A similar situation occurred at the other building that was struck by lightning; fortunately, no one was living there, as it had been damaged in a recent earthquake

The video shows the building’s structure before and after the incident, and it even trended on social media. Many people expressed their support and donated food and money to the victims.

As they watched the video of the devastated surroundings, the reality of the disaster began to sink in for everyone in the room.

It was here, and they had to get used to it.
