Arcane: The Gods Want Me to Pick a Route-Chapter 130: Who Would Fire a Gun at a Banquet?
The next morning, Logan got up early and made breakfast.
When they heard Logan’s voice, Isha and Jinx came out at the same time, both yawning, and headed straight into the shower.
Logan didn’t rush them—he just waited for them to finish getting ready.
Three minutes later, Jinx and Isha had brushed their teeth and washed their faces. They sat at the table, lowered their heads, and started eating the breakfast Logan had made.
After cutting her hair short, Jinx’s morning routine had gotten noticeably faster. Before, even washing her face meant tying up her hair and combing it out first. Now, with short hair, she just slipped on a headband, showed off her clean little face, and splashed water on with both hands.
"You’re going to see Vi later?" Logan asked.
"Yeah. That cop actually knows makeup, and she really understands banquet rules. I’m gonna have her help me figure things out." Jinx spoke around a mouthful of a breakfast roll, chewing noisily.
Spring was creeping into Zaun, and it wasn’t so cold anymore. So she was wearing nothing but an oversized T-shirt. Her long, pale legs stretched out from under the hem as she sat cross-legged on the chair, her bare foot bouncing lightly.
The way she ate was completely unrefined—yet somehow ridiculously cute.
Lively. Bright. Full of motion.
That was the part of her Logan was hopelessly addicted to.
"What?" Jinx noticed him staring and held out the half-eaten pastry. "Hungry?"
Logan opened his mouth and took a big bite.
"My cooking is insanely good," he said smugly.
What—was he bothered because she’d already bitten it?
Of course not.
Over the past few days, Logan and Jinx had been sneaking around Isha and practicing kissing whenever they could.
And once they got good at it, the two of them started playing that little private game of catching each other’s tongue.
So what was a shared bite of breakfast supposed to be?
Jinx nodded hard. "What about you?"
"I’ll go ask Jayce to help me pick something," Logan said after thinking a moment.
Like he didn’t care about how he looked.
"Jinx, I guess we’ll only see each other at the banquet."
Then he added, "And I’ll probably get there before you. Jayce’s place is close."
Jinx hummed, then lifted a brow. "Logan—you’re not going to look at other women, right?"
"Of course not. I promise you," Logan said instantly.
Jinx nodded happily, then turned to Isha.
Isha was frowning, wearing that little expression that said, Ugh. You two are unbelievable.
Jinx reached over and pinched her cheek. "You’re going too tonight."
Isha blinked, confused.
A grown-ups’ banquet—what was she supposed to do there?
But clearly... Jinx wasn’t giving her a chance to argue.
That afternoon, Logan went to Jayce’s estate. He followed the butler into the luxurious residence, and Jayce came to greet him—hair perfectly groomed, formalwear crisp, with a black-rose boutonniere pinned at his collar.
"Come on in. But, Logan—why would you come to me for advice?" Jayce asked.
"Out of everyone I know, you’re the one I’m closest to," Logan said, following him inside.
Jayce laughed. "Then I have to tell you—you picked the wrong guy. This outfit? Someone else matched it for me. I’m a grown man. How would I know any of this? Ask me about tech, machinery, how to forge a hammer—I can teach you plenty. But grooming, outfits, cologne... I can’t do that."
Logan immediately turned to leave.
Jayce grabbed his arm, exasperated. "Why are you in such a hurry? I can’t—but someone can."
"Come on. Mel said she’ll help you get dressed. And she’s got a few things she wants to talk to you about."
"Hm?" Logan looked at Jayce, suddenly suspicious.
Jayce coughed. "I just... mentioned you and Jinx, that’s all. And she said she wanted to talk to you. It’s nothing big."
Logan gave him a skeptical look, but he still followed Jayce into the room.
Inside was a massive walk-in wardrobe. Men’s and women’s clothing hung in neat rows. Designer bags. Shoes. Watches. All kinds of delicate, expensive accessories.
Logan’s eyes practically got dazzled. Honestly... Logan’s entire home might not have been as big as Jayce’s closet.
Mel stood at the center. When she saw Logan, she smiled.
She looked stunning today—an elegant gown in the same color palette as Jayce’s, gold adornments woven into her hair. She spoke with graceful politeness. "This way, Councilor Logan."
Logan nodded.
Mel guided him to the mirror. Jayce stood off to the side, listening as Mel issued instructions.
"Jayce, your clothes are all too large for Councilor Logan. Go open the packages of the outfits I had brought in."
Jayce did as told. A short while later he returned, arms full of clothing.
Logan glanced over them—silk, fine fabric, all clearly top-tier.
Mel began matching pieces for Logan. Before long, the Logan in the mirror looked like a different person.
Once he changed into a fitted suit, his frame finally showed properly. Logan wasn’t especially tall, but his limbs were long and his waistline was lean. A pair of tailored dress pants and a slim shirt made him look less thin and fragile.
Mel studied him, then shook her head.
"Black doesn’t suit you, Councilor Logan. You’re simply too pale," Mel said, holding up two other options. "Normally, black highlights the clarity of fair skin. But you’re fair to the point that black makes you look older—heavier, more restrained. I recommend trying this light gray set instead."
"It’ll balance you out. It should look much better."
Logan took the clothes. Jayce blinked at the side like he’d never thought of it that way.
Logan stepped into the changing area and switched outfits.
When he came back out, Mel nodded with satisfaction.
Jayce grinned and smoothed his neatly trimmed beard. "Damn. Handsome, Logan. Tonight, we’re definitely going to be the two best-looking guys at the banquet."
"And we’ll add this watch, and this collar detail..."
Mel continued adjusting the finishing touches. Then she said, "Oh—Councilor Logan. There might be a small... incident tonight."
"What do you mean?" Logan asked.
"It’s not a big deal," Mel said, smiling. "It’s just that a lot of Piltover’s noble young women will likely approach you tonight."
"In Zaun, everyone knows you and Jinx are together. But in Piltover, many people don’t know. I’ve heard rumors, but I didn’t take them too seriously—she looks more like your younger sister."
"And even if they do know, many of them will ignore it. Because your situation right now... is very similar to what Jayce’s was back then. Your status is elevated. You’re young and accomplished. And you’re handsome..."
Logan understood what she was implying—and he panicked.
Was she joking?
If Jinx found out that Piltover noble girls were trying to get close to him—and worse, doing it even after they knew he and Jinx were together—Logan didn’t even want to imagine what Jinx would do.
That wasn’t networking. That was basically pimping him out.
Political marriage games?
Don’t make him laugh.
If Jinx didn’t grab those women by the hair, slap them, and kick them in the stomach, it would only be because she hadn’t eaten enough that morning.
"This is ’not a big deal’?" Logan stared. "Jayce, you think this is nothing?"
"Mel, I’m serious. If you don’t want a death at tonight’s banquet—if you don’t want to see Jinx pull out a gun and start shooting—then keep them away from me."
"She wouldn’t... would she?" Mel clicked her tongue, unable to picture it. A woman who would shoot someone at a banquet just because her escort got touched—
Who shoots at a banquet like that? What kind of decent woman does that?
Jayce thought for a moment, then said flatly, "I think Logan’s telling the truth. That is absolutely something she’d do. In her world, there is no such thing as ’rules.’ She only listens to what she wants to hear and only acknowledges the people she likes. Everyone else may as well be invisible."
"So when you and Councilor Kiramman assumed Jinx had no power and no status and wasn’t worthy of Logan—Mel, I can only say you overthought it."
"Do you know this? Jinx has two fathers in Zaun. One is Silco, the other is Vander. She’s never called them ’Dad’ in front of others, but they both treat her as their daughter. And her sister works in Zaun’s Enforcer Department as its chief."
"More than that—Logan is Zaun’s leader. She’s Zaun’s First Lady. Back then, when you, Councilor Kiramman, and the Ferros family privately discussed sending women from your houses to get close to Logan to push a marriage alliance and ’secure’ the Twin Cities’ partnership... I honestly thought it was stupid."
"Then why didn’t you say that at the time?!" Mel snapped, glaring at Jayce.
"Because you wouldn’t let me talk!" Jayce shot back, equally wronged.
"Fine—Logan, you pick which watch you like and which cravat you prefer. Jayce, help him decide. I have something to handle. Sorry." 𝗳𝚛𝚎𝚎𝘄𝕖𝕓𝕟𝕠𝚟𝚎𝕝.𝗰𝕠𝐦
Mel suddenly looked genuinely anxious.
In Piltover’s records, Jinx was nothing but a criminal—a madwoman, a dangerous extremist.
After the alliance, Piltover’s councilors did know Jinx and Logan were together, but in a politician’s and merchant’s eyes, "together" didn’t necessarily mean anything.
Because they believed Logan deserved "better."
Compared to an adorable but unpredictable woman, wouldn’t a well-educated, well-mannered, wealthy, beautiful Piltover noblewoman be more suitable?
But now—
Jinx wasn’t some ordinary "dangerous person."
Her status might actually be among the highest in Zaun.
And what did it even mean that she had two fathers?
Mel’s head started to ache.
She needed to go find Councilor Kiramman immediately and make this crystal clear. If those noble girls kept swarming Logan and something went wrong, it would be a disaster.
This was the first banquet jointly held by the Twin Cities.
Thinking that, Mel grabbed her skirt and moved fast—completely ungraceful now—her heels clicking rapidly as she hurried out.
"You knew all of that already?" Logan asked, looking at Jayce.
"Yes," Jayce said with a shrug and a grin. "But I didn’t feel like dealing with it. I wanted to watch those nobles get humiliated, so I didn’t tell Mel ahead of time."
Jayce had lived in Zaun for a long time. Of course he knew Jinx’s standing there. And by not telling Mel and Kiramman, he’d clearly been planning to enjoy the show.
Logan was speechless... but then he laughed anyway.
"Honestly, I would enjoy seeing Jinx get jealous over me—just imagining it gives me a secret thrill," Logan admitted. "But... it’s better if it doesn’t happen."
"Other women get jealous and pout. She gets jealous and shoots people."
"My little psycho isn’t that obedient," Logan said, adjusting the collar detail and standing up. "Jayce—next time, don’t play it that big."
Jayce nodded. "Just this once. And didn’t I at least tell Mel afterward about you and her?"
With that, Jayce stepped up, slung an arm over Logan’s shoulder, and led him outside, smiling broadly.
"Alright, Logan. Time to head to the banquet."
"Before those annoying people show up, let’s get there early and have a couple drinks."
