Ashen Dragon-Chapter 584 - 38 Melee_2
Chapter 584: Chapter 38 Melee_2
Chapter 584 -38 Melee_2
But for mortals, these Bazut Demons forming the officer ranks were an absolute nightmare, harbingers of death and nightmarish dreams.
One should know that this was just the most ordinary infantry battalion of the Empire. Aside from their battalion chief who carried the Dragon Vein, everyone else was a plain mortal who had only been through military training.
Adrowell had experienced over a dozen demon invasions. The mortal armies of those nations would almost instantly collapse upon facing demons of this caliber, utterly devoid of any will to fight back.
With merely a gesture, these Bazut Demons could claim the lives of mortals, slaughtering armies of a thousand was nothing more than a daily routine for them.
And yet, this army had managed to contend with demons using their mortal bodies, not just relying on superior weapons but also on their indomitable will.
As he pondered, Adrowell suddenly heard the voice of Jennies from behind him.
“Adrowell… have you noticed that the scale of this invasion seems abnormal?”
Adrowell turned around to see his cousin looking gravely towards the horizon; he quickly followed her gaze.
At the end of the battlefield, amidst the undulating mountains, thousands of Abyssal Drakes waved their broken wings, covering the distant sky.
And on the ground, Giant Bull Demons, Demon Hunting Spiders, Abyssal Giants, and other massive abyssal creatures took strides that shook the earth. Moreover, millions of low-tier Demon Bees swarmed in like a surging tide, flooding towards the Empire’s lines.
Adrowell widened his eyes in shock, astonishment shining through his pale blue pupils.
“The cost of cross-plane teleportation is quite high. In theory, not even an Abyssal Lord could send demons of this magnitude to the Prime Material Plane.
Unless…”
Jennies and Adrowell said in unison with a heavy voice, “This Abyssal Lord has descended onto the Material Plane in its true form.”
In the sky concealed by Abyssal Drakes, Kwase Demons, and Frosthorns, dense black fog surged forth, and the heavens seemed to split open with a massive crack.
“Jennies, go quickly and inform the Elders of our clan! Summon allies from all lands!
This Abyssal invasion far exceeds our expectations. This is no longer just an invasion of the Ashen Empire; this is likely a long-plotted inter-dimensional war aiming to sweep across the Material Plane!”
Adrowell shouted and then, accompanied by a dozen adult Silver Dragons, threw himself into the frontlines, his draconic face filled with urgency and gravity.
If the Abyssal Lord’s true form were to occupy the Ashen Empire, the consequences were unimaginable!
…
“Boom!”
“Boom! Boom!”
The roar of cannon fire erupted, igniting explosive blasts amidst the dense demon crowd. Countless bullets, arrows, and spells poured out like a torrential rain.
Inside the Empire’s defensive line, it was exceptionally busy. Messengers shuttled through the trenches, their calls intermingled with the urgent shouts of officers.
“Quick! Continue the barrage! We must not let up!”
“Cassius above…”
“Position 26 has been overrun!”
Still, none of this could halt the demons’ assault.
In the distance amongst the tide of demons, spiders as large as elephants stood on their four hind legs. Their eyes flickered with a strange glow, and their fanged maw drooled with viscous poison.
—Those were Demon Hunting Spiders, massive arachnid monsters cultivated from the flesh and blood of demons.
Not all Constructed Creatures were made of inanimate stone, wood, metal, or dead flesh.
In the dark corners of the great beyond, some powerful Demon Lords were adept in the art of shaping the flesh of the denizens of the Abyss into grotesque works of ‘art.’
They had no life, no emotions, no will to resist—and the hideous Demon Hunting Spiders were among the most infamous of such creations.
Demon Lords used the Demon Hunting Spiders to seek out those who dared betray them or escaped their enslavement and to keep the lower-tier demons in check.
For the Abyssal Lords, the Demon Hunting Spiders were prized possessions, often used in the endless strife within the Abyss.
And now, there were no less than a hundred Demon Hunting Spiders on the battlefield!
These massive spider beasts, like moving fortresses, delivered overwhelming blows to the Empire’s defensive lines.
Within the Empire’s positions, Olivia, transformed into a silver-haired girl, raised her Magic Wand, closed her eyes, and chanted in Draconic.
“Dragon Star Cluster (Draconic)!”
“Boom!”
Suddenly, meteors streaked across the sky, falling amidst the demon horde.
In an instant, numerous beams of light shot forth from the meteorites, purifying hundreds of demons with Radiance, black smoke rising from their bodies as they turned into charred husks.
She opened her eyes and glanced at the massive spiders rapidly moving in the distance, especially their flickering compound eyes, and hurriedly warned, “Quick, get out of the way, it’s a Demon Hunting Spider!”
Olivia wanted to cast Protective Magic, but it was already too late.
“Swish—”
A strange glow flickered from the eyes of that Demon Hunting Spider, and several deep grey beams shot out from them.
The hundreds of Imperial Soldiers that the beams swept across all paused in the exact stance they were in, frozen in place.
Some were firing their guns, others were shouting, and yet others were moving hurriedly, but their bodies had all turned into stone sculptures!
Those were petrification rays!
Olivia’s brain worked rapidly as she quickly constructed the Spell Prototype for “Petrification Removal.”
However, a Fire Ray scorching with flames shot out from another Demon Hunting Spider’s eyes, sweeping directly over a large number of petrified soldiers.
“No…”
Olivia shook her head in sorrow, watching helplessly as soldiers who had just been valiantly fighting were reduced to piles of rubble in an instant.
And she was powerless to help.
“I will make them pay…”
Olivia bit her silver teeth and raised her Magic Wand again, unleashing the mightiest “Crown of Stars” she commanded.
“Quick! Bomb those spider monsters! We must not let them release the rays!”
“Requesting firepower support, requesting firepower support!”
The Empire’s commanders had also recognized the terrifying aspect of these Demon Hunting Spiders.
They called for artillery support from the rear and the Wyvern Knights hovering in the sky, ready to bomb, constantly targeting them with focused firepower.
“Boom!”
“Boom! Boom!”
Shell after shell fell and exploded amongst the ranks of the demons, yet not a single Demon Hunting Spider was killed.
These massive spider monsters moved swiftly across the ground on their eight legs, making them very difficult to hit.
They were made of the toughest flesh and carapace the demons had to offer, naturally resistant to flames, and apart from a direct hit, ordinary explosions were unlikely to deal effective damage to them.
“Boom!”
Once again, Fire Rays shot out from the eyes of the Demon Hunting Spiders, piercing the thick city walls, and blowing up all the Imperial Soldiers behind them.
The Demon Legion’s onslaught intensified beneath the rush of the Demon Hunting Spiders, and some of the Empire’s defenses had been completely breached.
Far from the battlefield, Adrowell was leading a group of Silver Dragons toward the scene, once again astonished at the sight before him.
“How can there be so many Demon Hunting Spiders…”
“This is indeed highly unusual.”
Jenny furrowed her brows, flapped her wings, and flew towards the most intense part of the battle.
Adrowell said, “Jenny, go remind Marshal Dolores that it’s time for those blue-skinned dragons to join the fight. It’s the only way those dirty, greedy Blue Dragons will be of any use.
On our own, we can’t stop so many Demon Hunting Spiders.”
It should be noted that the last time Demon Hunting Spiders appeared on the Prime Material Plane was fifty years ago when they chose the Cassandra Region of Holy Fardel as their target, and Adrowell had taken part in that battle.
At that time, the Holy Fardel Empire was at the height of its glory, and had no fear of these demons.
Relying on the powerful Steel Golem army, they withstood the onslaught of the Demon Hunting Spiders, and later, the Divine Power of the Angel Divine Descendant destroyed these twisted spiders.
But the Ashen Empire, being a nascent nation, lacked the deep magical heritage of Holy Fardel, making it difficult to produce national treasures like Steel Golems.
And even though the Empire’s army was powerful, the Silver Dragons saw little hope of withstanding the Demon Hunting Spider legion.
Jenny soon received a reply, but her tone was somewhat surprised.
“Marshal Dolores says…
He’s already aware, and a counterattack is imminent.”
“Roar—”
The sounds of engines running, the sharp whistles, and billowing steam rose.
