Ascension of Chaos-Chapter 160 - B2 | 21
Ashley
I have to wonder what I was so nervous about before, considering how quickly that guy died. He didn't even put up a fight after all. And those strange symbols and chains that appeared didn't even do anything.
Overall, the battle was so anticlimactic that it wasn't even a battle.
That thought has me sighing as I walk in the direction of the central island, only jumping into the air and flying when I reach the edge of the island I'm on. Then I proceed to look at the Skill Tree I got from the Successor of Sin. The only real thing that matters about that battle.
{You have been granted 10 Skill Points for killing a user within the System Event.}
{You have slain a being while Assimilate is active. You have now unlocked the Skill Tree: The Glorious Devourer's Wrath}
{You have unlocked a new Skill Tree, therefore the root skill of the Skill Tree, Glorious Devourer's Resistance, is now unlocked for your usage.}
{Congratulations, you have now reached level 204. Your PHY and MEN have increased by 1 point, and your MAG by 2 points. Please choose where you wish your 1 Free Point to be allocated.}
{Congratulations, you have now reached level 205. Your PHY and MEN have increased by 1 point, and your MAG by 2 points. Please choose where you wish your 1 Free Point to be allocated.}
…
{Congratulations, you have now reached level 207. Your PHY and MEN have increased by 1 point, and your MAG by 2 points. Please choose where you wish your 1 Free Point to be allocated.}
{You have been granted 10 Points for killing a user within the System Event.}
Hmm. His Skill Tree certainly has a unique name, that's for sure.
I go ahead and check the skill's description, only to frown a little at the sight of it.
{Glorious Devourer's Resistance – This skill grants the user partial resistance to the Sins of Pride, Gluttony, and Wrath.}
Okay then. Guess his Skill Tree must have been why he was able to get the Symbols of those three. Which are what I'm pretty sure he tried using against me.
Or at least, two of the three.
I didn't exactly get the chance to see what they did.
Not that it really matters though.
After reading the root skill's description, I go ahead and check out the other skills in the Skill Tree. All while chugging a couple of my own homemade potions for Chaos Energy, along with a couple potions Blake gave me and that I bought myself for regular mana.
Unfortunately though, these System Events have a maximum number of potions you can use in the event, so I can't restore my mana all the way. But I restored about two thirds of it, and I restored all of my Chaos Energy. Mostly because my Chaos Energy potions are just better than most of the mana potions I can afford or that Blake can make.
No offence to Blake.
Anyways, looking at the Skill Tree easily confirms that the Skill Tree itself is centered around those three Sins. Pride, Wrath, and Gluttony. This is obvious enough in that there are only three branches leaving the root skill. And each branch starts with the next skill being a perfect or high-stage Sin mana manipulation skill.
This novel's true home is a different platform. Support the author by finding it there.
The left one is the High-Stage Gluttony Mana Manipulation skill. The center one is the Perfect Pride Mana Manipulation skill. And the right one is the High-Stage Wrath Mana Manipulation skill.
So all in all, this is a rather useful Skill Tree for me. Even disregarding the other skills in it.
Just having three more rather high ranked mana manipulation skills, with one of them being a perfect one, is really helpful.
Also, these skills probably explain why he was a Successor of Sin in the first place.
"That snake Erebos always immediately makes anyone he finds with a perfect Sin mana manipulation skill into a Successor right away so that he can turn them into a tool," Chaos suddenly says, making me frown a little at the brutality of that. Not to mention how vastly different he is from Chaos. "We've never seen eye to eye because despite his unstable mentality, he is completely obsessed with control. And he has no control when it comes to me because of Unchained negating all of his beloved Symbols of Sin."
Yeah, that makes sense.
Also, the fact that you call him 'that snake' says more than enough about how you think of him.
"Well, he technically is a snake," Chaos says, half sounding like he's mocking him and half being serious. "Erebos's true form is that of a hydra. A seven headed hydra to be exact."
Huh. Interesting.
I actually didn't know that.
"Not many people do," Chaos says as I continue flying towards the central island. The place where the boss of this little event should be appearing any minute now. Probably. "None of Erebos's Successors have ever received any additional heads from his blood. And when Erebos does make any appearances, he does it through his clones by splitting off one of his heads and using it as a clone."
For someone called the Primordial of Sin he certainly is rather orderly and careful, isn't he?
"Remember that we became Primordials through our power and claiming the titles ourselves," Chaos explains as I finally reach the island and land on the edge of it. "We weren't born for our domains. We claimed them."
I guess that makes sense. You share a lot of similarities with your domains, but they aren't all you are.
Actually, that explains a lot. Especially about you.
After all, there are several things that aren't chaotic about you. Like how much you care about me, how your true humanoid appearance is just one look, and how you're a massive raven. Which doesn't feel all that chaotic to me.
A few seconds pass as I walk along the edge of the island, completely ignoring the other hunters staring at me from the other islands. But it takes Chaos a bit longer than normal to respond this time.
"Who ever said I only had one true humanoid appearance?" Chaos asks, sounding rather amused.
That gives me pause as I stop walking and tilt my head upwards.
Wait a second, so you're telling me that the form I've seen you in numerous times now isn't your only humanoid form?
"Yep," he says without hesitation this time. "Now you're getting it. While we aren't exact embodiments of our domains in mind, we are in body." Then a female voice suddenly echoes in my head speaking just like how Chaos speaks. "And why would the embodiment of chaos be limited to a single size, shape, and even gender in their physical form?"
My jaw drops open in shock.
His voice returns to his usual male voice again when he continues, "I just tend to stick to the humanoid form and gender I had before claiming the domain and title of Chaos since it feels natural for me."
Huh.
This is… unexpected.
Very unexpected.
So technically you have both a male and a female form?
"Yes, but the last time I took on any female humanoid form was thousands of years ago," Chaos answers with what feels like a shrug despite me not being able to see him right now.
I guess that's why no one on the System Forums knows about this.
"Oh, there are people who know," Chaos says, surprising me again. "It's just in the restricted posts and sections about the Primordials that you don't have access to yet."
Right. I forgot about those.

"There are probably some mentions of Erebos's hydra form in those sections as well, regardless of how much he tries to hide his form," Chaos adds with a hint of amusement in his voice that makes me feel like he may have something to do with that.
Which wouldn't surprise me in the least.
Wait a second, you keep mentioning 'claiming the domain and title of primordial'. Does that mean it's not just some title you Primordials made up or something?
"That, little Ashy, is a topic for another time," Chaos says while using a nickname I've never heard him use before. And before I can ask any more on that topic, thunder begins to rumble across the map, making me look up at the sky.
Just to find a massive tornado forming with lightning and thunder all around it, and a massive thunderstorm at the top of the tornado.
My eyes narrow at a silhouette I see within the tornado.
Guess I found the boss.
