Awakening: I Became a Legendary Spirit Summoner-Chapter 17 - : The Novice Trial’s Boss, Frostfang Wolf
Chapter 17: Chapter 17: The Novice Trial's Boss, Frostfang Wolf
Karl, after reaching level 10, started his ascent to the top of the mountain.
His spirits handled most of the dangers along the way, but he knew better than to get careless.
Right now, his [Spirit Cemetery] was empty, which meant the [Spectral Blade] in his hand was his main weapon alongside his [Spirit Flames].
He glanced at the blade in his hand.
[7/10 strikes left.]
He needed to finish the fight with the boss within these seven strikes or rely on his summons to take it down.
It was the safest plan he had.
After about 15 minutes of climbing, Karl finally reached the summit.
The area stretched wide, shrouded in mist and frost, and it gave off a sense of foreboding.
As he stepped into the final zone, a notification appeared.
Ding!
[You have entered the Mountain of Death's final zone.]
[Fight initiated.]
Before Karl could take another step, a massive shadow leaped at him from behind, nearly silent but filled with deadly intent.
A giant white wolf, crackling with frost energy, lunged out of nowhere, its icy-blue eyes locked on Karl.
Karl reacted quickly, raising his spectral blade to block its claws twice.
Clang!
The force of the impact sent him sliding back, but he managed to hold his ground.
[5/10 strikes left.]
The wolf snarled, its towering form standing at least four meters tall.
Saliva dripped from its sharp fangs as frost seemed to radiate off its fur.
Karl inspected the beast's status window with a calm expression.
[Frostfang, the White Wolf (Boss Monster)]
[Level: 10]
[Strength - 50]
[Stamina - 45]
[Agility - 50]
[Mana - 40]
The wolf's stats were higher than Karl's, but he didn't flinch.

He kept his expression calm, his focus entirely on the beast before him.
'Let's go,' Karl commanded mentally.
Fwish! Fwish!
All 14 of his spirits emerged, each dashing forward to engage the boss.
[Summon Cemetery: 14/50]
[Summons: Frenzied Rabbit, Demonized Bear, Alpha Dire Wolf, Thorned Vine Beast, Alpha Whip Wolf, Alpha Dire Bear, Small Whip Tree, Nature Wolf, Dire Fox, x2 Shadow Golem, x2 Stonefang Ape, Rock Hound]
The Shadow Golems and Stonefang Apes took the frontlines, their heavy bodies acting as tanks to hold off Frostfang's overwhelming strength.
The Rock Hound darted around like an assassin, aiming for the wolf's blind spots.
The others unleashed their abilities, the Thorned Vine Beast binding Frostfang with roots while the Alpha Dire Wolf howled.
For a moment, it seemed like Karl's summons were gaining the upper hand.
But Frostfang wasn't an ordinary monster.
The wolf opened its mouth wide, a frosty glow building deep within.
Whoooosh!
A wave of icy mist erupted from the boss, its [Frost Breath] blanketing the area.
The attack instantly froze two of Karl's summons: the Small Whip Tree and the Alpha Dire Bear, shattering them into pieces.
The others took heavy damage, their movements slowing as frost clung to their forms.
Karl clenched his jaw.
Two down.
Frostfang didn't stop there.
With incredible speed, it lunged forward, its massive claws slashing through one of the Shadow Golems.
The creature crumbled to dust under the attack.
Another swipe took out a Stonefang Ape, leaving Karl with only 10 spirits left.
Despite the losses, Karl remained composed.
He used his [Spectral Blade] to deflect the wolf's claws several times, the glowing weapon parrying Frostfang's deadly strikes.
[4/10 strikes left.]
[3/10 strikes left.]
[2/10 strikes left.]
The fight dragged on, with Karl's summons continuing to chip away at the boss's health.
Frostfang, however, refused to go down easily.
Its frost-coated fur made it hard to deal damage, and its agility allowed it to dodge many attacks.
Karl finally decided to step in himself.
Dodging an incoming swipe from the wolf, he dashed forward with his blade glowing ominously.
He poured every ounce of focus into his next attack.
Slash!
The [Spectral Blade] struck true, slicing through Frostfang's neck in a clean, powerful motion.
The massive wolf let out a final, pained howl before collapsing to the ground, its icy-blue eyes dimming.
Ding!
[You have slain Frostfang, the White Wolf.]
Karl stood there silently, his expression neutral as he watched the boss fade away.
This resulted in his experience bar directly shooting up to 40%.
And also...
[You have acquired the "Frost Wolf Robe" (Uncommon).]
[You have acquired the "Frost Wolf Core."]
Karl raised an eyebrow at the loot, his gaze shifting to the items in his inventory.
The [Frost Wolf Core] was a basic item, nothing special.
It could be sold in the market for about 200 coins.
The real prize was the robe.
[Frost Wolf Robe: Uncommon-level armor. Mana +5, Stamina +3. Can be worn at level 10.]
The robe was made from Frostfang's white fur, its texture soft yet sturdy.
Icy-blue patterns ran along its surface, giving it a sleek and elegant appearance.
Without hesitation, Karl equipped it.
The robe fit snugly, its cold aura almost refreshing.
"Not bad," he muttered to himself, feeling slightly more prepared for what lay ahead.
After collecting his loot, Karl turned his attention back to the area.
On top of the corpse of the boss stood a single shimmering white orb.
It looked different from the others, and also was slightly bigger.
'It seems the stronger the monster is, the more powerful its spirit will be.'
He extended his arm forward and touched the spirit of the [Frostfang Wolf], feeling a chill go down his spine.
[Spirit Cemetery: 4/50]
It only counted as one, but Karl was confident that his next summon would be powerful.
But the fight was over, which meant it was time to leave.
A notification appeared before him.
Ding!
[You have completed the Novice Trial in second place.]
[You have been rewarded a "Novice Skill Scroll"]
This was the second skill awakeners usually get after the one they received at level 3.
It came in the form of a scroll that they could summon in their hands.
But for now, Karl didn't use it.
[Do you want to go outside or continue to the first floor?]
"I'll go back for now."
A blinding light surrounded Karl, lifting him off the ground.
He glanced up as his body began to rise, the light carrying him away from the mountaintop.
His expression remained calm, though his mind was already focused on what was next.
